Zeeb --- With new firmware the LinuxKPI error shows up as well (in addition to my instrumentation). Also the "undo" from mlx5_core in LinuxKPI pci_release_resource() results i= n a panic (assertion) inside pci(4). I do understand the problem and the workaround from the patch seems fine for now. It is the cause but the reasoning is wrong. pci_resource_len() calls lkpi_pci_get_bar() with true, which will create the resource and then in the follow-up bus_alloc_resource_any() fails (hence printing the error). If we make pci_resource_len() call lkpi_pci_get_bar() with false the bar wo= n't be there and the =3D=3D 0 check will fail. So in the end the check becomes pointless in this order. However I need to fix the callers to deal with the problem and see how to do error handling there. I'll likely not have time before mid-week to look again but I have to stop = now. It's Mon 4:15AM. Thanks for all the help for getting me setup for this so I could debug it!!! Just so I do not lose it -- the panic. That's likely for someone else to l= ook. mlx5_core2: WARN: wait_fw_init:779:(pid 5986): Waiting for FW initializatio= n, timeout abort in 3 s mlx5_core2: WARN: wait_fw_init:779:(pid 5986): Waiting for FW initializatio= n, timeout abort in 0 s mlx5_core2: Firmware over 5000 MS in pre-initializing state, aborting mlx5_core2: ERR: init_one:1710:(pid 5986): mlx5_load_one failed -16 panic: pci_vf_release_mem_resource: rman 0xfffff80049fb9e30 doesn't match f= or resource 0xfffff80001a71d80 cpuid =3D 7 time =3D 1763946040 KDB: stack backtrace: db_trace_self_wrapper() at db_trace_self_wrapper+0x2b/frame 0xfffffe00ff27f= 760 vpanic() at vpanic+0x136/frame 0xfffffe00ff27f890 panic() at panic+0x43/frame 0xfffffe00ff27f8f0 pci_vf_release_mem_resource() at pci_vf_release_mem_resource+0xf6/frame 0xfffffe00ff27f920 linuxkpi_pci_release_regions() at linuxkpi_pci_release_regions+0x10/frame 0xfffffe00ff27f940 mlx5_pci_close() at mlx5_pci_close+0x73/frame 0xfffffe00ff27f970 init_one() at init_one+0x138f/frame 0xfffffe00ff27f9e0 linux_pci_attach_device() at linux_pci_attach_device+0x56b/frame 0xfffffe00ff27fa40 device_attach() at device_attach+0x45b/frame 0xfffffe00ff27fa90 bus_attach_children() at bus_attach_children+0x4a/frame 0xfffffe00ff27fab0 pci_iov_enumerate_vfs() at pci_iov_enumerate_vfs+0x3b6/frame 0xfffffe00ff27= fb30 pci_iov_ioctl() at pci_iov_ioctl+0x844/frame 0xfffffe00ff27fbc0 devfs_ioctl() at devfs_ioctl+0xd1/frame 0xfffffe00ff27fc10 VOP_IOCTL_APV() at VOP_IOCTL_APV+0x51/frame 0xfffffe00ff27fc40 vn_ioctl() at vn_ioctl+0x160/frame 0xfffffe00ff27fcb0 devfs_ioctl_f() at devfs_ioctl_f+0x1e/frame 0xfffffe00ff27fcd0 kern_ioctl() at kern_ioctl+0x2a1/frame 0xfffffe00ff27fd40 sys_ioctl() at sys_ioctl+0x12f/frame 0xfffffe00ff27fe00 amd64_syscall() at amd64_syscall+0x169/frame 0xfffffe00ff27ff30 fast_syscall_common() at fast_syscall_common+0xf8/frame 0xfffffe00ff27ff30 --- syscall (54, FreeBSD ELF64, ioctl), rip =3D 0x378cf1afa03a, rsp =3D 0x378ced110678, rbp =3D 0x378ced1106d0 --- KDB: enter: panic [ thread pid 5986 tid 100225 ] Stopped at kdb_enter+0x33: movq $0,0x1217452(%rip) --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Mon Nov 24 09:23:00 2025 X-Original-To: net@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4dFL2t0xSQz6JMsr for ; Install & setup Wireguard instance on an wg interface. Add a CARP virtual IP to your ethernet interface (your outgoing interface if you have more than one). Add an outgoing NAT rule that does Source NAT from your ethernet IP address= to your CARP address. Setup a Wireguard peer. Do *not* use wg(8) to set the peers endpoint addres= s. When setup is done, initiate the connection from