I know these programs don't require X, but when I install them as packages from /stand/sysinstall, they complain about needing libXext.so.6.1 when I run them. Installing them as ports, some (like ytalk) insist that they need X11 installed for them to compile. Others (like emacs) will compile. My machine is a headless box that will never run graphics; I just thought I ought to bring this point up so you might put up an appropriate warning for those ports that can't be fixed, and possibly look into a fix for those which can be fixed...? Thanks-- I appreciate it! If trying to rdist site-start.el to a machine which does not have /usr/local/share/emacs/site-lisp directory yet, I get: innopoli7-gw.espoo.clinet.fi: /usr/local/share/emacs/site-lisp/site-start.el: installing innopoli7-gw.espoo.clinet.fi: innopoli7-gw: REMOTE ERROR: /usr/local/share/emacs/site-lisp -> /usr/local/share/emacs/site-lisp/site-start.el: rename failed: Not a directory I checked that it does make all missing directories except site-lisp. This seems to be generic, always the last directory component is left out. I the directory is created manually rdist6 proceeds fine. Older rdist versions do not seem to exhibit this bug. The problem probably lies in server.c, but I could not find a version which would have any changes in this area. These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The report has been examined by a team member and evaluated. f - feedback The problem has been solved, and the originator has been given a patch or a fix has been committed. The PR remains in this state pending a response from the originator. s - suspended Work on the problem has been postponed. This happens if a timely solution is not possible or is not cost-effective at the present time. The PR continues to exist, though a solution is not being actively sought. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested. Actually, what happened is the overrideredirect flag is now being set incorrectly. The person who changed this is on vacation. However, I decided just to remove all dependencies on the overrideredirect flag from this file. Tk8.0 has explicit types for menus, so this flag is not needed to distinguish a tearoff from a non-tearoff. Our enigmatic distfile friend "expect.tar.gz" now contains expect-5.24 at the master site - a version said to be compatible with Tcl/Tk v8.0. Great, but it no longer builds from our port, so... I have hacked together a port of this which is flawed and needs help. The first issue is that our Tcl v8.0 port doesn't apparantly install the private headers (i.e. /usr/local/include/tcl8.0/generic/tclInt.h, etc.) I haven't researched the issues there, but expect needs it, so if you are going to play with this port, copy by hand the generic dirctory from the tcl8.0 distribution into the path above. Issues with my port: -When running the install rule, pkg_mkIndex is run in /usr/local/lib and leaves pkgIndex.tcl there. Probably trivial to fix. Unfortunaly this file is empty because its creation fails with: error while loading or sourcing libexpect524.so.1.0: invalid command name "X" (X is an unprintable character) -They want to: /usr/bin/install -c -o bin -g bin -m 644 \ /usr/local/include/tcl8.0/generic/tclRegexp.h /usr/local/include which violates our attempt to keep tcl versions separate. I'd say, just do nothing and let the programmer put the -I compiler directive as it should be. Aside from these problems, the port builds and installs and appears at least trivially to work. The old port used four patches to modify two files; I changed that to one patch per file. So I had to wait till I could afford to build a second that I can crash without i affecting others. Now my problem is, and please excuse me for being THICK, how do I get FreeBSD to allow connections to the mud? I am running FreeBSD 2.2.1 on an Intel 486SX33 with 8M connected to my main machine via ethernet. Situation: compiled DGD & lpmud from the ports/net/dgd & ports/net/dgd-lpmud I have run ./runlpmud -& from /usr/local/dgd and I note that a couple of processes have started, hname 6047 & driver -lpmud.dgd Connecting: When I try to telnet to the mud (zurix.apana.org.au = 202.12.89.126) on the port specified in the lpmud.dgd config file 2000 the system refuses the connection. Ok so maybe I am using the wrong tool to connect to the mud? So I compiled and tested the tinyfague mud client and that worked ok on the Albion mud. Doesn't work with zurix :( Attempts to fix: So I thought it maybe in the services config file in /etc so I added an entry for dgd; dgd 2000/tcp #lpmud dgd 2000/udp #lpmud and did a Kill -1 1 but this has not changed anything :( Request: Could you point me in the right direction to kick this thing, & get it going. Best regards, Mike (Ratty) -------
