If that is the problem, the easier solution is to edit /etc/sysconfig and set "tcp_extensions=NO". That will run a couple of "sysctl" commands in /etc/netstart to set the above two variables to zero. -- Mike Pritchard mpp@mpp.minn.net "Go that way. Really fast. What you'll have to do is allocate a 64k contiguous staging buffer and do the transaction from there. Since scatter/gather is handled at the controller driver layer, the rest of the SCSI system makes no assumptions about it use... it just happens that most transactions are to buffers that are not physically contiguous, so if you use DMA, you must have the staging buffer. I know we have some ISDN software under GPL, but it doesn't seem to be very well supported. I'm thinking about porting the ISDN package written by M. Ulrichs (?) for LINUX to FBSD, but I don't want to re-invent the wheel. ATT it's not clear whether the original author would be agreeable to having a port put under the BSD copyright (mostly 'cos no one has asked him yet). This is a streams based package, which means adding a minimal subset of streams to FBSD. The neat thing is that you can push modules onto the stream to support various services, e.g., login or slip (there's no ppp at the moment, but it's "being worked on"). There's a module which provides a minimal AT command set. Configuration is rather baroque, sort of like sendmail :-) The package has drivers for various ISDN cards popular in Germany, mostly passive cards, but there is one active card supported. There was a big write up in the July issue of iX (one of the better UN*X magazines in Germany). If there's sufficient interest I could prob. provide a translation of the relevant parts. Gary J. It looks like the aliases can't be ping'd from within the multihomed host, though, without either some magic route incantation, or perhaps fixing something. The real objective here is a multihomed eudora server; popper won't differentiate domains without the same trick that http needs, because of a simple fact that the protocol-originators never thought of... Sender: current-owner@FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk I generally have two filesystems mounted from my gateway machine, throck, to my main development box - time. Both machines run -current. All fine and dandy, except I recently changed throck's address info a bit so that it's gateway address (the ppp line) was jkh-gw and its "ethernet" address was throck. This makes it less confusing for me to deal with its dual presence in two subnets (naming it "throck" in both is greatly evil and causes OTHER problems with NFS and the order in which stuff is looked up in DNS, but I digress). ANYWAY, that's not the issue so much as that when I changed the name, the mounts no longer worked and the behavior exibited by NFS in the face of said failure is the "high weirdness" part. I know WHY it fails, but I don't think it should be failing in this particular way. To wit: root@time-> grep throck /etc/fstab throck:/usr /host/throck/usr nfs rw,tcp 0 0 throck:/cdrom /host/throck/cdrom nfs ro,tcp 0 0 root@time-> ls -l /host/throck/usr ls: /host/throck/usr: Permission denied Heh?! root@time-> ls -l /host/throck ls: usr: Permission denied total 2 drwxrwxr-x 2 root wheel 512 Jan 6 1995 cdrom !!! /host/throck/usr IS there, if I do: root@time-> mkdir /host/throck/usr mkdir: /host/throck/usr: File exists I get the expected result. But to not be able to even look at it as root? Hmmm! root@time-> ps ax | grep mount 86 ?? Is 0:00.11 mountd 5281 p5 S+ 0:00.03 grep mount Nope, no mount running against it, so I don't even have the easy explanation of the inode being locked somehow as the mount tries futilely to do it.. Any other explanation? That is two other people experiencing the same problem I am. Yeah! The problem has been around for awhile. In my experience it isn't actually every other. It is a timeout thing. Do your rsh/rlogin thing and get to the stage where you are about to do a rsh/rlogin you know is going to fail/timeout. Do a netstat -a on the destination machine, and you'll see near the beginning of the list one or two connections related to the rlogin/rsh you just exited. They/it will be in close/wait or some finish state. You will not be able to rsh/rlogin in again until those entries have finished up/timed out. If you wait for them to disappear before your next rsh/rlogin the attempt won't fail. Because of licensing? Or because of STREAMS being a bad word in many people's vocabulary? If the former, Joerg's post [supposedly] says that the licensing's not an issue. Probability of all OS authors give it up won't be here soon. As long as its only FreeBSD which does the right thing, but none of the other systems I need to keep running, it approximates null effect to me and I will keep adding if [ -x /usr/local/etc/rc.