I never thought about the OS version number in the python port. Does that mean we need PLIST-${OSVERSION} now? Or pkg-${OSVERSION}/ which takes precedence over pkg/ if it exists? A variable in which spits out ${OSNAME}${OSMAJORVERSION}.${OSMINORVERSION}-${MANUFACTORER}-${ARCHITECTURE}? More %-variables for pkg_create? These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The report has been examined by a team member and evaluated. f - feedback The problem has been solved, and the originator has been given a patch or a fix has been committed. The PR remains in this state pending a response from the originator. s - suspended Work on the problem has been postponed. This happens if a timely solution is not possible or is not cost-effective at the present time. The PR continues to exist, though a solution is not being actively sought. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested. Can't you just provide GNU configure with an argument of "freebsd--i386" (ahemmm ...: shouldn't that be "i386--freebsd" ???) and thus make the directory name come out the same independently of the FreeBSD release ? However, what about the IS_INTERACTIVE or NO_PACKAGE ports? At least one (ucd_snmp) did not build as shipped on the 2.2 CDROM. I don't think that's acceptable; if it doesn't build it should be marked BROKEN. I realize that it's a lot to expect Satoshi to run through each IS_INTERACTIVE port and answer the questions right, but maybe this is a burden we can place on the port maintainers -- before a release, make absolutely sure that your port builds on that release or it gets marked BROKEN. Any comments? I would need some more patches because the automatic LDFLAGS-detection fails. Anyway, there'd have to be some kind of architecture-dependent PLIST. I'd prefer to install the shared objects into lib/python1.4. This has the nice side-effect that it's actually the standard place where other extensions like NumPy are also looking for support files. tg From owner-freebsd-ports Tue May 13 09:30:03 1997 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) id JAA27907 for ports-outgoing; Tue, 13 May 1997 09:30:03 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) id JAA27901; Tue, 13 May 1997 09:30:02 -0700 (PDT) Resent-Date: Tue, 13 May 1997 09:30:02 -0700 (PDT) Resent-Message-Id: <199705131630.JAA27901@hub.freebsd.org> Resent-From: gnats (GNATS Management) Resent-To: freebsd-ports Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats@FreeBSD.ORG, Brian Handy Received: from lambic.space.lockheed.com (lambic.space.lockheed.com [192.68.162.69]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) with ESMTP id JAA27815 for ; Tue, 13 May 1997 09:28:55 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from handy@localhost) by lambic.space.lockheed.com (8.8.5/8.8.5) id JAA05083; Tue, 13 May 1997 09:28:48 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <199705131628.JAA05083@lambic.space.lockheed.com> Date: Tue, 13 May 1997 09:28:48 -0700 (PDT) From: Brian Handy Reply-To: Brian Handy To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.ORG X-Send-Pr-Version: 3.2 Subject: ports/3589: New port: bclock-1.0 Sender: owner-ports@FreeBSD.ORG X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk >Number: 3589 >Category: ports >Synopsis: New port: bclock-1.0 >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: low >Responsible: freebsd-ports >State: open >Class: change-request >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Tue May 13 09:30:01 PDT 1997 >Last-Modified: >Originator: Brian Handy >Organization: Montana State University >Release: FreeBSD 2.2-STABLE i386 >Environment: FreeBSD-2.2-STABLE >Description: This is a port of bclock, a mutated version of oclock that uses a bezier curve for the hands. You need to get a recent version of the tiff libraries. The one in ports wont work. For some reason the configure script set most of the options to YES. You need to take -lmalloc out of Makefile and add -lcompat. Here is my ports.h. I forgot what tweaks I needed to do. -David Langfod langfod@dihelix.com /* * Warning, this file was automatically created by the HylaFAX configure script * VERSION: v4.0pl1 * DATE: Thu May 1 16:54:00 HST 1997 * TARGET: i386-unknown-freebsd2.2 * RELEASE: 2.2-STABLE * CCOMPILER: /usr/bin/gcc-2.7.2 * CXXCOMPILER: /usr/bin/gcc-2.7.2 */ #ifndef _PORT_ #define _PORT_ 1 #ifdef __cplusplus extern "C" { #endif #define CONFIG_OPENFIFO O_RDONLY #define CONFIG_TIOCMBISBYREF yes #define ONDELAY_NOSTDINDUP #define CONFIG_MAXGID 60002 #include #include #define HAS_OSFCN_H 1 #define HAS_SELECT_H 1 #define fxSIGHANDLER (sig_t) #define fxSIGVECHANDLER (sig_t) #define fxSIGACTIONHANDLER (sig_t) #define HAS_MMAP 1 #define HAS_SYSCONF 1 #define HAS_ULIMIT 1 #define HAS_GETDTABLESIZE 1 #define HAS_FCHOWN 1 #define HAS_FCHMOD 1 #define HAS_TM_ZONE 1 #define HAS_NETERRNO_H 0 #define HAS_MKDEV 0 #define HAS_LOCALE 1 #include #define HAS_MODEM_H 