Or do I need to move anything out of the way first? I would suggest installing it somewhere other than the default (/usr/X11R6/bin) first, and see how you like it. There's a script that comes with it that will do a decent job of converting your fvwm 1 rc file to fvwm2 format. I think I changed the script a little, though. (I didn't like the spacing in new rc file.) I've been running fvwm 2 for a couple of months now, it isn't too bad. One thing I don't like is that there doesn't seem to be any way to make the menus *not* sticky. IIRC, fvwm 1.24 had non-sticky menus by default, and I think there was a way to make them sticky. In fvwm 2, the default seems to be sticky, and I haven't figured out how to make them un-sticky by default. (if anyone knows how to do this, let me know. Otherwise, into the source I go....:) ) > Thanks. BTW, I don't have any interest in emulating Windows, so I think > I'll give fvwm95 a pass. Heh. I checked it out, even freaked out a few friends of mine who thought I'd finally cracked and installed Win95...:) I prefer plain fvwm a little more, but I'm sure that really fits the bill for some folks. This ususally works fine, but there are some ports (top, ssh, ...), which don't compile under -RELEASE. I think the -current-ports should work under the _latest_ release and if that is not possible, there should be a flag or something which says it is impossible to compile this port under -RELEASE, perhaps with a small explanation... I think the flag idea is not just a bad idea - this issue has come up before, and Satoshi usually makes the fair point that if he had to try and track ports changes between both 2.2 and in 2.1-R, he'd go insane. Setting a flag which says "this only works in release blah or later" might be a nice compromise. Maybe a regexp which matches against the output of `uname -r', so you can get fancy if you've got a port which runs against a truly select set of releases. You will have to make some changes to 'patch-ag' so that the path to gmp-1.3.2/gmp.h doesn't get changed twice. >From what I remember, gmp is part of the core distribution in 2.1-stable & 2.2-current but not part of 2.1-Release, so you'll have to make some changes. Anyway the arms embargo against ZA was lifted, and articles of death/war may legally be {im|ex}ported to/from here now, so Spice should not be a problem. The only illegal ammunition now is crypto code (dig, dig) :-). Good news is our teTeX ports, in ports/print, is real complete, and very well integrated. I suggest you install that one and try again (ports/print/teTeX, NOT ports/print/tex). > > -josh > ========================================================================== Chuck Robey chuckr@eng.umd.edu, I run FreeBSD-current on n3lxx + Journey2 Three Accounts for the Super-users in the sky, Seven for the Operators in their halls of fame, Nine for Ordinary Users doomed to crie, One for the Illegal Cracker with his evil game In the Domains of Internet where the data lie.
