  • 16-May-97 FreeBSD 2.2.2-RELEASE has been released. The Release Notes can provide more information. This release will also be the basis for the upcoming FreeBSD Desktop/Pro product, a release which includes budled software from Xi Graphics, Inc., for desktop users. Stay tuned for more information.

  • 12-May-97 A 3.0-Current SNAP-of-the-day server has been established at ftp://current.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/. A 3.0-SNAPshot will be generated daily, and old SNAPshots will be kept for a minimum of one week.

  • 20-Feb-1997 FreeBSD 2.1.7-RELEASE is now available. Read the README.TXT file or the Release Notes for more information.

  • 10-Feb-1997 FreeBSD 3.0-970209-SNAP has been released. Read the README.TXT file for more information about this release.

  • 06-Feb-1997 A serious security problem affecting FreeBSD 2.1.6 and earlier systems was found. The problem has been corrected within the -stable, -current, and RELENG_2_2 source trees. As an additional precaution, FreeBSD 2.1.6 is no longer available from the FTP distribution sites. You can read more about the problem and solution from the FreeBSD-SA-97:01.setlocale security announcement.

  • 06-Feb-1997 The final pre-release version of FreeBSD 2.2-GAMMA, is now available. The README.TXT file has more information.

  • 05-Feb-1997 The administrative position of FreeBSD Project President has been eliminated with the resignation of former president Jordan K. Hubbard.

  • 02-Feb-1997 A snap-of-the-day server has been set up for the most current snapshot release of FreeBSD 2.2. Read the README.TXT file for more information.

I try "MEGAHERTZ" instead of Megahertz at the beginning it doesn't work too. I think these two model are similar to each other. Hope that you could add support for this modem. I also want to know if FreeBSD Desktop/Pro will comes with Accel-X which support hardware acceleration of Compaq QVision 1024/E with 2MB RAM. Accel-X from Xi Graphics. Xi currently claims that it does not support the hardware acceleration for this VGA card. I did not know this information is valid or not. Until the dust settles, please do not commit anything to either the FAQ or the handbook (both english and japanese). The move is being done because these documents are generally not release specific so maintaining them on multiple CVS branches has been nothing more than a needless hassle. Looking into the crystal ball, moving these things out of the "make world" process removes the requirement that the SGML processing tools be part of the source tree. More specifically, improvements HTML generation and a conversion from Linuxdoc to DocBook will be greatly expidited by a switch from the current sgmls/instant combination to jade (a DSSSL processor). New tools will be avaialble in port/package form at which point the existing SGML tools in the src tree will be removed. I had hoped to get more testing done and have it up and running by now, but various delays have cropped up. -john
