I can cure this by shuffling the drives around so it picks a different one. However, if I don't I get a boot prompt: ---------------- BIOS drive C: is disk0 BIOS drive D: is disk1 BIOS drive E: is disk2 Can't find boot/zfsloader Can't find /boot/loader Can't find /boot/kernel/kernel FreeBSD/x86 boot Default: disk-1:/boot/kernel/kernel boot: Can't find /boot/kernel/kernel FreeBSD/x86 boot Default: disk-1:/boot/kernel/kernel boot: ---------------- There is NOTHING I can type to get out of this. I assume zfs:zroot/ROOT/current:/boot/zfsloader would be appropriate but it doesn't say this when I go back and RTFM. It defaults to trying to load disk-1:/boot/kernel/kernel, which is bonkers. I'm seriously wondering if the installer has dropped the wrong code there. The FM says of gptzfsboot: --- Normally    gptzfsboot will    boot in    fully automatic mode.    However,  like        boot(8),    it is possible to interrupt the    automatic boot process and in-        teract  with  gptzfsboot     through a prompt.  gptzfsboot accepts all the        options that boot(8) supports. --- In my experience today, it accepts NONE of the options that boot supports! I think I ought to be able to type a '?' and get a directory and so on. Does anyone have an explanation? Is there some proper documentation for this or am I going to have to reverse-engineer the source? Thanks, Frank. HAS_XAW(0.00)[] X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 4Z8D4k1Pgyz3MWT X-Spamd-Bar: / Hey there folks, At the dayjob we have some 16-port USB serial console expanders, and we = recently also plugged in the USB console for a Netgate firewall, which = lacks a traditional DE9 port, but instead has a USB micro port that = bridges to its own internal Prolific PL2032 port and presents a = usb-to-serial adapter there. (They also default to 115200, grr). Here=E2=80=99s the problem: after a reboot, the probe order changed, and = the netgate box became ttyU0. We need them to stay consistently ordered, i.e. such that the device = with a given USB ID will always turn out to be ttyU1, and the 16-port = pod that has 16 serials will always be ttyU1-ttyU16 (or vice versa). Is there something one can put in devfs.rules to enforce this, or = something that once can do to force a given device to be probed earlier = or later in the process? I imagine there=E2=80=99s a similar issue for USB ethernet devices and = the like. -Dan= From nobody Fri Mar 7 18:37:46 2025 X-Original-To: freebsd-questions@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4Z8Zm748zqz5pxXF for ; Fri, 07 Mar 2025 18:37:59 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from fernando.apesteguia@gmail.com) Received: from mail-io1-xd2d.google.com (mail-io1-xd2d.google.com [IPv6:2607:f8b0:4864:20::d2d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_128_GCM_SHA256 (128/128 bits) key-exchange X25519 server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) server-digest SHA256 client-signature RSA-PSS (2048 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "smtp.gmail.com", Issuer "WR4" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 4Z8Zm71v5Mz3ynw for ; Fri, 07 Mar 2025 18:37:59 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from fernando.apesteguia@gmail.com) Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; none