try nonSMP kernel, one of our nfs server crashed with smp kernel
1-3 times a day and work fine with nonSMP kernel:

12:13ÐÐ  up 25 days, 19:57, 26 users, load averages: 0.22, 0.32, 0.27
	    ^^^^^^^ 3.0-971012, with SMP it crashed
