I looked through the web page when I first *ordered* the FreeBSD cd's and book from Walnut Creek. If there had been a complete list of companies and individuals in the Austin area I could have called, I'd have been a really happy guy. All I found was a single isp that never called me back. If I had my wish, there would be a link to a zillion companies and individuals. I'd like to see it indexed by: * location (state/city) * what kind of company they are (isp/consulting/whatever/individual) * name. I'd even like to see it put on the BSD-DOCS cd so for that period of time after I loaded FreeBSD and *before* I got it working enough to get back on the internet I would still have had access to the list. Also, I'd want this list as complete as possible. When I've seen lists like this (I'm on one in the Pascal arena), they try to limit the people listed. You know, only the big companies or the 'recognized' consulting companies, etc. I'd rather have all 100 people in the Austin area listed and make lots of calls than only one or two that might not return my call/email. >The above link is invalid. A friend of mine - who is involved in the FreeBSD project (his name is Ollivier Robert) told me that there are some people who look for a french translation of the FreeBSD FAQ. I planned this project a lot of months ago, but now, I have sufficient time to spend on it. I just want to inform you that I will begin the translation this week-end, and I hope that the first draft will be finished in a couple of weeks. For the moment, I only have a little problem to use french accentuated letters (éà) with linuxdoc, but when this problem is solved, I will begin the work. By the way, does anybody on the freebsd-doc mailing list know how to include accents in a linuxdoc paper ? I will use the FAQ from FreeBSD-current fetched on the 29 Dec. I suscribed on the doc mailing list so that I can know if there are new releases of the FAQ during my translation, and to keep it in sync with the 'official' paper. And when this is done, I will try the handbook :-) -- Sylvain Nierveze - sn@penelope.frmug.org From owner-freebsd-doc Fri Jan 3 21:58:07 1997 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.8.4/8.8.4) id VAA01085 for doc-outgoing; Fri, 3 Jan 1997 21:58:07 -0800 (PST) Received: from who.cdrom.com (who.cdrom.com [204.216.27.3]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.8.4/8.8.4) with ESMTP id VAA01038; Fri, 3 Jan 1997 21:58:02 -0800 (PST) Received: from mexico.brainstorm.eu.org (root@mexico.brainstorm.fr [193.56.58.253]) by who.cdrom.com (8.7.5/8.6.11) with ESMTP id VAA04667 ; Fri, 3 Jan 1997 21:32:07 -0800 (PST) Received: from brasil.brainstorm.eu.org (brasil.brainstorm.fr [193.56.58.33]) by mexico.brainstorm.eu.org (8.8.4/8.8.4) with ESMTP id GAA01510; Sat, 4 Jan 1997 06:31:01 +0100 Received: (from uucp@localhost) by brasil.brainstorm.eu.org (8.6.12/8.6.12) with UUCP id GAA30499; Sat, 4 Jan 1997 06:31:03 +0100 Received: (from roberto@localhost) by keltia.freenix.fr (8.8.4/keltia-uucp-2.9) id BAA13806; Sat, 4 Jan 1997 01:44:50 +0100 (CET) Message-ID: Date: Sat, 4 Jan 1997 01:44:49 +0100 From: roberto@keltia.freenix.fr (Ollivier Robert) To: sn@penelope.frmug.org (Sylvain Nierveze) Cc: pds@FreeBSD.ORG, freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: French translation of FAQ References: <199701032143.WAA04103@penelope.frmug.org> X-Mailer: Mutt 0.55.15 Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Operating-System: FreeBSD 3.0-CURRENT ctm#2837 In-Reply-To: <199701032143.WAA04103@penelope.frmug.org>; from Sylvain Nierveze on Jan 3, 1997 22:43:52 +0100 Sender: owner-doc@FreeBSD.ORG X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk According to Sylvain Nierveze: > I will use the FAQ from FreeBSD-current fetched on the 29 Dec. > I suscribed on the doc mailing list so that I can know if there > are new releases of the FAQ during my translation, and to keep > it in sync with the 'official' paper. To be really in sync, you'll need to subscribe to the "cvs-share" mailing-list. That way, every commit to src/share/ (including the FAQ) will also be sent to you. Send a mail to majordomo as usual to subscribe. You'll have to either subscribe to CTM (to receive patches automatically) or to retrieve regularly the FAQ from any FreeBSD-current mirror. -- Ollivier ROBERT -=- The daemon is FREE! -=- roberto@keltia.freenix.fr FreeBSD keltia.freenix.fr 3.0-CURRENT #33: Sat Dec 21 12:57:17 CET 1996 From owner-freebsd-doc Fri Jan 3 22:06:00 1997 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.8.4/8.8.4) id WAA03517 for doc-outgoing; Fri, 3 Jan 1997 22:06:00 -0800 (PST) Received: from who.cdrom.com (who.cdrom.com [204.216.27.3]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.8.4/8.8.4) with ESMTP id WAA03482; Fri, 3 Jan 1997 22:05:52 -0800 (PST) Received: from fallout.campusview.indiana.edu (fallout.campusview.indiana.edu [149.159.1.1]) by who.cdrom.com (8.7.5/8.6.11) with ESMTP id QAA02963 ; Fri, 3 Jan 1997 16:46:59 -0800 (PST) Received: from localhost (jfieber@localhost) by fallout.campusview.indiana.edu (8.8.4/8.8.4) with ESMTP id TAA04747; Fri, 3 Jan 1997 19:45:32 -0500 (EST) Date: Fri, 3 Jan 1997 19:45:31 -0500 (EST) From: John Fieber To: Sylvain Nierveze cc: pds@FreeBSD.ORG, freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG, roberto@keltia.freenix.fr Subject: Re: French translation of FAQ In-Reply-To: <199701032143.WAA04103@penelope.frmug.org> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8BIT Sender: owner-doc@FreeBSD.ORG X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk On Fri, 3 Jan 1997, Sylvain Nierveze wrote: > For the moment, I only have a little problem to use french > accentuated letters (i`) with linuxdoc, but when this problem > is solved, I will begin the work. Two ways to choose from: 1) Just use the ISO 8859-1 character set which includes the necessary accents for French. 2) Use entity references. For example ö == ö. A complete list of the entity names can be found in the files /usr/share/sgml/ISO/ on 2.2+ FreeBSD systems. > I will use the FAQ from FreeBSD-current fetched on the 29 Dec. > I suscribed on the doc mailing list so that I can know if there > are new releases of the FAQ during my translation, and to keep > it in sync with the 'official' paper. Another way is to periodically check http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/share/doc/FAQ. Here you can easily retrieve the latest version of the FAQ in SGML source form, and view the complete revision history. -john From owner-freebsd-doc Fri Jan 3 22:08:02 1997 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.8.4/8.8.4) id WAA02793 for doc-outgoing; Fri, 3 Jan 1997 22:03:44 -0800 (PST) Received: from time.cdrom.com (time.cdrom.com [204.216.27.226]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.8.4/8.8.4) with ESMTP id WAA02765 for ; Fri, 3 Jan 1997 22:03:39 -0800 (PST) Received: from time.cdrom.com (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by time.cdrom.com (8.8.4/8.6.9) with ESMTP id WAA24990; Fri, 3 Jan 1997 22:03:34 -0800 (PST) To: Ade Barkah cc: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Can someone fix this ? re: ftp3.uk.freebsd.org In-reply-to: Your message of "Fri, 03 Jan 1997 11:45:57 MST." <199701031845.LAA12141@hemi.com> Date: Fri, 03 Jan 1997 22:03:33 -0800 Message-ID: <24985.852357813@time.cdrom.com> From: "Jordan K.
