My system boots up successfully from the floppy and I am presented with three options: 1. Skip kernel configuration and continue with the installation 2. Start kernel configuration in full screen visual mode 3. Start kernel configuration in CLI mode I select the second option and configure the kernel: Floppy at IRQ6 (default - not edited) IDE hard drives at IRQ 14 and 15 (default - not edited) Sony CDROM at IRQ 5 address 0x340 (I do edit the default settings to these values) PS/2 Port mouse IRQ 12 I remove all the network devices, no network card on my system I keep all the COM and LPT ports, except LPT2. The IRQs COM1 - IRQ 4 COM2 - IRQ 3 LPT1 - IRQ7 I keep all the PCI devices because it won’t let me delete them. I then select "Q" to save and quit. The system spins the floppy for a second and then hangs! So I don’t know if the new kernel has been written to the disk (I doubt it). When I reset/reboot the system, it boots from the floppy and searches for and tries to load drivers for devices I remove previously. When I select option 2 again, I see the original kernel choices. This leads me to believe their is a problem? (Nope, my mom didn’t raise no fool!) My system is a P-133 from Gateway with 32MB of RAM and the hardware described earlier (obviously). I know you have just released FreeBSD v2.2.6 but this version should work also. What should I do? Should I just select option 1 and just follow the Novice installation and hope for the best? Any help would be greatly appreciated. (The small booklet that came with the CDROM is not much help. It assumes that everything is going to work… Thanks, William wmanning@flash.net To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-doc Wed Apr 29 04:30:04 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id EAA03679 for freebsd-doc-outgoing; Wed, 29 Apr 1998 04:30:04 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id EAA03610; Wed, 29 Apr 1998 04:30:02 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats) Received: from mail.yk.rim.or.jp (root@mail.yk.rim.or.jp [202.247.130.37]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id EAA02164 for ; Wed, 29 Apr 1998 04:21:30 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from k-horik@yk.rim.or.jp) Received: from localhost (ppp126.yk.rim.or.jp [202.247.134.126]) by mail.yk.rim.or.jp (8.8.5/3.4Wbeta6-rim1.1) with ESMTP id UAA15692; Wed, 29 Apr 1998 20:21:27 +0900 (JST) Message-Id: <19980429202113Y.k-horik@yk.rim.or.jp> Date: Wed, 29 Apr 1998 20:21:13 +0900 From: horikawa@jp.freebsd.org Reply-To: horikawa@jp.freebsd.org To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.ORG X-Send-Pr-Version: 3.2 Subject: docs/6454: In tzfile.5, tzfile.h does not exist, and tzh_timecnt is misused. "setup \ir" from the cdrom drive will reinstall win95 without trashing the boot manager. [At a minimum with the version I'm running plus a handfull of others] This was undocumented when revealed by a netscape rep who got it who knows where (but I think a friendly ms rep) back when the installation of ms explorer trashed 95 & had to be reinstalled on my machine. It worked, and has worked for more than a few on freebsd-questions.