the peer. On the peer you should *not* see any incoming traffic. On your wg instance, see tcpdump -n -i udp and port 51820 see ifconfig debug and dmesg see wg show see pfctl -s states | grep 51820 --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Tue Nov 25 14:22:25 2025 X-Original-To: net@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4dG4dt5flHz6JDVY for ; Actually the interface should at least send out LACP packets when it is a member of lagg interface. I have managed to repeat this issue. There're two issue with qlnxe(4) curre= ntly are identified. The first one is, the out path ( if_transmit ) lacks ETHER_BPF_MTAP and thus bpf(4) does not have a chance to see the outgoing packets. The second one is, there's a small initialization bug, that when the qlnxe(= 4) is not flagged up, aka `ifconfig ql0 up`, setup the multicast addresses ( a= ka SIOCADDMULTI ioctl ) is a noop, and the interface will not be programmed wi= th desired multicast filter, hence the slow protocol multicast traffic ( dest 01:80:c2:00:00:02 ) are all dropped by the interface. That can be identifie= d by the statistic, ``` # sysctl dev.ql.0.hwstat.mac_filter_discards dev.ql.0.hwstat.mac_filter_discards: 284 ``` To workaround the second issue, you may want to put the qlnxe(4) interface = into up status before adding it to lagg(4), ``` # ifconfig ql0 up # ifconfig ql1 up # ifconfig lagg0 create # ifconfig lagg0 laggproto lacp laggport ql0 laggport ql1 # ifconfig lagg0 up # ifconfig lagg0 lagg0: flags=3D1008843 met= ric 0 mtu 1500 =20=20=20=20=20=20=20 options=3D8d07bb ether f4:e9:d4:xx:xx:xx hwaddr 00:00:00:00:00:00 laggproto lacp lagghash l2,l3,l4 laggport: ql0 flags=3D1c laggport: ql1 flags=3D1c groups: lagg media: Ethernet autoselect status: active nd6 options=3D29 ``` I'm preparing the fix. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From nobody Thu Nov 27 10:12:18 2025 X-Original-To: net@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4dHC0N6wc5z6J29D for ; Finally, an in tree driver for these very common NICs. The 1100.00 version of the net/realtek-re-kmod was just unreliable for me (constant hangs, no matter which options I turned off and on). I've only done light testing with the official 1101.00 driver. I was able to wedge it with less than a minute of iperf3, and the ifconfig down/up dance that was able to revive the interface with 1100.00 was not able to recover the interface. I ran if_rge on my NAS and did some testing. I haven't had one hang with this driver, even after pounding the network for hours. That's a big plus for me. Thanks. I was able to achieve close to 2.5Gb/s TX and close to 1Gb/s RX with iperf3 --bidir. CPU usage appears to be substantially higher than with the official Realtek driver. [intr{irq59: rge0}] goes to around 50% of one core, and [kernel{rge0 taskq thread}] hovers between 20-25% when running the above iperf3 tests. With the official 1101.00 driver, the only process using > 1% CPU is this one [kernel{re0 taskq}] and it is around 10% with the test mentioned above. I'll go dig into that a bit. It shouldn't be taking very much CPU to process this number of packets; the bulk of the CPU should be used by the IP stack. I'll go run some profiling over the next few days and see if I can nail down what I'm doing poorly. Hopefully it's something stupid on my end. ;-) -adrian From nobody Sat Nov 29 18:25:38 2025 X-Original-To: net@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4dJdrf5yDJz6HgQW for ; Sat, 29 Nov 2025 18:25:38 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "R12" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4dJdrf4wV0z49fl for ; Sat, 29 Nov 2025 18:25:38 