Hey, is this about the same as my "SONY SMO-C501-09 KG 2.13" type 0 removable SCSI 1? Hmm, but the above information does rather look suspicious. It seems the driver got it wrong, it identified you medium as being a 600 MB one. Since this information comes from the drive, i would basically trust it. Are you sure your drive can handle 1.3GB media? (Mine cannot.) The drive is a good candidate for the `od' driver, btw. Our kernel cannot handle media with 1024 bytes per physical sector yet, in particular ufs falls over. I've got patches sitting in my queue for too long, from the author of the `od' driver, to fix this, but i haven't had the time to review them. If you promise to send me a failure or success report, i could send them to you. Be warned however: it will be some work, and you will have to run a -current kernel in order to experiment this (most likely, that is). -- cheers, J"org joerg_wunsch@uriah.heep.sax.de -- http://www.sax.de/~joerg/ -- NIC: JW11-RIPE Never trust an operating system you don't have sources for. ;-) From owner-freebsd-scsi Thu Apr 4 08:34:24 1996 Return-Path: owner-freebsd-scsi Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) id IAA08721 for freebsd-scsi-outgoing; Thu, 4 Apr 1996 08:34:24 -0800 (PST) Received: from neon.Glock.COM (neon.glock.com [198.82.228.159]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.3/8.7.3) with ESMTP id IAA08716 Thu, 4 Apr 1996 08:34:20 -0800 (PST) Received: (from mmead@localhost) by neon.Glock.COM (8.7.5/8.7.3) id LAA08194; Thu, 4 Apr 1996 11:32:50 -0500 (EST) From: "matthew c. mead" Message-Id: <199604041632.LAA08194@neon.Glock.COM> Subject: Re: Archive Anaconda Tape drive 1.35GB && Adaptec 1542CF To: mmead@neon.Glock.COM (mmead) Date: Thu, 4 Apr 1996 11:32:50 -0500 (EST) Cc: joerg_wunsch@uriah.heep.sax.de, freebsd-scsi@freebsd.org, rjk@sparcmill.grauel.com, jmb@freefall.freebsd.org In-Reply-To: from "mmead" at Mar 30, 96 07:06:20 pm X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4 PL24 ME8a] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-scsi@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk mmead writes: > J Wunsch writes: > > As Jonathan M. Will this cause my entire SCSI bus > > that tape drive is connected to to function as a SCSI 1 bus, or > > does my SCSI-IIF drive on that bus still have the advantages of > > SCSI-IIF??? Thanks for any information! I'm still a little curious about this... anyone know? -matt -- Matthew C. This is on a FreeBSD -stable system from today's kernel sources. When I run 'ls -R /cd/0' and 'ls -R /cd/1' simultaneously. One of them always reports an error: fts_read: input/output error. If they do manage to both start I soon get (it rebooted to quickly to write down verbatim): ncr0:0:0.. unit attention ncr0:6:0.. reset, power on.. ncr0:6:1.. reset, power on.. I see the same 'fts_read' message with an Adaptec 1742. I'll try it on an Adaptec 1542 as well next. If that yields the same results I think I'll send the drive back to the factory to be serviced. (fsf 2 vs fsf 1) why do you have to use 2 in place of one. the paramter is the number of files to space over the the forward direction. fsf 0 does not move teh tape. i sent a detailed description of the drive to freebsd-hackers (or was it questiosn?) around march 13th. it does not yet appear in the search results on hte www.freebsd.org web page ;(. there is a copy in my home directory on freefall ~jmb/anaconda. i can mail out copies to those that are interested.
