No way. Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk I downloaded the boot.flp and fdimage.exe from two different versions of the system. 2.2.2 and 2.1.7.1 I think from the FTP site. Problem is, fdimage keeps saying the image is BIGGER than the 1.44 mb disk. And it's right. We can't make a bootable test / system check type disk from these images on a 1.44 mb floppy. It just won't fit. So either the WEB page is wrong and these images are intended for 2.88 mb floppies, or there is an image which could be had which will INDEED fit on a 1.44 mb disk. 2.1.7.1 was just 4k over sized. 2.2.2 was double that oversized. I can't make a test disk with those oversized images so I will never be able to tell if my system hardware is compatible. Who can I contact about this? Tommorrow is another day for me. I've already logged my first 2 hours of playing around with Free BSD. I'm getting to feel like an expert already, expecially at FTP use. HA! The following diff does this update. I ask the (handbook) commiters to review it, make appropriate changes (if needed) and then finally commit these changes into the handbook. Thank you. I can't tell ya how happy I would be if you started a Freebsd Journal. jamesw From owner-freebsd-doc Sat Aug 23 08:40:06 1997 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.7/8.8.7) id IAA21915 for doc-outgoing; Sat, 23 Aug 1997 08:40:06 -0700 (PDT) Received: from punt-1.mail.demon.net (punt-1c.mail.demon.net [194.217.242.136]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.7/8.8.7) with SMTP id IAA21873; Sat, 23 Aug 1997 08:40:01 -0700 (PDT) Received: from ragnet.demon.co.uk ([158.152.46.40]) by punt-1.mail.demon.net id aa1120152; 23 Aug 97 16:06 BST Received: (from dmlb@localhost) by demon.co.uk (8.8.5/8.8.6) id QAA05847; Sat, 23 Aug 1997 16:02:59 +0100 (BST) Message-ID: X-Mailer: XFMail 1.1 [p0] on FreeBSD Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit MIME-Version: 1.0 Date: Sat, 23 Aug 1997 15:59:14 +0100 (BST) From: Duncan Barclay To: freebsd-announce@freebsd.org, freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Subject: ANNOUNCE: mynews, inn+suck primer and set-up utilities Sender: owner-freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk # # $Id: ANNOUNCE,v 1.1 1997/08/16 22:53:07 dmlb Exp $ # Announcing mynews ================= mynews is a set of scripts and instructions for setting up a small news-server using inn-1.5.1 and suck-2.6.2 on FreeBSD-2.2.2 mynews is intended for people with a small number of machines and users (e.g. at home) who do not have a "real" NNTP feed. Author ====== mynews was written by Duncan Barclay, dmlb@ragnet.demon.co.uk Versioning and Availability =========================== mynews has not yet got an official home, the incoming directory at ftp.freebsd.org contains the most recent copy: ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/incoming/mynews-0.1.tar.gz The current version is 0.1 and I haven't decided where to store the tag in the distribution. History ======= mynews grew from my notes as I was struggling to set up inn-1.5.1 and suck-2.6.2 when I got a dial-up Internet account. As I found that the majority of the documentation was just too confusing for someone with no experience of running a news server (although I have been looking after various *nix boxes for a few years) I have put together mynews for other people to use. Future Work =========== mynews will track changes in the inn and suck as and when they get reflected into the stable (not -current) releases of FreeBSD. I will also take on board comments from any one who uses mynews, and would welcome suggestions/comments from experienced news administrators on ways of making this set-up work more smoothly etc. The current version number of 0.1 reflects the fact that this is the first release of mynews. I have been using mynews for about three months now and it seems to be stable. Version 1.0 will be released when (and if) mynews becomes more integrated with the FreeBSD ports/packages collection.
