I wanted to have a go at debugging the problem myself, but I've never worked in the kernel before. All I know is that a *lot* of things that work OK in userland get rather harder in the kernel. One small problem I've encountered is that I can't persuade sppp to log anything to kern.debug in this environment. Thankfully it just worked first time with my ISP without needing to debug PPP connection stuff but since there is an OpenBSD port (thanks!), I presume that there is at least one other person on this list using i4b-00.63-alpha-100798 + OpenBSD (2.3?). Does anyone else have experience of sppp logging working on OpenBSD? The ISAC-TE can only use IOM-2, your ISAC could also be used in IOM-1 mode. You can find out what mode is used if you look at the clocks: IOM-1 uses 512 kHz, IOM-2 something around 1.7 MHz IIRC. (If you don't have the ISAC/HSCX docs or don't know how to figure out whether IOM-1 or IOM-2 is used, I could have a look in my docs - they're available at www.siemens.de, btw.) The differences between a 2086 and a 2186 donīt matter. It is however a difference whether you have a 82525 or 21525 HSCX, the first one being the HSCX-TE IIRC. If you have a HSCX-TE, IOM-2 is used. If you have a "full" HSCX, IOM-1 could also be used. Forget what I wrote about timing, too ... If you can measure the clock frequency: * DCL (pin 12 at ISAC if P-LCC-44) is a 512 kHz output in IOM-1 mode * DCL is a 1536 kHz output in IOM-2 mode The clock chip you found on the board is always the same. No. - The ISAC comes out of the reset condition with interupts enabled - 68k interupts are level interupts. so, if you didn't somehow block the interupts, the first person calling you on the same S0 bus after reset, but before the driver is installed, would freeze the machine. Now, the HSCX RTS output is guaranteed to be at 0 level after a reset, and is not needed for ISDN applications. So, if you don't want to add additional hardware to an otherwise very small board (its 4 chips, and the s0 transformer circuitry), it seems very natural to me to abuse that one. Btw: from browsing the other backends (hm... I think Teles S08 was one), I noticed that some other boards have special reset circuitry, too... only they use additional hardware. The patches document that they work on 1.3.1. I wonder, is there a new package on its way that patches 1.3.2? If not, will the patches for 1.3.1 work on 1.3.2? If not... Is where do I start to make my own patches for 1.3.2? (or at least what do I have to change in the code?). Sorry if this has been asked recently on this list, I joined the list about a week ago. Also, I live in Norway, are there any reports of special problems from norwegian telephone systems? I have several cards named "Dynalink TA" (very cheap passive card), will there be support for this? (Can I contribute? - I guess I would need some time learning some concepts). I also have some Digi Datafire S/T active cards - same question... The Dynalink IS64PH is supported for FreeBSD, in case this is similar or equal to your Dynalink TA card, it would be relatively easy to add support for them under NetBSD. Currently no active card is supported by i4b mostly due to lack of time, the Digi Datafire S/T is definitely unsupported until someone adds support for it to i4b. In case you add some driver to i4b and need help, just ask! hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis Tel +49 40 559747-70 HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH Fax +49 40 559747-77 Oldesloer Strasse 97-99 Mail hm@hcs.de 22457 Hamburg WWW http://www.hcs.de To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Wed Aug 5 09:27:15 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id JAA12151 for freebsd-isdn-outgoing; Wed, 5 Aug 1998 09:27:15 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from ns1.yes.no (ns1.yes.no [195.119.24.10]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id JAA12140 for ; Wed, 5 Aug 1998 09:27:09 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from eivind@bitbox.follo.net) Received: from bitbox.follo.net (bitbox.follo.net [195.204.143.218]) by ns1.yes.no (8.8.7/8.8.7) with ESMTP id QAA05269; Wed, 5 Aug 1998 16:26:52 GMT Received: (from eivind@localhost) by bitbox.follo.net (8.8.8/8.8.6) id SAA23765; Wed, 5 Aug 1998 18:26:52 +0200 (MET DST) Message-ID: <19980805182651.62246@follo.net> Date: Wed, 5 Aug 1998 18:26:51 +0200 From: Eivind Eklund To: Harald Bjoroy Cc: freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: i4b NetBSD 1.3.2 References: Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Mailer: Mutt 0.89.1i