`hostname` ] then /usr/local/etc/rc.`hostname` fi to all my systems /etc/rc.local. Other than that, though, it works with my scheme to have empty rc.local, so I certainly don't mind cleaning it up. I guess it is hopeless to hope that *nothing* in root and usr would be user's configureable; all configuration would be in /usr/local hierarchy. This would eliminate need to back up configuration files and reinstalling them when doing a full reinstall (I always forget a couple of them; "ahem... what daemons was this one actually running..." :-). A little help has been gradually moving configurations to a single master machine and rdisting them to others, and not backing up the root and usr partitions. But this is clumsy, rdist won't work on all systems, and rdist has security problems. -- Heikki Suonsivu, T{ysikuu 10 C 83/02210 Espoo/FINLAND, hsu@cs.hut.fi home +358-0-8031121 work -4513377 fax -4555276 riippu SN From owner-freebsd-current Tue Aug 1 17:36:44 1995 Return-Path: current-owner Received: (from majordom@localhost) by freefall.cdrom.com (8.6.11/8.6.6) id RAA18256 for current-outgoing; Tue, 1 Aug 1995 17:36:44 -0700 Received: from time.cdrom.com (time.cdrom.com [192.216.222.226]) by freefall.cdrom.com (8.6.11/8.6.6) with ESMTP id RAA18249 for ; Tue, 1 Aug 1995 17:36:42 -0700 Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by time.cdrom.com (8.6.11/8.6.9) with SMTP id RAA01411; Tue, 1 Aug 1995 17:36:35 -0700 To: Jim Lowe cc: current@freebsd.org Subject: Re: pseudo-ttys/2.2-current In-reply-to: Your message of "Tue, 01 Aug 1995 14:32:22 CDT." <199508011932.OAA16510@miller.cs.uwm.edu> Date: Tue, 01 Aug 1995 17:36:35 -0700 Message-ID: <1409.807323795@time.cdrom.com> From: "Jordan K. That is to say, the ancient bugaboo for which I came under much fire with my "fix" for in config (that blows away your old /sys/compile/ directory unless you config -n or set NO_CONFIG_CLOBBER). If you config a kernel and leave it there, even after having done a depend, it will slowly rot as changes occur in /sys that don't force rebuilds of appropriate sources as they should. If everything was depended properly and config could also be taught to tweak /sys/compile/ correctly when options were just added or deleted, then we'd have a nice kernel build system that didn't require any directories to be blown away and I'd happily reverse the default behavior on config; it'd only blow it away if you ASKED it to. And no, I don't want to hear from those who's opinion is "reverse it now! why wait!" - I've already heard from you, and opinions I'm completely familiar with I don't really need to hear again.. :-) Jordan From owner-freebsd-current Tue Aug 1 22:33:55 1995 Return-Path: current-owner Received: (from majordom@localhost) by freefall.cdrom.com (8.6.11/8.6.6) id WAA11666 for current-outgoing; Tue, 1 Aug 1995 22:33:55 -0700 Received: from sequent.kiae.su (sequent.kiae.su [144.206.136.6]) by freefall.cdrom.com (8.6.11/8.6.6) with SMTP id WAA11658 for ; Tue, 1 Aug 1995 22:33:52 -0700 Received: by sequent.kiae.su id AA01114 (5.65.kiae-2 ); Wed, 2 Aug 1995 09:30:41 +0400 Received: by sequent.KIAE.su (UUMAIL/2.0); Wed, 2 Aug 95 09:30:40 +0300 Received: (from ache@localhost) by astral.msk.su (8.6.8/8.6.6) id JAA00395; Wed, 2 Aug 1995 09:25:42 +0400 To: current@freefall.cdrom.com, "Jordan K. Damn. What you say is true. Which of these two methoods of fixing this is better IYO? 1) In src/Makefile, target libraries:, move the "if exists (secure)..." bit to after the "if exists (lib)...". The evil here is that in the "if exists (lib)..." the non-secure libtelnet will be built , and wil then be clobbered by the secure libtelnet. 2) In src/lib/Makefile put "if defined(NOSECURE) && defined(NOCRYPT)/ .endif" around "CFLAGS+= libtelnet". 3) Both. This is Big Makefile (tm) stuff and I have not ventured this far before, so please check this and advise before I go ahead and fix. Ta! Take one slow net connection, one rlogin session that's got output spewing to it, type ^C. That rlogin connection is dead, no more, it will never come back. It is an ex-rlogin session. OOB data handling a little screwed, perhaps? Jordan
