You found a bug in NFSv4.n when delegations are enabled (nfscbd running on the client and a server that has delegations enabled). I reproduced it. The mtime is actually correct on the file server. (if you look at the files on the server after unrolling the tarball.) At least this is what I see. However, the client is returning a stale mtime. Since I can reproduce it, I should be able to fix it fairly quickly. You already know how to avoid it (don't run nfscbd or don't enable delegations on the server). Thanks for reporting it, rick ps: It would still be nice if you can answer the questions in my previous email. > Or what am > I doing wrong? > > I'm still at 13.4, and the share comes from ZFS and is created for > the exclusive use on a single client. > > > cheerio, > PMc From nobody Mon Feb 24 02:28:03 2025 X-Original-To: freebsd-fs@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4Z1PmK71Scz5pTtj for ; Mon, 24 Feb 2025 02:28:17 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from rick.macklem@gmail.com) Received: from mail-ed1-x529.google.com (mail-ed1-x529.google.com [IPv6:2a00:1450:4864:20::529]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 (128/128 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (2048 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "smtp.gmail.com", Issuer "WR4" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4Z1PmK2pF4z3l9m for ; Mon, 24 Feb 2025 02:28:17 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from rick.macklem@gmail.com) Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; none Received: by mail-ed1-x529.google.com with SMTP id 4fb4d7f45d1cf-5ded46f323fso5350090a12.1 for ; Sun, 23 Feb 2025 18:28:17 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20230601; t=1740364096; x=1740968896; darn=freebsd.org; h=cc:to:subject:message-id:date:from:in-reply-to:references :mime-version:from:to:cc:subject:date:message-id:reply-to; bh=qq6RBklPgQkJGI5U8BEGjNcAW/jfL84zU5TfoNln2Xk=; b=BIuu70ub+NP57Q9xeKR2vxERjhrPm1Kyy3wgiVaVs6NpddGM2dRxB9PlppqOUHBXIh sSKIEW29AS+mL5F0/GZbnBGoE5eaQ016nu4tUtk/MJoxoJ/3Z6v8fcgECpXxvhm77mEQ 8LC3XYqm9hwjklu4YKLV4VtSQRFZNy/O0LVf5Dq4ZwJDdyAWtZbO1r5uFpo16jytbfuP VQtcGcLKtzGaKPyAxcEjF+yqwWE22gbicgXApucQ8qUeCseR7o6Ds3Ht9da8wES7AqdG EQtUiQzeMeVOJteZ/EjfekU/MT38YOaX9vYyHvflzDB8/R+tQXIxz9R3iX7YWGRjKJVE UQnw== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20230601; t=1740364096; x=1740968896; h=cc:to:subject:message-id:date:from:in-reply-to:references :mime-version:x-gm-message-state:from:to:cc:subject:date:message-id :reply-to; bh=qq6RBklPgQkJGI5U8BEGjNcAW/jfL84zU5TfoNln2Xk=; b=dWTgmrdtyJHN6lAw75f+42TeqMciwZIc9VRFmg2VyEUtRmlzJ74II8SJZFp8jJ0oEq oEPZn8mb+xsl3C2TrSv9Ms3e3B+RKix9U78VVVf7NWAjHdFQ2/soBXUZ35EwlRq9pK2I K4ybwRBq+/zNQkSRaN9o1nX4pO5ZrdB5BayHB3QmvxrdwiIhS4prOzUZ9D8/n/V5p29U WHDSAW3g4GCAlh3hzGO9HQAa+od9fPqBB4+GKa/8IGjZIg6ykmWXoRZjkzP4pFOPg2ZP rTRuaFC8nK+LNzX2NK4O8y8WY+iiiBw9xNZfiREb4lS/HN+E6yXgsT79Je+Vg3ACKwjS poXw== X-Gm-Message-State: AOJu0YyGDbWcoT35xSHSo33Gd3taBTIPkLxv9XnPTyQ+ok26gC0v+UT0 XBIv57kg7xtjqrsEZzPu0SM9T40gGgBt7AuRuzRk3myKdcw1N+595ZPZhPIHQeGqKG1xDsVjscK bFzgYFQiE5m1OMATGmWJhH30tvg== X-Gm-Gg: ASbGncv5BgBSAv7UaKWa3pxajCu8lOMiaw4JIiuFAqivLs60x2C0F8ZwWqSFjHP6oqA