The error happens AFAIK only after boot, and only sometimes, so it can be workarounded simply by rebooting. It appeared first in 13.2 (after the main functionality had started to work well). Utilizing dhclient, it will just beat the thing as long as it takes to make= it behave - so now it fixes itself: Jul 24 12:03:40 cora kernel: [17] Starting dhclient. If you have gdb from ports (packages) installed it will also create a crash= info which is helpful. There's a chapter in the handbook (though I have not read it much recently myself): https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/developers-handbook/kerneldebug/ In case you are able to reproduce it you may consider setting up an bhyve environment with passthru for the ath device to not panic your base system. Help can be found to set this up (I should really write that up fir wireless debugging). --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Thu Jul 25 18:46:30 2024 X-Original-To: wireless@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4WVKbq2WDnz5R40f for ; Thu, 25 Jul 2024 18:46:31 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R11" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4WVKbq0vBkz579f for ; Thu, 25 Jul 2024 18:46:31 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1721933191; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=lB7lcCS/Y6kpAFBJiUYm7aZjXy32NtlSYypGsgnMV8i8u/LdM837chO7yYVatYw7ZMg4Cr RT7TXFgoFDnAVmllPHSJ3jopCB9qOXyE1bmkMhxduoxGugE04X3vGEQnFYmQM3bgkLYn2Q LvnIZnjoN+M8JcMHeQf1xKltqnPE5ZG2bEXFRDsWUs2QXjHZ7uFuVpfgLSpY5IZzi/ZBoI giDY7fMEOyX33+CbB9PH/mYlQOrLWpz1dpnS7Lrbc5GsDLVkKn/cQ2HwZZO6cCQ9bXnvhZ 8f9ELPXEFJso3lSEz3p9VQ9c6JdKksYPDnpGuvOMJ1WZwNqU3LZEtWUDTJqxIw== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1721933191; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=1w1lL4gA4XRRb27HUy44J+b+4CvuKa7LTyT/gkhs1SA=; b=Qg5jPtppn1g4k2lQm2A4FMKKqTTKWAxW3lisN2Kj2o2YsmLBBjsQs+MALa9CWBQKB1pFZI PzUjtk389Ls51If0Y+2KTLWSeNf+SaX8eiTDs8uqrAbrK/9dLSSggmZvQGaLs3iC1g+Dcl +KxwkoZiJ2UjxCwukS1KMo/7MuYvwqK7OfnNftVbnL8cr20x8MUkTId+S9sC/WJH+ZyYOx MghOSrWhW+rkgYVahe1zXPPVxvFH1ygG4gjPifmODigD3gOoAq5Qn4zmk+JgloQ5TuGlvh GGZ+vS00dtqLQDWPxOrV2A0/MYqS24C4581QzuENyfp4cUE8OKpkLIlanqVqhA== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4WVKbq00Zcz16K6 for ; Thu, 25 Jul 2024 18:46:31 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 46PIkUIH046624 for ; Thu, 25 Jul 2024 18:46:30 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 46PIkUCJ046623 for wireless@FreeBSD.org; Thu, 25 Jul 2024 18:46:30 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: wireless@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 273620] iwlwifi meta-bug Date: Thu, 25 Jul 2024 18:46:30 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: wireless X-Bugzilla-Version: CURRENT X-Bugzilla-Keywords: tracking X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: bz@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: bz@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: dependson Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated List-Id: Discussions List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-wireless List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-BeenThere: freebsd-wireless@freebsd.org Sender: owner-freebsd-wireless@FreeBSD.org MIME-Version: 1.0 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D273620 Bjoern A. Hello everyone,=C2=A0

Is there a plan to support nl80211.h in the future? I would like = to write my own wifi scanner that would talk to kernel module (driver) and = get scan information from it. I know it is possible with Linux. Is FreeBSD = planning to do a similar thing? Thanks.