Received: by mail-io1-xd2d.google.com with SMTP id ca18e2360f4ac-854a68f5a9cso166428239f.0 for ; Fri, 07 Mar 2025 10:37:59 -0800 (PST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20230601; t=1741372678; x=1741977478; darn=freebsd.org; h=cc:to:subject:message-id:date:from:in-reply-to:references :mime-version:from:to:cc:subject:date:message-id:reply-to; bh=fxDanzRcmblwTMLoEMC36QSggrRWlwd07v2rhRVhm9M=; b=d6JSmZuaHIVevp6ge9hQlwo7F7BQsbfKLV0kkYaKQBPoGl/4lWhltv+YYmBFlXiW6X 7kH9FFRNqAF4YbUTKB/KiiQvuOFHAqBRkMKOZOMHkWAmio2efl7W8cgUcLZyhZZtm7E7 soK1zf+Ji64Gylrjlqv0/bEXy9yzAplGBmmXElnJ2fuLAz+7aX4ojaLpEK6LH+idnlTr qbQpfnQiDJDGTpUExrnH9Cus5osYqnzd/PZ9aP4pY3x/qTrfT13UhHdobyLQQw/3BhPO uF9HmqRrKm9WnZYR3e7V9co9FQeYa1+4/5NfuqyP6YYRCKOMSE5pcWdPx3Du/rQD2KDP MGLw== X-Google-DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=1e100.net; s=20230601; t=1741372678; x=1741977478; h=cc:to:subject:message-id:date:from:in-reply-to:references :mime-version:x-gm-message-state:from:to:cc:subject:date:message-id :reply-to; bh=fxDanzRcmblwTMLoEMC36QSggrRWlwd07v2rhRVhm9M=; b=MIRCqIvTpboRCf1EJP0mzAAKNofqIjeegbseEvOHbzxUxslzRDqZRAPBUfD8oBhMpO ARM4KifvOis9hVuAcs5sc6pJytzQLCXFdLpR9PGgCaWLeCuqISUfFDzjpZ4K/3b+NxR5 zWLfJLk+JWltOpd+FyT4EPawDRWnaKKDNnRkOuGEnRdT5E5J1gvBFoGbvN6OTpP9Wyix CRaEOfnML10Vzs9fLwQwL5jY3SCSFGhydogP2CX77qwKBACal+Jf2dM+46NmrezA3y2a vKWsZEyqVjpUDqRBQrBfHfUyFvvvbrzlzdjitgMExqm7r9QG3wnqNXBhiva0lhHVGmRi 06KQ== X-Gm-Message-State: AOJu0Yw9bIGd9M0Ir2LpBdyAu0hvsMyS6aqotvlRUGAIS0ZqM8LT7Trm PzbK0rBdOuWwSw21wcFEB7wROiqR3cGWpX58eLKHV4kXHjEj7dXjzAm8QAww1R96jKPCmf1kGkl DzghSD/kdt8AoQb441AT9SdgtXFnGbw== X-Gm-Gg: ASbGncv742knRyjKtT0iAgUY+HBIcvWP/PN7/c70ZP/9vzuk9qVwnsv5+Orw0P5fVe1 rLtJ2YcwFRkY0JqEKaz9Vm4tGYcnDQqwdcmAxXADmUwqoDXw0SZCr31HL2cGNiZI5GrDxhd3Hq/ dGmOTOwFKJHdL1+/rJYdvAbj6R X-Google-Smtp-Source: AGHT+IG67T1eV6PaH2/rW5maHkdB2nlYcgiH6SKuLnom4qYWyluT2FnzzQTCCYcMM08m8JaKHVDVTTKX93014KMb4bg= X-Received: by 2002:a05:6602:728b:b0:85a:f617:37d9 with SMTP id ca18e2360f4ac-85b1cfd2101mr630258239f.8.1741372677832; Fri, 07 Mar 2025 10:37:57 -0800 (PST) List-Id: User questions List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-questions List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-BeenThere: freebsd-questions@freebsd.org Sender: owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.org MIME-Version: 1.0 References: In-Reply-To: From: =?UTF-8?Q?Fernando_Apestegu=C3=ADa?= Date: Fri, 7 Mar 2025 19:37:46 +0100 X-Gm-Features: AQ5f1Jpxhmuqu4ozFyC8l9Qdt00fqzqJLb0LScBv7TPnU4YZ-RdXg64Od2HeQe4 Message-ID: Subject: Re: Inactive link on project web site To: Pat Cc: freebsd-questions Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="000000000000e24556062fc4ebb7" X-Rspamd-Pre-Result: action=no action; module=replies; Message is reply to one we originated X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-4.00 / 15.00]; REPLY(-4.00)[]; TAGGED_FROM(0.00)[]; ASN(0.00)[asn:15169, ipnet:2607:f8b0::/32, country:US] X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 4Z8Zm71v5Mz3ynw X-Spamd-Bar: ---- --000000000000e24556062fc4ebb7 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On Thu, Mar 6, 2025 at 9:02=E2=80=AFPM Pat wrot= e: > Howdy! > > Not sure if this should be reported as a bug, or elsewhere.