Dcs1lbnv/plZ6b6ZTbOg1u/RD+2lhSneX2nvh50LVOIL6H/DtDtupBpGFVXcjt7jVjdbvoZ/TIx US0Y9DoRXHvLni2+w0gaKucaeilW3GWkW/qsOkcQpS X-Google-Smtp-Source: AGHT+IHvCLA3svdzXwlM6UwjeRC8rAszAdLvfnJHeWbBQTC92Mo0sF0kGVTSdgmVnNgWvoNpC9BT8WLAgAawJEnfez4= X-Received: by 2002:a05:6402:5248:b0:5dc:8ed9:6bc3 with SMTP id 4fb4d7f45d1cf-5e0b7236f16mr10109410a12.26.1740364095436; Sun, 23 Feb 2025 18:28:15 -0800 (PST) List-Id: Filesystems List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-fs List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-fs@FreeBSD.org MIME-Version: 1.0 References: In-Reply-To: From: Rick Macklem Date: Sun, 23 Feb 2025 18:28:03 -0800 X-Gm-Features: AWEUYZmaWwrs07Ua8dpdKRY7EcmDxfvUKS-ZieYEzT_OFVFqdW-ZY2iiZWuIGeQ Message-ID: Subject: Re: nfscbd does not update mtime To: "Peter 'PMc' Much" Cc: freebsd-fs@freebsd.org Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="000000000000b06e35062eda1739" X-Rspamd-Pre-Result: action=no action; module=replies; Message is reply to one we originated X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-4.00 / 15.00]; REPLY(-4.00)[]; TAGGED_FROM(0.00)[]; ASN(0.00)[asn:15169, ipnet:2a00:1450::/32, country:US] X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 4Z1PmK2pF4z3l9m X-Spamd-Bar: ---- --000000000000b06e35062eda1739 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On Sun, Feb 23, 2025 at 3:09=E2=80=AFPM Peter 'PMc' Much wrote: > > > Hello, > > after some discussion earlier concerning a runaway nfscbd process > (which luckily did not repeat), I decided to correctly (hopefully) > engage the feature. > > But now I find it has a side-effect: one cannot compile ports, because > the mtime isn't right. You found a bug in NFSv4.n when delegations are enabled (nfscbd ! running on the client and a server that has delegations enabled). ! I reproduced it. The mtime is actually correct on the file server. ! (if you look at the files on the server after unrolling the tarball.) ! At least this is what I see. Yes, me too - I mounted to another client, and the correct time appeared. ! However, the client is returning a stale mtime. ! Since I can reproduce it, I should be able to fix it fairly quickly. relief here... and - You're incredible fast ! Now take your time, this one is not an issue - it's genuine by-catch. ! You already know how to avoid it (don't run nfscbd or don't enable ! delegations on the server). ! ! Thanks for reporting it, rick ! ps: It would still be nice if you can answer the questions in my ! previous email. Sure, just had to unravel the stack of work on top of which this one appeared. zfs: non-redundant zpool suspended till hard boot on any transient e= rror

Colleagues,

regarding situations like
https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/external-drive-= zfs-power-loss-insufficient-replicas-pool-suspended-cannot-online-dev-da0-p= ool-i-o-is-currently-suspended.94141/
(non redundant zpool on external drive)

as noted, even subsecond disconnect on otherwise idle pool leads to instant= and
irreversible pool suspension.  hard reset (as kernel hangs on I/O requ= ests on
suspended pool forever) is the only way to recover

also, found this patch, but can't evaluate it myself:
https://github.com/op= enzfs/zfs/pull/11082

any thoughts?  thanks in advance!