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1764440738; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=VOKuxVP0MlpbwbeNczDlAcTYaQOAbGCTtz0KOABzKPM=; b=lwDnojdlzDuGUIkkySCUTWeQ+YA3nCPDzDNSBuspHGz089SbJEkRSFZT0qxOWV26iQiEG5 ZsyIz885jibKL3VRi58NLgvV/AfT1Zxc3SjrsJO7OfHJqL61SOYB1PqbxDQtEcw6SsXW2G vFd7O5KjoPXFoFYNZ1hrZQpEnL6IgEsSmV+oUCONqTio4MCS7e1A+TcL5ounp08n29NbVm dp+aGCM+HEciGsn9M71SOBYglrQPGoO8x2Ks1w4wRljeGEbzMCJfYMOBlKFWSgFMw1r5MT kpxagt1foidPDbNUdi22LCKQ8La29tQ6VVDIAA08MXihOJOERxfEiyeIW1UHMg== ARC-Message-Signature: i=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=freebsd.org; s=dkim; t=1764440738; h=from:from:reply-to:subject:subject:date:date:message-id:message-id: to:to:cc:mime-version:mime-version:content-type:content-type: content-transfer-encoding:content-transfer-encoding: in-reply-to:in-reply-to:references:references; bh=VOKuxVP0MlpbwbeNczDlAcTYaQOAbGCTtz0KOABzKPM=; b=ZSUpRm/fT+v8Ab7E9utKw9wC6Uj1OugLVSDfuh+zf+HlJEq3OvLfZ2RVovsGk17fFfMtZy LAIIBUHEOKg/GvdtA2Uiar0/zUxsd+x81Kqgw9FvruN1Rwnf+aI/ynurMXekq9hUJjIWte L5Ao0ek5NNoR8XMq/e4MiM8ZTXxKRguzVOlEuJU0Wu9HkFR3sb7pSXP8cOaD6SC7DsZiMr 8/L22ysQPnjEvRoECG0YmR1wDIpMJu87Sy+AH297t4Qhk/MLZYfzsdCGrMOK5JO9PFtBgL T62BXfUBunFgXKSbHUR1zjGkgsMPmdQwDZpZDD6WgdwT6pRJv6+xA3hh/0h5/g== ARC-Seal: i=1; s=dkim; d=freebsd.org; t=1764440738; a=rsa-sha256; cv=none; b=JvJrh0fkd9weS0hlopubf8X5A0OJ+PqDruDoIq76u+TrHvn+Bxh2TNjHJjHeKF8XwO3eoX L9xQTxdJDx3UJPzJKBbedsnR21nYqjNKA8r+mVN9TRlOi/RPIdy+TlmkGb1kt3cnIFaKRU 48jThUW3rh3Y1INzWvw9KDx4+9z8Q589cpHPa1iCSWiNHefKmS8V73EUZxl7DCAmH4Iycr 7GCzxQYgWWUTmuDuhvKssp0Ti2FJ+D0NLGTVkd6CvioTkYeub7+LW3LwyihATpMA9bPtsB AhQ/ONbburBQIs8ke/TNSJUSZtZLdihbXyyCGVEXcfLdY53mo2JjLjzQqXxtXA== ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx1.freebsd.org; none Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4dJdrf4KD8zyp9 for ; Sat, 29 Nov 2025 18:25:38 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 5ATIPcrj056489 for ; Sat, 29 Nov 2025 18:25:38 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 5ATIPckp056488 for net@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 29 Nov 2025 18:25:38 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: net@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 290768] if_wg(4): handshake response has src and dst reverse Date: Sat, 29 Nov 2025 18:25:38 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Base System X-Bugzilla-Component: kern X-Bugzilla-Version: 14.3-STABLE X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: it@vineyard-sha.de X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: net@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated List-Id: Networking and TCP/IP with FreeBSD List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-net List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-net@FreeBSD.org MIME-Version: 1.0 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D290768 --- Comment #31 from relvy --- I have tested this patch [0] and with options INVARIANTS, INVARIANTS_SUPPOR= T, KASSERT_PANIC_OPTIONAL, KDTRACE_HOOS, KDTRACE_FRAME and DDB_CTF enabled. I've had crashes running realtek-re-kmod and realtek-re-kmod198 before, none of the switches seemed to help. After upgrading to from 14.3 to 15.0-RC4-p1, I thought I'd test again. So far so good, no crashes. Generating load with iperf for 5 minutes from 2 machines to the server works OK with the 1101.00 for now. Nice to have this if_rge in the back pocket when things don't work out with 1101.00. Started porting it, find the patch at https://brnrd.eu/bsd/patch-net_realtek-rge-kmod-20251129 Seeing that this is supposed to land in base, I'm holding back on committin= g it. Thanks all!
