Generally, the handling of non-alphanumeric characters is suboptimal and could be considered a bug, but a bug in design, not implementation. I have read through much of your information and understand that your UNIX system runs on a PC. I would like to know (before I read further or attempt the download) if our office would need a "technical support person" to operate this system. I have attempted to have the courseware package WebCT loaded to our university UNIX system but have been unable to get the agreement of the systems administrators because of their security concerns about WebCT and because I do not have a technical background. I am charged with creating on-line courses and have been greatly stymied by the inability to get WebCT downloaded. Please let me know how technical I need to be to use your operating system to run WebCT. I am certainly willing to learn what I need to know, but do not have a technical training background. While it certainly does not take a rocket scientist to operate a Unix system, it does require a reasonably large degree of determination on the part of any beginner who wishes to become reasonably facile with it. This is not to say that Unix is particularly complex, it's simply designed with much more of a "toolbox" approach than, say, a Windows or Macintosh systems which tries instead to give you canned applications which, in many cases, actually discourage customization. To aid in you learning Unix administration are many good introductory books commonly available in technical book stores. See section 24 of the FreeBSD handbook at http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/handbook.html; "Unix in a nutshell", "What You Need To Know When You Can't Find Your UNIX System Administrator" and "UNIX System Administration Handbook. 2nd ed" being entries in the bibliography section which get my personal recommendation. As long as you have a PC to dedicate to FreeBSD's installation, the actual installation should also be fairly straight-forward. See the installation docs on our web site or purchase a copy of "The Complete FreeBSD" from Walnut Creek CDROM (http://www.cdrom.com) if you prefer printed documentation on this topic. Good luck! I only update the master copy, the mirrors often very slow to catch up, and thus the version on ftp.freebsd.org remains the definitive reference. > Today www.freebsd.org was a bit slow so I tried one of the mirrors. I look at this as simply a quote from Mark Hittinger, who BTW is no longer even with WinNet having left at least a year ago for another ISP (Netcom, I believe). 2. I also fail to see why distributing the Usenet Cancel Engine is somehow equivalent to directly hosting spammers, as ISPs like AGIS do. What's the big deal with that? And who the hell is Mike Enlow, anyway? I've never even heard of the guy so he can't be *that* important. :) Jordan From owner-freebsd-www Fri Nov 7 22:30:08 1997 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.7/8.8.7) id WAA19576 for www-outgoing; Fri, 7 Nov 1997 22:30:08 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-www) Received: from time.cdrom.com (root@time.cdrom.com [204.216.27.226]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.7/8.8.7) with ESMTP id WAA19518 for ; Fri, 7 Nov 1997 22:28:34 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from jkh@time.cdrom.com) Received: from time.cdrom.com (jkh@localhost.cdrom.com [127.0.0.1]) by time.cdrom.com (8.8.7/8.6.9) with ESMTP id WAA24496; Fri, 7 Nov 1997 22:27:35 -0800 (PST) To: root@cs.riubon.ac.th cc: www@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: Mirror Site in North-East of Thailand In-reply-to: Your message of "Sat, 08 Nov 1997 13:13:34 +0700." <3464030E.36C518FD@riubon.ac.th> Date: Fri, 07 Nov 1997 22:27:35 -0800 Message-ID: <24491.878970455@time.cdrom.com> From: "Jordan K.