0 #define HAS_TERMIOX 0 #define HAS_LOGWTMP 1 int logwtmp(const char*, const char*, const char*); #define HAS_LOGOUT 1 int logout(const char*); #define HAS_UTMPX 1 #define HAS_UTEXIT 1 #define HAS_EXIT_STATUS 1 #define HAS_TXCD 0 #define HAS_CRYPT_H 0 #ifdef __cplusplus } #endif #endif From owner-freebsd-ports Wed May 14 04:47:52 1997 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) id EAA21233 for ports-outgoing; Wed, 14 May 1997 04:47:52 -0700 (PDT) Received: from ds1.gl.umbc.edu (ds1.gl.umbc.edu [130.85.3.11]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) with ESMTP id EAA21225 for ; Wed, 14 May 1997 04:47:48 -0700 (PDT) Received: from snedley (ppp-050.dialup.umbc.edu [130.85.97.50]) by ds1.gl.umbc.edu (8.8.5/8.6.9) with ESMTP id HAA22747 for ; Wed, 14 May 1997 07:47:46 -0400 (EDT) Message-ID: <3379A434.6E0@gl.umbc.edu> Date: Wed, 14 May 1997 07:38:28 -0400 From: Snedley X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.0b2 (Win95; I) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: ports@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: missing files X-Priority: 3 (Normal) Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Sender: owner-ports@FreeBSD.ORG X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk When I invoke emacs I get the message cant find file libgcc.a Do I need to build anything or can I set a link or what do I do?? Well, I included the uuencoded-gzipped-tarball on the end of this PR, so you just could have grabbed it from there and dropped it in your system. Alternatively, other people put their ports up on anonymous FTP on Freefall or somewhere else, usually announced somewhere in the pr. (This is my experience anyway.) So this is one way you can grab a port if it's interesting to you. If you have patience, it will eventually wind up in the tree. This isn't a critically important port, so I don't think I expect to see it in today... :-) If you've got deeper problems, or there's a particular port you're looking for, feel free to send me an email off-line. Basically, "sysctl -n > kern.osreldate" is all you need. That's the OS date. I'm thinking of the version of bsd.port.mk that they have. Example: The changes for the INSTALL_ macros, or the man page compression, or the upcoming (I hope) DEPENDS_TARGET stuff. A certain port is always failing because it requires these new features. In the specific port makefile, the maintainer can check BSD_PORT_MK_REL to see if they can expect the features to be there, and tailor their install depending on the result. That way people who just sup ports and never get updates to stuff in /usr/share/mk will not be able to make new ports, but will be told "Time to Upgrade!" This could also be done as a Makefile.inc in the top level ports/ directory. What I'm thinking of is something where Makefile.inc has this : .if( ${BSD_PORT_MK_REL} < ${BSD_PORT_MK_REL_REQ} ) echo "You don't have the required version of bsd.port.mk. Please" echo "grab version ${BSD_PORT_MK_REL_REQ}." .endif In the port's Makefile, you'd put # # $Id$ # BSD_PORT_MK_REL_REQ= 1997051600 .include .include <../../Makefile.inc> Would that work ? -- j. Whoever sups ports and doesn't get the latest /usr/share/mk (or better yet, my "2.2-stable quick upgrade kit") should be shot. Aren't there big warning signs everywhere (like in the ports page)? * In the port's Makefile, you'd put * BSD_PORT_MK_REL_REQ= 1997051600 I'm against this change. The latest ports available by sup/ftp require, by default, the latest bsd.port.mk. There really is no reason why we should go out of our way, adding that line to every single Makefile that uses a new feature of bsd.port.mk, to tell people what is stated over and over in our documentation and is so easy to "fix". (The version of the system itself is a different story, as that can't be so easily changed. That's why we go out of our way to support "top" and others.) What we should do, IMO, is to make sure people understand that they need the latest bsd.port.mk to have any chance with the latest ports. I noticed it is not stated prominently in the handbook's "ports" section, I will change that. The proposed fix is 99% correct, but it will fail sometimes because of the way the Modula-3 garbage collector works. The string passed to mkfifo() will at times be in a protected page of VM, causing the system call to fail with EFAULT. The proper fix will require adding a wrapper for the system call to the Modula-3 runtime library, to ensure that the needed pages are accessible at the time the system call is made. I wanted to say that if it was also in the /usr/ports directory no-one could complain about bsd.port.mk related brokenness - they would just have to copy it over every time after sup-ing. But wouldn't it require changing either a) make, gmake, etc. to look for included files without a path there or b) changing all the ports to include it from there. This also means that we