Easy to do, I've been ping ponging a system between 2 disks, use one to build on, then install it on the other, swap scsi id's and do it all over again. I'll have to take out my local /etc/make.conf hacks and do a ping, or err, is it a pong this time :-). I don't normally build profiled libs or compress the man pages. -- Rod Grimes rgrimes@gndrsh.aac.dev.com Accurate Automation Company Custom computers for FreeBSD From owner-cvs-user Sun May 21 10:34:09 1995 Return-Path: cvs-user-owner Received: (from majordom@localhost) by freefall.cdrom.com (8.6.10/8.6.6) id KAA23952 for cvs-user-outgoing; Sun, 21 May 1995 10:34:09 -0700 Received: from FileServ1.MI.Uni-Koeln.DE (FileServ1.MI.Uni-Koeln.DE [134.95.212.1]) by freefall.cdrom.com (8.6.10/8.6.6) with SMTP id KAA23943 ; Sun, 21 May 1995 10:34:05 -0700 Received: by FileServ1.MI.Uni-Koeln.DE id AA07135 (5.67b/IDA-1.5); Sun, 21 May 1995 19:33:45 +0200 Message-Id: <199505211733.AA07135@FileServ1.MI.Uni-Koeln.DE> From: esser@zpr.uni-koeln.de (Stefan Esser) Date: Sun, 21 May 1995 19:33:44 +0200 In-Reply-To: "Rodney W. The problem you and I talked about was properly assessing the root size including /stand, which wasn't accounted for in the previous size calculations. To decend below / entails a more complete implementation that actually takes a `du' type output of a virgin system and matches any given mountpoint to a minimum size, ala Solaris. All of that is something I'd like to do for 2.1, but is kinda overboard for 2.0.5. Seems that the NCR bios code deals with these drives just fine, I had to make sure that I did not have a gross problem and brought up DOS/Windows with this drive on the NCR controller and it was dealt with, no problems at all. I should send in my Chinnon ISV stuff so I can get the firmware docs to this drive. Also the drive runs fine and in *SYNC* mode on a BT445, so something is wrong in the NCR code. Fix a few bugs in the ftp installation code and implement proper ftp and network shutdown routines. 2. Clean up the menus a fair bit - add a FreeBSD configuration menu. 3. Eliminate the last of the "chaining" - the installation now does the most obvious thing in the most obvious cases and doesn't present you with more menus than you were expecting. This makes it necessary to be a little more explicit in places, but it's still less confusing. 4. Add a few more safety nets for the user. Change a few hard-and-fast limits to warnings (it now runs as non-root, Bruce). 5. Add descriptions for all the supported ethernet cards. 6. Make the cpio floppy extract put up a menu requesting the drive you wish to use if you have more than one; don't just always assume drive A. All hail the root floppy. Basically, this is just a simple name change. People were historically confused by the "cpio floppy", having no clear idea as to what it was (even if they knew what "cpio" stood for) given that the name gives one absolutely no indication as to what it's FOR. It's about as content free as calling it a "data floppy". Root floppy isn't much better, but it's got some historical weight (Linux divides their set into boot and root floppies) and is reasonably descriptive for a floppy that comprises the beginnings of a stand-alone root filesystem.
