I think this is an excellent tool for information since it allows a user to diagnose a wide variety of problems. Since this is one of the primary sources of information about FreeBSD, many users including me, spend a lot of time reading articles. So, I request you to change the background colour of the mailing archive to grey so it is less strenous on the users' eyes. The web browser cannot use a preffered background colour if the web page is requesting a specific colour. However if a user preffers to view the archive with a white background, they can tell the browser to do so. (If the web page does not request a specific colour, grey(default) or another chosen colour is set for the background.) Your assistance in this manner is greatly appreciated. Thanks Amandeep Singh. Is your site listed but appearing way down on the hit list "out of sight" despite perfect keyword matches? If the answer to either of these questions is "yes" then you need to order a copy of Did-it's Search Engine Secrets. In this comprehensive report we tell you exactly how to design or modify your html to improve the position your site appears on search results listings. We do this by exposing the hidden logic used by the engines to determine search relevancy. Here's just a sample of the inside information revealed in "Did-it's Search Engine Secrets:" Alta Vista - References first 30 words on page for description unless you use META TAGS. Alta Vista determines the priority of matches by indexing the words closest to the beginning of the front page. Infoseek Indexes the first 200 characters of your site after the HTML tag unless you use META TAGS in the creation of your site. Your description can include up to 200 characters of text. The Lycos engine compares each page to your query and gives higher scores to pages that contain the words as you typed them into your Web Site. It also looks for pages that mention these words early on, rather than far down. Yahoo searches for words in URL, title & description (<25 words) YOU ENTERED when submitting URL! Webcrawler - Webcrawler computes its confidence rating by considering how many times the terms in your search occur in that document. The more frequent, the more relevant. Even if you utilized any or all of the above suggestions, I'm sure your results would improve. You can imagine if you employed ALL of the more than 100 secrets revealed in our report, how much your site traffic would benefit. And if you've already been listed on the engines, you should still make the changes because they continually reindex all their sites and your changes will take effect! The Did-it Search Engine Secrets report cost only $49.95 and comes with a full, 30-day, moneyback, satisfaction guarantee! So don't delay. Particulary for people who might be interested in running P200+ Cyrix chips at 150MHz on the 75MHz bus speed (only choice really). Obviously running a 207.5MHz processor on a 83MHz board is going to be faster than a 200MHz processor on a 66MHz board. Might be nice to mention that reliability might (will?) go down though. Hope that helps... -Mike Mark Mayo wrote: > > I'm still not clear exactly what a 'DTD' is though.. time to truck over to > the book store and see what's available under the SGML topic (John also > recommeded some good SGML books, that I'll be looking for) :-) > > -Mark From owner-freebsd-doc Sat Apr 19 10:10:56 1997 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) id KAA26595 for doc-outgoing; Sat, 19 Apr 1997 10:10:56 -0700 (PDT) Received: from mushi.colo.neosoft.com (qmailr@mushi.colo.neosoft.com [206.109.6.82]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) with SMTP id KAA26589 for ; Sat, 19 Apr 1997 10:10:53 -0700 (PDT) Received: (qmail 17615 invoked from network); 19 Apr 1997 17:10:19 -0000 Received: from bonkers.neosoft.com (HELO bonkers.taronga.com) (root@206.109.2.48) by mushi.colo.neosoft.com with SMTP; 19 Apr 1997 17:10:19 -0000 Received: (from peter@localhost) by bonkers.taronga.com (8.6.11/8.6.9) id MAA17228; Sat, 19 Apr 1997 12:08:18 -0500 Date: Sat, 19 Apr 1997 12:08:18 -0500 From: peter@taronga.com (Peter da Silva) Message-Id: <199704191708.MAA17228@bonkers.taronga.com> To: borjamar@sarenet.es, doc@freebsd.org Subject: Re: FAQ translation Newsgroups: taronga.freebsd.doc In-Reply-To: <3358AA5E.2781E494@sarenet.es> Organization: none Sender: owner-doc@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk In article <3358AA5E.2781E494@sarenet.es> you write: > However I'm a bit lost. Sender: owner-doc@FreeBSD.ORG X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk I have a suggestion for the documentation which now seems to be available only in post script. It would be extremely helpful if these documents could be made available in plain text format, or some other ascii format. The reson for this is, many people with visual impairments can ot access a post script document, but can read an ascii file, either plain ascii, or html. An example of one of these documents is the document in the tutorial section, dealing with FreeBSD device driver writing. If you have any questions or comments for me, my E-mail address is: phall@gate.net Thank you for your time, and for the many other accessable documents. phil From owner-freebsd-doc Sat Apr 19 23:29:31 1997 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) id XAA07582 for doc-outgoing; Sat, 19 Apr 1997 23:29:31 -0700 (PDT) Received: from mail.konnections.com (mail.konnections.com [192.41.71.11]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) with ESMTP id XAA07576 for ; Sat, 19 Apr 1997 23:29:28 -0700 (PDT) Received: from castle (root@ip204.konnections.com [192.41.71.204]) by mail.konnections.com (8.8.3/8.8.3) with SMTP id AAA24137; Sun, 20 Apr 1997 00:28:35 -0600 (MDT) Message-ID: <335B15D4.3D8CC70A@konnections.com> Date: Mon, 21 Apr 1997 00:23:00 -0700 From: mike allison Organization: Publisher -- Burning Eagle Book Company X-Mailer: Mozilla 3.0 (X11; I; Linux 2.0.0 i486) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Philip Hall CC: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: post script docs in plain text?
