Unfortunately, my attempt at using db_hwatchpoint_cmd to automatically set up the monitoring seems to have lead to "WARNING !drm_modeset_is_locked . . ." as what visibly happens on detection --and is not providing for access to backtraces or such for the code doing the unexpected modification. If I did not mess up the db_hwatchpoint_cmd calls, I doubt that I have enough background knowledge to figure out what is going on or how to get it to allow providing the backtrace for the value change. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From nobody Mon Dec 30 03:06:45 2024 X-Original-To: fs@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4YM1Gb01R5z5jFVP for ; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 03:06:47 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R11" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4YM1GZ4BKzz4yLn for ; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 03:06:46 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1735528006; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=kt8LvYnNHt1o9SyBmeC56l/CRQLNm9U66Fh+gtb48vU=; b=fWiCkmvmYf4JGGox9RsU9S7+jl3rxPZORL1p2xYMJc0zaFBXo3elZra7pS5xsu1Z00BY6A bL7UkE2wOcnDiC2yEisAfmlcFaumj99MNIJm8M1kapB3Oom1VE0LQCXZ9gBBq9l6khDDTH ekQPsqwm0QGtUgyQQcFrMsa7uvz+en/1guGGe0LKRCtgIeF8DNvAvrwfiuWF+8/JqC1irL Ljf20Qpd8V0z0zoRpvHM51kfDB9k8K42InzSEfz/YSNwfQioHisR0CtNCQp0De9feEMrP4 A4rOC/FBJ8GZNGIv/JdrrIqRD/Q4K2fj50PwNf7ffntoTMiq3U6RV+MhoQi79Q== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1735528006; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=n896gKkzRzHmWFx240DMCV12JobG3AHzQgWiUvKOuIRU16dEaxIDIDCD/Ud+HAYYwjQsVN p8QRrBRBuL5d3v1IBbEQu5XNAubxaI4MRgUqa1AaKhWR8FOtPSjLa2aGqdEGihectIxfaG SciO0nVznUQt8yeJo6tDJOcci1w0BZJpQIO4DksWl3Q1qOedmORUa8AVL+7Um3MZKKG35F ICF8+2xgMafo5enjzwMMOsr947VH+G6K2zDkcLe0Eygfv9lh4Kd6Zp0OuCmBtRjUUl9O7y cuGYOjs0T66G7T5ZkNPhdciP7vC3Itubnr1kgd6k7IYOkuuWGyv3MRWHgYjdvg== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4YM1GZ3hfmzcjX for ; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 03:06:46 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 4BU36kVr049499 for ; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 03:06:46 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 4BU36k8L049498 for fs@FreeBSD.org; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 03:06:46 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: fs@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 267028] kernel panics when booting with both (zfs,ko or vboxnetflt,ko or acpi_wmi.ko) and amdgpu.ko Date: Mon, 30 Dec 2024 03:06:45 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 13.1-RELEASE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: crash, needs-qa X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: marklmi26-fbsd@yahoo.com X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: bugs@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: maintainer-feedback? Also, I'm likely in a greatly restricted FreeBSD-time context until then. [I'll remind that kernels with my investigative patches should not be used beyond boot testing. Normal operation should use a normal kernel.] But I've also not managed to generate any more potentially working ideas for identifying what is doing the unexpected modification. I've no clue what is going on for the db_hwatchpoint_cmd usage leading to "WARNING !drm_modeset_is_locked . . ." while giving no access to a backtrace or the like for when the unexpected modification happens. I'm not sure that I'm ever going to be all that much more help in isolating the problem if hwatchpoint use proves insufficient. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From nobody Mon Dec 30 11:24:40 2024 X-Original-To: fs@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4YMDK50Kvnz5jqD5 for ; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 11:24:41 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R11" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4YMDK43w4Dz4MNf for ; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 11:24:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1735557880; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=29TPp0+Ovvql7Ud4ynBHZhOXKMRFWu5CLhCb3K/DRrs=; b=ku0f6Itpb8dJSZkphPvB2I2ucF5OY9rt0upNJ/gb7YGA1My9jjTivaiuOXgUAVgzxOX3z/ IW13kEYD0PZd34ksD/eeMj59spNhYBdgmpPGFNfefJangdXdAJ8DvnZpq3c6M9CJZqjwwr /FGw3Mt5tVKsoMrMnEnpBLaC0+Jqw+9xswevgNeAwEjiqRohH0AESG0cpOcA/Uxr2rOWTc /WEWjX1xVo4zwSOP+IFmEw+4GHyUVr+F7nv00YqylSdIPZ76W3zGweitDkaFrYyWKumqTu rH0AmoHLZTtyqsUttHCcVQ2Re9kPc7jdNpD2IoTdwlQ/lbWRkG1FsHpGrJC6ig== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1735557880; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=TA/hjb3k3a3RX4FVr2GVdYZta14S5EMri3GPLaPbRskO/eBUW3oio+Qv7bVs+AlRf6ZASc VQeef/Tb4vzOvdr+p7MeWXoonXkKNQxos4t2AGXFYtlEbL1tXxKikqQKnsvpW59ScSqau9 