presume /usr/ports to be the directory the person is using. I realize that a symlink to wherever they are storing it works, but it's just another step that will be missed by some. -- j. What I meant is just keeping a copy of the bsd.port.mk file in the "root" directory of the ports (which for some people is /usr/ports). It would make it real easy for people to copy it over to the right place (/usr/share/mk) or make /usr/share/mk/bsd.ports.mk a link to the one in the directory they sup/cvsup ports to. Sander PS. That makes sense. Basically, so that when someone says "It doesn't work!" we can say "Copy /usr/ports/bsd.port.mk over to /usr/share/mk" instead of "Well, you have to learn how to CVsup so that you can get a newer copy of bsd.port.mk". Well, actually, if we added (hmm, I haven't tested it, just theoretizing) a rule to the bsd.port.mk .if defined(CHECK_BSD_PORT_MK) /usr/share/mk/bsd.port.mk: ${PORTSDIR}/bsd.port.mk install ... ${PORTSDIR}/bsd.port.mk /usr/share/mk/bsd.port.mk .endif Where CHECK_BSD_PORT_MK is a variable defined by default in /etc/make.conf If something like make world has already updated it, we don't care. If not, just replace it. There are also other issues connected to this: 1) building ports as a user with no write access to /usr/share/mk the person has to manually undef it in the Makefile. 2) the right place of bsd.port.mk is in the source tree 3) it won't work before people have updated their /etc/make.conf Sander > > -- > j. > > From owner-freebsd-ports Sat May 17 15:10:08 1997 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) id PAA17151 for ports-outgoing; Sat, 17 May 1997 15:10:08 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) id PAA17135; Sat, 17 May 1997 15:10:06 -0700 (PDT) Resent-Date: Sat, 17 May 1997 15:10:06 -0700 (PDT) Resent-Message-Id: <199705172210.PAA17135@hub.freebsd.org> Resent-From: gnats (GNATS Management) Resent-To: freebsd-ports Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats@FreeBSD.ORG, xaa@stack.nl Received: from terra.stack.nl (terra.stack.nl [131.155.140.128]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) with ESMTP id PAA16789 for ; Sat, 17 May 1997 15:04:18 -0700 (PDT) Received: from xaa.stack.nl (uucp@localhost) by terra.stack.nl (8.8.5) with UUCP id AAA17315 for FreeBSD-gnats-submit@freebsd.org; Sun, 18 May 1997 00:04:14 +0200 (MET DST) Received: (from root@localhost) by xaa.stack.nl (8.8.5/8.8.2) id AAA11799; Sun, 18 May 1997 00:03:58 +0200 (MET DST) Message-Id: <199705172203.AAA11799@xaa.stack.nl> Date: Sun, 18 May 1997 00:03:58 +0200 (MET DST) From: xaa@stack.nl Reply-To: xaa@stack.nl To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.ORG X-Send-Pr-Version: 3.2 Subject: ports/3614: xboard 3.6.1 update Sender: owner-ports@FreeBSD.ORG X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk >Number: 3614 >Category: ports >Synopsis: Upgrade for port >Confidential: no >Severity: non-critical >Priority: medium >Responsible: freebsd-ports >State: open >Class: change-request >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Sat May 17 15:10:02 PDT 1997 >Last-Modified: >Originator: Mark Huizer >Organization: >Release: FreeBSD 3.0-CURRENT i386 >Environment: >Description: port upgrade (games/xboard) >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: diff -udr /usr/ports/games/xboard/Makefile ./Makefile --- /usr/ports/games/xboard/Makefile Wed May 14 23:06:31 1997 +++ ./Makefile Sat May 17 23:45:16 1997 @@ -6,8 +6,8 @@ # $Id: Makefile,v 1.10 1997/05/11 17:08:23 markm Exp $ # -DISTNAME= xboard-3.6.0 -PKGNAME= xboard-3.6.0 +DISTNAME= xboard-3.6.1 +PKGNAME= xboard-3.6.1 CATEGORIES= games MASTER_SITES= ${MASTER_SITE_GNU} diff -udr /usr/ports/games/xboard/files/md5 ./files/md5 --- /usr/ports/games/xboard/files/md5 Wed May 14 23:06:34 1997 +++ ./files/md5 Sat May 17 23:58:24 1997 @@ -1 +1 @@ -MD5 (xboard-3.6.0.tar.gz) = 62fb0ba462e24237b17d82fcf6b25b87 +MD5 (xboard-3.6.1.tar.gz) = 0582929df6c3dd2e5b080a29c649d0e8 >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-ports Sat May 17 17:44:16 1997 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) id RAA21734 for ports-outgoing; Sat, 17 May 1997 17:44:16 -0700 (PDT) Received: from time.cdrom.com (root@time.cdrom.com [204.216.27.226]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) with ESMTP id RAA21729; Sat, 17 May 1997 17:44:13 -0700 (PDT) Received: from time.cdrom.com (jkh@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by time.cdrom.com (8.8.5/8.6.9) with ESMTP id RAA27991; Sat, 17 May 1997 17:44:42 -0700 (PDT) To: Bill Fenner cc: asami@vader.cs.berkeley.edu (Satoshi Asami), committers@FreeBSD.ORG, ports@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: Ports freeze tomorrow at midnight In-reply-to: Your message of "Sat, 17 May 1997 10:21:19 PDT." <97May17.102130pdt.177489@crevenia.parc.xerox.com> Date: Sat, 17 May 1997 17:44:42 -0700 Message-ID: <27987.863916282@time.cdrom.com> From: "Jordan K.