In-Reply-To: ; from Hellmuth Michaelis on Wed, Aug 05, 1998 at 04:19:57PM +0200 Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Wed, Aug 05, 1998 at 04:19:57PM +0200, Hellmuth Michaelis wrote: > > Also, I live in Norway, are there any reports of special problems from > > norwegian telephone systems? > > Not that i know of. It works over my test-line, but I can't guarantee anything for a random ISDN line in Norway - the phone company has been doing a lot of weird stuff on some lines. It is really noticable with bisdn (*but not on my test-line*); I hope it will be less of a problem with i4b. I haven't deployed it on any line that has had problems yet, though - those lines are running TAs. If you (any person that reads this) _have_ problems and are located in Norway, please contact me. I have it running on a Win98 machine, but would like to move it into my FreeBSD 2.2.7 box. I have installed ISDN4BSD, alpha 0.63. I have added the contents of CONFIG to my kernel config file. I have uncommented the appropriate options and device isic0 lines. Basically the problem seems to be with the detection of the card. It would appear that the port addresses supported by i4b are different then the ones supported via my card. Can anyone lend me a hand? I'm quite new to this, and not quite as experienced as you guys perhaps are. According to the config program that came with my card, it's currently set to port 0x300, IRQ 5. Later it stopped in the file "layer1/i4b_avm_a1.c". I haven't got the exact error, but was something like functions declared static on line 97, 98, 99 and 100 were all declared but not defined. When I looked into the code, these were prototypes for other os'es than FreeBSD for PCMCIA, so I just commented it out, and everything seemed to compile well. The build ended nicely with a "netbsd" kernel file. Now, when I try to boot from this file the following message ends at my screen: (typed in so look for typos...) extent_alloc_region: extent `ioport' (0x0 - 0xffff) extent_alloc_region: start 0x10180, end 0x10187 panic: extent_alloc_region: region lies outside extent Stopped at _Debugger+0x4: leave db> Is this just me? I know sometimes I specify 0x180 and other times 0xd80 (?) for this card, I haven't seen 0x10180 before... The only mod I did to the config file from the installation instructions, was that I changed the IRQ to 15 (from 12?), since I have an old 486 style PC with IRQ 15 free, but with 11 in use for my SCSI adapter and 12 for my PS/2 mouse port. What to do? Where to look? (Still an infant on this, but I'm a fast learner ;-) ). Thanks, Harald. I get decent througput, although I jumpered the board to IPL 2 (instead of 6, which the AmigaOS software uses) at least on 68060/50 MHz. I guess I shoudl clean up the attachment, and send the Amiga changes in. I noticed two problems: a) some state machine problem (or some data gets lost), closing connections. Ive seen this with both ipr and isppp interfaces. See at end for logfile. b) my impression is, that somewhere there is an infinite FIFO. WHen I did y ping -f test, I got 400 kBytes buffered in MBUFs before I interupted ping, which were afterwards transmitted, received, reflected and received again. c) I'm a bit confused about how sync ppp handles interfaces up and down and dialing. (looked like dialing immediately, and downing the interfaces when hanging up the line due to inactivity). I guess I need to read some documentation more closely? d) the command window for hanging up a line doesn't react to any keystroke I could identify. Just leaves the cursor after the last line it offers. e) I had something like this at the last test, when I tried to hang up the sppp via isdnd's command window: Aug 6 23:37:10 jocelyn isdnd[1134]: ERR sendm_disconnect_req: ioctl I4B_DISCONNECT_REQ failed: Invalid argument Aug 6 23:37:10 jocelyn isdnd[1134]: ERR sendm_disconnect_req: ioctl I4B_DISCONNECT_REQ failed: Invalid argument Aug 6 23:37:10 jocelyn /netbsd: i4b-L4-i4bioctl: I4B_DISCONNECT_REQ ioctl, cdid not found! See at end for logfile. As i said in an earlier mail, this are the same problems arising when using isdntest to call yourself and are caused by the inner layers of i4b not being decoupled by message queues. This will not go away until someone converts the design from synchronous function calls to asynchronous message queues (which is major undertaking). > b) my impression is, that somewhere there is an infinite FIFO. The FIFO is finite. For the ipr tx interface it is 50 mbufs fast queue plus 50 mbufs slow queue plus 50 mbufs send queue plus 50 mbufs hscx tx queue.