No, this is residential houses with few parties each; I usually see 4-6 stations and max one on neighour channel. Unless there is some crazy radio amateur around, I think radio noise is unlikely. But You drive my thinking to something else: if it's signal quality related, could it also be a bug in the AP (old consumer device, and I know it has bu= gs)? As far as I can still gather my travel logs and system logs, it seems this specific behaviour did not appear at my other location (that one has differ= ent patterns, connection loss during the night, but apparently not this one aft= er boot). --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Sat Jul 27 20:58:26 2024 X-Original-To: freebsd-wireless@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4WWcRD3q4Vz5RgWf for ; Sat, 27 Jul 2024 20:58:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bz@FreeBSD.org) Received: from smtp.freebsd.org (smtp.freebsd.org [96.47.72.83]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "smtp.freebsd.org", Issuer "R10" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4WWcRD3JrKz460T; Sat, 27 Jul 2024 20:58:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bz@FreeBSD.org) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1722113912; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=44Le68/nHxg53Qp1qL8S3YjLDb+w3NjG4E8ZIOaw9RU=; b=CoAa9jGIU3Y9ZedKFx+Yo4hJEqYRpgma8iMPo/oItJ06Jmypzrc0lwiJIhBalkH2JHekaR KjbYXEyBHDjHOEQt3Q8NMf1NVsfz2AqcUnQIzVdSFsKFPJBEzUcZS3xbF1kIjqGEPF7XKa K9Fyjz916HxFr2X6MIWgE2pv8Tnp0sPYpdhMKXniMUNjt810ySm46NzHKSiq7SX1o3rjp1 EiHD+bHqMda5dwI2zR+2oWBlPEitNH7jLmdqbDqHGtfVF6pYAb6PKlB7B59A+hZLBVxpEn Ee7I1i4aOEW4TH+fpRyVtuQcfETGpzq17gTY1KcQ2oKQVDixcCw8b4QkPDE6eA== ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1722113912; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=Bi+qjHdQf4jdIsWkKpjqXllQh2upmhluH+vT1isL4uLXchn2D6thsm0xEkr33CQ4eU6Mjw acsfUogOQmp4fFubFJPSUzkG/NIoPtB4Cf/ZsVa6oJsxNdJSKxxR1bFhFrYy+67lcoqxhh ARuvDvG2f8mhkNjzIDjFcZmkYywg/q9okxjWDeVi0M/qcpJlAXkPv45pZHdwIX9cBV4p3Z VGYsG51J4pDLQJSb2NKogXUgnmg4+Dx6ulCcfphy3jX5y7dYZSkvnJIrYugT9xt4egs2Ve uJPpdAUSiOw0gky+APAGn/tJTv6mfQOlpg1297Zc+NRw/FbRXxNNWaehLxP4PA== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1722113912; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=44Le68/nHxg53Qp1qL8S3YjLDb+w3NjG4E8ZIOaw9RU=; b=YlSKV4exZUTt5rpFmA8v2v6cDm0JVBmo5QQxKV4RYuko2DMq+Hkf/0oDv2UlpGRem4JeCO zceCcgfsY15QGhGpfL31BfjYsw13LOcYrOsGfBhNEI3JYVjm4+tjN9UPnATZhRDIEOjrTN 7/igM/KDZKFwYwIt7MYmi7cLYv3R6Tre5s/zW7gDw0aAcI5yszkcGAeBzMLTIdlmYQs8HH 7VXVtprMRESHvi/Uol3g0jj39GeDy3KofPnI0Ei+bxVFQJcAQyO67Dsg/ECPRYOat4I0lu 36QXBGNw/jOhCPPiRCAOLC7gNiuXqT/VSwZjN55rBSm1M+OYAU+5Qwx1r35MyA== Received: from mx-01.divo.sbone.de (mx-01.divo.sbone.de [IPv6:2003:a:140a:2200:6:594:fffe:19]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature ECDSA (P-256) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mx-01.divo.sbone.de", Issuer "E5" (verified OK)) (Authenticated sender: bz/mail) by smtp.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 4WWcRD1T4yzJSj; Sat, 27 Jul 2024 20:58:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bz@FreeBSD.org) Received: from mail.sbone.de (mail.sbone.de [IPv6:fde9:577b:c1a9:4902:0:7404:2:1025]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature ECDSA (prime256v1) server-digest SHA256) (No client certificate requested) by mx-01.divo.sbone.de (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 30793A64806; Sat, 27 Jul 2024 20:58:27 +0000 (UTC) Received: from content-filter.t4-02.sbone.de (content-filter.t4-02.sbone.de [IPv6:fde9:577b:c1a9:4902:0:7404:2:2742]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (No client certificate requested) by mail.sbone.de (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 3F0322D029D8; Sat, 27 Jul 2024 20:58:28 +0000 (UTC) X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at sbone.de Received: from mail.sbone.de ([IPv6:fde9:577b:c1a9:4902:0:7404:2:1025]) by content-filter.t4-02.sbone.de (content-filter.t4-02.sbone.de [IPv6:fde9:577b:c1a9:4902:0:7404:2:2742]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id lDFCcH-kU-jp; Sat, 27 Jul 2024 20:58:27 +0000 (UTC) Received: from strong-iwl0.sbone.de (strong-iwl0.sbone.de [IPv6:fde9:577b:c1a9:4902:b66b:fcff:fef3:e3d2]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (No client certificate requested) by mail.sbone.de (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 6EA912D029D2; Sat, 27 Jul 2024 20:58:27 +0000 (UTC) Date: Sat, 27 Jul 2024 20:58:26 +0000 (UTC) From: "Bjoern A. You can look at ifconfig sources for freebsd how to obtain scan information; it's simple ioctl. I'd start here: https://cgit.freebsd.org/src/tree/sbin/ifconfig/ifieee80211.c#n3744 There rest of the code is in the library you can use as well (and which ifconfig uses): https://cgit.freebsd.org/src/tree/lib/lib80211 HTH, /bz -- Bjoern A.