gMqKhAHaOO0N4ljMZXikIEQVj/R20V3UfWDjxN1R40SW6RU6Z35Ex36L1o30OXNW4wOr/O PZ8geGsd0b64iOv3KrxyuJ4LpgF4nDffFyIPrVKlvjvIhiSgvXShktWB9T7ACM7rjMU+HD hVVtGeeapfIsRuWw9Lcumfz1ZWPUYc+ZDIhax6PtSNWILlz4zTbDektP4GCYcQ== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4YMDK43PZYzsbn for ; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 11:24:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 4BUBOe68099435 for ; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 11:24:40 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 4BUBOebq099434 for fs@FreeBSD.org; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 11:24:40 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: fs@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 267028] kernel panics when booting with both (zfs,ko or vboxnetflt,ko or acpi_wmi.ko) and amdgpu.ko Date: Mon, 30 Dec 2024 11:24:40 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 13.1-RELEASE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: crash, needs-qa X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: avg@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: bugs@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: maintainer-feedback? Perhaps, try modifying trap() in sys/amd64/amd64/trap.c to unconditionally panic for kernel-side T_DNA. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From nobody Mon Dec 30 13:22:31 2024 X-Original-To: fs@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4YMGx45JY5z5jxbj for ; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 13:22:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R11" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4YMGx42lwqz4XFD for ; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 13:22:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1735564952; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=C3YfFxg3mc/fiQjMTaXL7Goa0MIouGFomX+hmugxAeM=; b=fnpB5uPyzOnwBhs+zcMTPB7enHCxWN6Q3sdXnmARc2l9d647RUaPj/CUZcxlN2vKZNbURn QeBP/DWotwTWwJKK44f5Jh0+nyybqv0/OIszaXpHB5V6WWyoxnQUfXUwkSxVASuxk20yHU CWN6vLmpPYwN0Kv7Rl3VhNRCF1ZirRvdNh6XeYOs+B8wHf8ic8vaC2N1vYF9S2YfdCdC3B u2YA0n1UEGgYdsBur4k1DAwRy3PSv8LsFhPby4VOJ84/mAqW1pq5AzG+arZ9IT2Rmkv4eQ Mkid7ZsK+DZYxP1XFWoRehrNjPicjeRQLKvpNsL7QdY0E7mIA0abqEQr/vS7DA== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1735564952; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=xnF/lPPFqGJ0iE+08kefodCo6r9QkVe8a/yt68yreDUa5uljfhmkVE+dxGXsYtFWe8QImX Zo1hADiHl9Rhul2175Gd3qvtCToDxgDtjGsi0hqv0QtzJMzZ3MXdtVLWM6KeZnzDpaF03j 4iv3I0I52Fcwu+FPSOOVcUmeMZd3XN9YWbtuql7H5WT0PTkGEI6wQgi79clQm8knXVGaJr 32AjlLn+bsrK7AyIgB3ukc0Y6wfXd9Cj5XK8SOlEN6ZWrzSPDP2Kx6S13nEsnW6cbt7tdg 8wqnShCpmwrF5bqTABm8RHCh78TzbjT7gRT8yWU41qIgUfJ57ltmRBhgxhYuNg== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4YMGx42MjPzwbD for ; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 13:22:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 4BUDMWV2099491 for ; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 13:22:32 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 4BUDMWdi099490 for fs@FreeBSD.org; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 13:22:32 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: fs@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 267028] kernel panics when booting with both (zfs,ko or vboxnetflt,ko or acpi_wmi.ko) and amdgpu.ko Date: Mon, 30 Dec 2024 13:22:31 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 13.1-RELEASE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: crash, needs-qa X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: marklmi26-fbsd@yahoo.com X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: bugs@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: maintainer-feedback? System updates/upgrades have *always* been managed with freebsd-update. Latest upgrade from 13.3-p6 to 13.4-p1 shows "loader needs to be updated" in the beastie menu in the console now. This is new. # zfs --version zfs-2.1.14-FreeBSD_gd99134be8 zfs-kmod-2.1.15-FreeBSD_gd99134be8 (perhaps side issue - different version numbers, same -FreeBSD_gd99134be8 ?!!) This system is *not* root-on-zfs. There is zfs, but it's data on a non-boot virtual disk. "zpool status" invites me to upgrade the pool. I've not done this (have never done it with this vm, either), and don't want to unless I'm absolutely certain upgrading the pool won't break everything. I note from a (similar, but different context) thread last September https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-current/2024-September/006378.html that FreeBSD uses "the guest's boot loader and the host's /boot/lua files" but I'm clueless how this would apply in an amd64 context with Azure as the host. What do i have to do? Also, is the warning safe to ignore in this context? -- From nobody Mon Dec 30 16:21:44 2024 X-Original-To: fs@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4YMLvr6Xqxz5k88P for ; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 16:21:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R11" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4YMLvr5MCjz4qGm for ; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 16:21:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1735575704; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=NwKQCZxkhEoDyNmjt2DGHAhy/uX00gCMp4MO02EJueU=; b=R/FgexslV8p8ztXIfBIhW/a5H8Q4xd9DgFft0qUFDPV5xOdVGaz20O5l3yIRBRf0QYmiGY yxZB0JvtjfW6gytymCGODmdxSUNgHHr93016iVqXD7O2m1RIK1AO2bK4Rl/o4lARSXLdmY cHLrKHmUEOXZCjpRhFSw1XxszEgfSwTh7K/s9nYPdk5U78CsHO+tjchAxwZmewe+Mt5+nh dIsIRFVmV4gGq9z4oc3B5RYRtw6lNjHlXFwuVbPzxk+4wnLp73j9959/r4i4K9pVB3WrRZ pebg8buxXTAkLidukbojyEWTWgcU4UXufo8+d/WpOlttrqSWmWCDos+Yr2fgrg== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1735575704; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=cVzZRVWl5K758vKUqScEyDzErtf6sRp+BzhovD1PzXnz1zJgBbEl7ZxPiB6YMqjYuTzUf2 HQNrbiSmPqBLUOdpvWSYYCXkE3Dpmm7XcoezQfYwXPaNDHIqut773XxndkrITI0LpQv3Er elqhkQTK0ZVjSaYnDBRauqq841cP4ZOps5SMPmVVlRbe9C0JSjxwe/pO9Q0GqGMfW5Hro0 UxCmA/JgzFHi2+w9yqPVWBpyyrbhQsWNJPMdGMQyqVGmJzCZfQhlarcn3op5vi1Mk2wVle IT/LUMzJ8bSNp6MEIz6TOICC2Q5acFMx7KstfT5U1QqVP72VmdZxdBiE83eJTA== Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4YMLvr4r0Bz11dD for ; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 16:21:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 4BUGLiBZ007075 for ; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 16:21:44 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 4BUGLirn007074 for fs@FreeBSD.org; Mon, 30 Dec 2024 16:21:44 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: fs@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 267028] kernel panics when booting with both (zfs,ko or vboxnetflt,ko or acpi_wmi.ko) and amdgpu.ko Date: Mon, 30 Dec 2024 16:21:44 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: CC X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 13.1-RELEASE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: crash, needs-qa X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: marklmi26-fbsd@yahoo.com X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: bugs@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: maintainer-feedback? It looks to me like the code: if ((frame->tf_rflags & PSL_I) =3D=3D 0) { /* * Buggy application or kernel code has disabled * interrupts and then trapped. Enabling interrupts * now is wrong, but it is better than running with * interrupts disabled until they are accidentally * enabled later. */ . . . would still happen and do: default: printf( "kernel trap %d with interrupts disabled\n", type); /* * We shouldn't enable interrupts while hol= ding a * spin lock. */ if (td->td_md.md_spinlock_count =3D=3D 0) enable_intr(); It might be that Andriy was suggesting avoiding parts of this in some way. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.= From nobody Mon Dec 30 17:02:56 2024 X-Original-To: freebsd-fs@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4YMMqh1vtdz5kBJb for ; Also, is the warning safe to ignore in this = context? Context: My notes here do not span extra issues associated with VM's (guest vs. host file usage). But I expect they still apply in part, such as about what is likely not involved: ZFS. Just an FYI that "loader" here is likely material on a msdosfs file system that is in a GPT or MBR partition. See the 2 *.efi file names listed below (not done from a 13.* context): # find /boot/efi/EFI/ -print /boot/efi/EFI/ /boot/efi/EFI/FREEBSD /boot/efi/EFI/FREEBSD/loader.efi /boot/efi/EFI/BOOT /boot/efi/EFI/BOOT/bootx64.efi The details of the directory name used for the mount point might not be efi, possibly: msdos . EFI might not be capitalized in your context. (I like to keep the two visually distinct.) You may not have FREEBSD/ but should have at least BOOT/ . Again, there might be capitalization differences. So far as I know, "Loader needs to be updated" would have nothing to do with ZFS or other file system vintage. It just means that the *.efi file used is an older vintage, if I understand right. I've never figured out just when the FREEBSD/ is appropriate to have --and so have maintained having both (same content). Such may well not be needed for my context. To my knowledge freebsd-update, and FreeBSD in general, does not maintain the msdosfs content involved, such as the *.efi files: that is an extra manual step. Various details are possibly outside FreeBSD's control, such that automatic updating might not always go so well? =3D=3D=3D Mark Millard marklmi at yahoo.com From nobody Mon Dec 30 17:59:47 2024 X-Original-To: freebsd-fs@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4YMP5H3mccz5hXCW for ; System updates/upgrades have *always* been managed with freebsd-update.

