Would you send me your filter > file for my BJC 210 ? I don't have a BJC 210, so cannot tell what the driver is. In general, the unix handles pure text and postscript printer well, but not other type printers, like BJC 210. You may take one more step to print ASCII on your BJC 210 printer; that is, converting ASCII to postscript; then perform the ps printing procedure. I forget what is the command for doing ASCII to postscript conversion. It is associated with "imprint" command in psutils package if My memory is still correct. Would someone tell us what is the command? If you could NOT find it, you may try to use "magicprint" we are using. This is more powerful tools which can print images, text, and combine them into a book. It is in the CCS package whcih is available at ftp://george.lbl.gov/pub/ccs/ccs-2.1.tgz Read the README.* as you needed. CCS is a simgle command installation package powered by ACS (AutoConfiguration System) which very easy for dummys. You may install it by use default which builds everything in current-dir/ccs-lib.2.1/$ARCH/{bin, lib, man, ...} When you are comfortable with it, you may change the DESTROOT, decribed in README.ccs:223 and ACS/readme.acs, to wherever you want to. -Jin To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hardware Tue Jun 15 13:46:15 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from traveler.e-scape.net (sentry.e-scape.net [207.245.48.254]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 10C75155FE for ; Tue, 15 Jun 1999 13:46:03 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from stefanos@traveler.e-scape.net) Received: by traveler.e-scape.net (NX5.67e/NX3.0M) id AA03595; Tue, 15 Jun 99 16:44:27 -0400 Message-Id: <9906152044.AA03595@traveler.e-scape.net> Content-Type: text/plain Mime-Version: 1.0 (NeXT Mail 3.3 v118.2) In-Reply-To: <199906152024.NAA18106@george.lbl.gov> X-Nextstep-Mailer: Mail 3.3 (Enhance 2.0b5) Received: by NeXT.Mailer (1.118.2) From: Kiakas Date: Tue, 15 Jun 99 16:44:26 -0400 To: freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: Canon BJC-210 Reply-To: stefanos@traveler.e-scape.net References: <199906152024.NAA18106@george.lbl.gov> Sender: owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org You wrote: > I don't have a BJC 210, so cannot tell what the driver is. > In general, the unix handles pure text and postscript printer well, > but not other type printers, like BJC 210. > You may take one more step to print ASCII on your BJC 210 printer; > that is, converting ASCII to postscript; then perform the ps printing > procedure. > > I forget what is the command for doing ASCII to postscript conversion. > It is associated with "imprint" command in psutils package if My memory > is still correct. I am bringing back into service two 486DXs that have been pushed out of desktop use by newer machines. Both of these have Sony CDROMs with the proprietary interface. On one, I clobbered the old M$ OS without checking how devices were configured. I learned my lesson and checked on the second beforehand. I have been unable to 'find' the CDROM on the first machine. The GENERIC default is to 0x230, but that does not work. The second machine has the CDROM at 0x340 (the value I looked up before I messed with it), and it seems to work fine. I've tried a variety of settings and moved jumpers around, but no luck with such a Monte Carlo approach. The card for the CDROM has four sets of jumpers on it (JP1-JP4). I was told by a very helpful person on -questions that JP4 specified the port address. He said the unjumpered value was 0x300, and one can then set the address 0x300 to 0x3f0. However, the kernel default for these devices is 0x230, outside of that range. In addition, the machine working at 0x340 is unjumpered[0]. Does anyone have experience with these things? Anyone have a pointer to some documentation about these drives (the Sony website has DOS/Windoze drivers, no docs about jumpers I could find)? BTW, the card attached to the problem machine is labeled COR334. Thanks for help or pointers in the right direction. [0] The four jumpers on each card were configured exactly alike. Noting set except for position 2 on JP1 (which my helper told me was the DMA jumper). -- Crist J. The only way I was aware, to get the old Sony's to work (if they didn't have either the SCSI or ide interfaces, mind) was to get an old soundblaster card (or most of the clones( which had the interface on it), and that would work fine. ----------------------------+----------------------------------------------- Chuck Robey | Interests include any kind of voice or data chuckr@picnic.mat.net | communications topic, C programming, and Unix. 213 Lakeside Drive Apt T-1 | Greenbelt, MD 20770 | I run picnic and jaunt, both FreeBSD-current. Disks overheating? Or dying? Or something else? Hard to say what's wrong, although it might help to send the above errors, and the full dmesg output from the machine, to the freebsd-scsi list. It also looks like you haven't included all of the errors. The top line from your log above is just a partial error message. There are any number of things that could be wrong, but the most common problems are cabling or termination problems and drive firmware bugs. I've been on the hunt for the perfect motherboard to replace my old P133 FreeBSD machine which is pretty much on it's last leg. I've been using an Asus P5A for my girlfriend's Photoshop/HTML machine which uses an ALi Alladin V chipset. The Asus P5A is a great board with alot of nice features and utilizes the low cost AMD K6-2 chip, but I heard that the ALi chipset isn't supported by FreeBSD as far as Ultra DMA/33 is concerned. I have heard that the VIA chipsets are supported in respect to Ultra DMA/33. First of all, I'd like to know if all the above is correct (that which concerns FreeBSD and the mentioned chipsets). Also, I'd like to know if the SiS chipsets are supported by FreeBSD in respect to Ultra DMA/33. Which motherboards would you recommend based on chipset? I'd like to get the best performance out of my DMA/33 hardrives. I know SCSI would be a better way to go, but I can't really afford a complete SCSI subsystem. :( Thanks for you help!
