The unusual character of the new mail-archive collection has exposed
a long-standing bug in CVSup. If any of you are trying to get this
new collection, I'd advise you to give up until I'm able to get
out a new release to fix the problem.

The problem comes from the fact that a few of the files in the
collection are both very large (> 100 MB) and very frequently
updated on the master host hub.FreeBSD.org. The worst offenders are
freebsd-hackers and freebsd-questions.

Currently, cvsupd does a stat() to determine the size of the file
when sending it for the first time. Then it sends the indicated
number of bytes. For these huge files, it takes a long time.
Often, the files have received new messages during the transfer,
making them longer. Cvsupd notices this after it's sent the "whole"
file according to the information it got from stat. It complains
that the file grew on the server, and proceeds to try to recover in
the worst possible way.

I know how to fix this and will make a new release as soon as I
can. Meanwhile, don't bother trying to use the new collection.
I would disable it entirely, but Jordan is using it to keep wcarchive
up to date. It's got a high speed link to freefall and the files
transfer very quickly, so the problem isn't so serious for that
particular application.