Latest upgrade from 13.3-p6 to 13.4-p1 shows "loader needs to be updat= ed"
in the beastie menu in the console now. This is new.

# zfs --version
zfs-2.1.14-FreeBSD_gd99134be8
zfs-kmod-2.1.15-FreeBSD_gd99134be8

(perhaps side issue - different version numbers, same -FreeBSD_gd99134be8 ?= !!)

This system is *not* root-on-zfs. There is zfs, but it's data on
a non-boot virtual disk.

"zpool status" invites me to upgrade the pool. I've not done = this (have
never done it with this vm, either), and don't want to unless I'm absolutely certain upgrading the pool won't break everything.

I note from a (similar, but different context) thread last September
https://list= s.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-current/2024-September/006378.html
that FreeBSD uses "the guest's boot loader and the host's /boo= t/lua files"
but I'm clueless how this would apply in an amd64 context with Azure as the host.

What do i have to do? Also, is the warning safe to ignore in this context?<= br>

This is new. I am seeing this message on all my 13.4 systems (all upgraded from source via "make installworld" & friends). So far it didn't appear to induce any malfunctions, so I decided to ignore it (systems aren't supposed to be rebooted often). Recently I've seen this message, and also another message shown before the loader appears, only for a fraction of a second, apparently coming from the EFI stuff, on my laptop. And since I was sitting on the train with nothing to do, I had a look into the efi filesystem, and found the loader there being from 2022. The laptop does boot via EFI, only - and the efi filesystem could not be updated via "make installworld" (even if it would try, which it doesn't), because it is normally not mounted. So I grabbed the according loader executable from /boot, which apparently is up-to-date, and copied it into the efi filesystem. It didn't help anything. > This system is *not* root-on-zfs. It must be < 2 for > mounting within the jail to work. Thanks for your help. The jail config is fine (enforce_statfs is set to 1 in that case), like mentioned utilizing mount_fusefs(8) is working as expected in my jail as long as the process invoking it is privileged. My issue is that vfs.usermount doesn't affect how mount requests from jails are handled. Even if setting vfs.usermount to 1 on my host would enable unprivileged users in my jail to mount_fusefs(8), this setting has unwanted side effects - I don't want users to mount anything on the host. *I don't know if it is intentional* that vfs.usermount is ignored for jailed processes. What we really would need is a jail-only setting allowing user mounts. Global for all jails might be sufficient, since you have to selectively allow.mount each fs-type separately. Per jail would be the best implementation. Maybe I oversee any other security impact of allowing unprivileged processes to mount from/inside jails!?! For my current use case, I could tolerate vfs.usermount affecting the host security because no users other than the su(1)-permitted admin can sign in. But I'm not sure I can cope with the security implication having the /sbin/mount_fusefs SUID permission bit set, which is my current solution (which makes user-mounting RDPDR fusefs working!). But it only allowed mounting by jailed privileged users. There's no public record of the code review, so I don't know what was discussed. I'd be wary of granting extra privileges to jails, though. Jail security can be tricky. There are a number of ways, for example, for a jailed privileged user to collaborate with an unjailed unprivileged user in order to gain root outside of the jail. I will note that there's another option. mac(9) can choose to allow an operation that would otherwise be disallowed. So it would be possible to write a rule that would allow a user (perhaps a specific user, or all users, or a range, etc) to mount a file system. mac_bsdextended doesn't have that ability, but it could be added. mac_biba, mac_lowmac, and mac_mls all do. However, I don't know those well enough to write rules for them. You'll have to do some research there. Hope that helps, -Alan
