You can see it at %http://www.freebsd.org/~meganm/data/ Nifty, indeed. I do have a couple of comments: - IMHO, the pages might look a little better if there is some sort of visual division between the page information and the
information at the bottom. Perhaps an
down there, or another copy of the menu bar? - The Menu Bar is missing the FreeBSD Gallery (it's in the text menu at the bottom.) - The front page seems somewhat too busy. I'm of the persuasion that the first page should be a brief introduction to the site and an index of everything that the site has to offer. Just my opinion--what does the rest of the list think? The reason why I'd like that is the following: =46rom work, I can't FTP out to the world, I can only request files via HTTP. Of course I can access FTP servers this way, but the instance that translates my FTP request to HTTP tries to guess the content type from the extension. Unfortunately, it thinks that scontrib.cc is a C++ source file (hence, text) and translates it to \r\n-terminated lines :-( = Actually, I don't think I'm the only one having this trouble. With http (and a properly configured HTTP server), there would be no problem. If you do follow my suggestion, please make sure that all distribution files are marked as application/octet-stream. My thoughts exactly, although I wouldn't mind it on the "about this server" page. Some time ago there was a powered logo wheche the eyes on the daemon blinked every three seconds or so. That was subtle enough that I wouldn't have minded it, but the file was quite large. -john From owner-freebsd-www Sat Jun 7 01:45:42 1997 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) id BAA06605 for www-outgoing; Sat, 7 Jun 1997 01:45:42 -0700 (PDT) Received: from bsd.fs.bauing.th-darmstadt.de (bsd.fs.bauing.th-darmstadt.de [130.83.63.241]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) with ESMTP id BAA06600 for ; Sat, 7 Jun 1997 01:45:39 -0700 (PDT) Received: from campa.panke.de (anonymous216.ppp.cs.tu-berlin.de [130.149.17.216]) by bsd.fs.bauing.th-darmstadt.de (8.8.5/8.8.5) with ESMTP id KAA16373; Sat, 7 Jun 1997 10:45:35 +0200 (MET DST) Received: (from wosch@localhost) by campa.panke.de (8.8.5/8.6.12) id KAA00853; Sat, 7 Jun 1997 10:28:33 +0200 (MET DST) To: Martin Ibert Cc: www@freebsd.org Subject: Re: FreeBSD distribution as http:// References: <33967CD7.7E824B6D@ppe.bb-data.de> From: Wolfram Schneider Date: 07 Jun 1997 10:28:30 +0200 In-Reply-To: Martin Ibert's message of Thu, 05 Jun 1997 10:46:15 +0200 Message-ID: Lines: 17 Sender: owner-freebsd-www@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk Martin Ibert writes: > would it at all be feasible to make the FreeBSD distribution available > via HTTP (in addition to FTP)?
