Try enabling it in /etc/rc.conf. If you use version < 2.2 you have to recompile the kernel with Linux option (see LINT) Additionally you must install package linux_lib-2.6. These are linux libraries needed for starting linux binaries. And if you use freebsd compiled in elf - you need brandelf command to mark these linux elf binaries exactly as Linux ones. I tried oracle 8.0.5, but I couldn't make it run properly. After the initial messages almost all the binaries coredumped. If you find the reason - let me know. --ian To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-database" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-database Tue Dec 1 16:33:06 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id QAA13346 for freebsd-database-outgoing; Tue, 1 Dec 1998 16:33:06 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-database@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from candle.pha.pa.us (s5-03.ppp.op.net [209.152.195.67]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id QAA13317 for ; Tue, 1 Dec 1998 16:32:34 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from maillist@candle.pha.pa.us) Received: (from maillist@localhost) by candle.pha.pa.us (8.9.0/8.9.0) id SAA07094; Tue, 1 Dec 1998 18:27:41 -0500 (EST) From: Bruce Momjian Message-Id: <199812012327.SAA07094@candle.pha.pa.us> Subject: Re: [HACKERS] Re: Mysql 321 - Mysql 322 - msql In-Reply-To: <1747.912185625@sss.pgh.pa.us> from Tom Lane at "Nov 27, 1998 11:53:45 am" To: tgl@sss.pgh.pa.us (Tom Lane) Date: Tue, 1 Dec 1998 18:27:41 -0500 (EST) Cc: pgsql-hackers@postgreSQL.org, database@FreeBSD.ORG X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4ME+ PL47 (25)] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-database@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk > I don't currently have any databases that could benefit from full-text > indexes. Oracle for Linux are using glibc and which has improved ELF support, and in FreeBSD 2.2.7 Release linux emulation code didn't support that. You are need a 3.0 Release (3.0 Current is prefered) or try using now released 2.2.8. With best regards, Vladimir N.Silyaev. Last I heard it didn't even run in 3.0. Something to do with IPC via pipes being broken under emulation. Incidentally, Sybase has an apparently similar problem with the backup server. The data servers communicate via shared memory which works fine, but the backup server forks an I/O daemon which communicates with a pipe. That link fails. -john To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-database" in the body of the message
