Check, if your configuration for idletime settings is reasonable. Especially check idletime-(outgoing|incoming), earlyhangup and your configured unitlength. If in doubt, read the handbook or the isdnd.rc(5) man-page, all you need to know is described there. In case the kernel part of i4b finds that they are meaningless or nonsense at all (i.e. earlyhangup > unitlength or so) isdnd does what you describe. (Now, in case someone hits r(eply) to tell me/us that this reaction of isdnd is hardly to accept at all, then let me say: yes, you are quite right and i look forward to get patches from you to change that behaviour for all cases that are likely to occur). hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis Tel +49 40 559747-70 HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH Fax +49 40 559747-77 Oldesloer Strasse 97-99 Mail hm [at] hcs.de 22457 Hamburg WWW http://www.hcs.de To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Tue Oct 26 12:20:12 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from dominik.saargate.de (p3E9D37D4.dip0.t-ipconnect.de [62.157.55.212]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EB7D61522D for ; Tue, 26 Oct 1999 12:19:50 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from domi@saargate.de) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by dominik.saargate.de (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id VAA50569 for ; Tue, 26 Oct 1999 21:19:41 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from domi@saargate.de) Date: Tue, 26 Oct 1999 21:19:41 +0200 (CEST) From: Dominik Brettnacher To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Subject: cause 47: Resources unavailable Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org What does this message mean? 26.10.1999 20:52:08 CHD 00784 lf cause 47: Resources unavailable, unspecified (Q .850) -- Dominik - http://www.saargate.de/~domi/ To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Tue Oct 26 12:39:55 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from prefix.rhein.de (prefix.rhein.de [193.175.27.10]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6E07B152C4 for ; Tue, 26 Oct 1999 12:39:42 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from is@jocelyn.rhein.de) Received: from jocelyn.rhein.de (unknown [193.175.27.210]) by prefix.rhein.de (Postfix) with ESMTP id D57033B394; Tue, 26 Oct 1999 19:39:39 +0000 (MET) Received: by jocelyn.rhein.de (Postfix, from userid 1501) id E47C566; Tue, 26 Oct 1999 21:37:10 +0200 (MEST) Date: Tue, 26 Oct 1999 21:37:10 +0200 From: Ignatios Souvatzis To: Dominik Brettnacher Cc: freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: cause 47: Resources unavailable Message-ID: <19991026213710.D462@jocelyn.rhein.de> References: Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Mailer: Mutt 0.95.6i In-Reply-To: ; from Dominik Brettnacher on Tue, Oct 26, 1999 at 09:19:41PM +0200 Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Tue, Oct 26, 1999 at 09:19:41PM +0200, Dominik Brettnacher wrote: > 26.10.1999 20:52:08 CHD 00784 lf cause 47: Resources unavailable, > unspecified (Q .850) Without having the standard handy, I'd day, either - no B channel is available at your, or the remote, end (but... there's a seperate error code for this, I think) - your exchange, or the remote exchange, or the ISD network in between is saturated. This also occured to me with i4b 0.83 and FreeBSD 3.1: I just upgraded the system to see if it would go away... The Hardware is a 486 DX2/66 in an Asus SP3 Board with a 3com 3C900 Combo ethernet board (PCI) and an AVM Fritz!Card (PCI). (There is also an old PCI VGA card, but it's only used if it's necessary to fiddle with the BIOS. The system is configured to use the serial console.) After booting the kernel with ISDN support, I will get "xl0: watchdog timeout" messages after some time and the network performance is extremely bad then. ("xl" is the network driver for the 3com PCI ethernet boards, in case somebody wonders... ;-)) At this time, nothing of the ISDN part is used, only the drivers in the kernel are active! It seems to me, as if the i4b Fritz PCI drivers steal the interrupts of the ethernet board, but could that really be? The kernel boot messages seem to look ok: the kernel recognizes the right IRQ mappings for the PCI cards that I have setup in the BIOS for them. The only thing that puzzles me, is that they all claim to use "INT A"... Is this ok? Since this machine is "dangerously dedicated" [<:-)] to FreeBSD I can't go for the "use Win and look if it works there" approach. (But in any case: that may not really give any hints...). Any help is appreciated... bye... Horst. Try to give different IRQ lines to your ISDN and ethernet card, this is a matter of either a BIOS setup or - in case of an old motherboard - reading docs and fiddling around with jumpers and/or dipswitches. hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis Tel +49 40 559747-70 HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH Fax +49 40 559747-77 Oldesloer Strasse 97-99 Mail hm [at] hcs.de 22457 Hamburg WWW http://www.hcs.de To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Wed Oct 27 7:29:33 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from ixori.demon.nl (ixori.demon.nl [195.11.248.5]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6D10F14C92 for ; Wed, 27 Oct 1999 07:29:22 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from bart@ixori.demon.nl) Received: from ixori.demon.nl (localhost.ixori.demon.nl [127.0.0.1]) by ixori.demon.nl (8.9.3/8.9.1) with ESMTP id QAA04555; Wed, 27 Oct 1999 16:32:00 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from bart@ixori.demon.nl) Message-ID: <38170CE0.869476E6@ixori.demon.nl> Date: Wed, 27 Oct 1999 16:32:00 +0200 From: Bart van Leeuwen Reply-To: bart@ixori.demon.nl Organization: IxorI X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.61 [en] (X11; I; FreeBSD 4.0-CURRENT i386) X-Accept-Language: en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: hm@hcs.de Cc: webbasan@muc.de, freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Trouble after installing i4b 0.83: "xl0: watchdog timeout" References: <19991027140415.9E40038D6@hcswork.hcs.de> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Funny thing is that I have seen that same watchdog timeout message on xl0 for quite a while now. again) In my case it looks like this had to do with xl0 and the miibus in FreeBSD 4.0-CURRENT. Besides a message each boot there wasn't any serious problem that prevented me from using the setup, and lack of time stopped me from figuring out what exactly caused this. Anyway, for the case of the discussion, I saw this on a machine without any i4b running. The machine was runing a very recent 4.0-CURRENT, and the message has been there for a few months (as far as I am aware since the mii bus stuff), and has been gone since last weekend's make buildworld ;-) The system I have is based on an Asus P2B system board with 2x pII 333 cpu, 256 megs of memory, 2x 3com 3c905 100mbit,on board scsi, matrox g400 graphics card. running FreeBSD 4.0-CURRENT, usually not older then 2-3 weeks. Anyway, if the problem discussed here occured on 4.0-CURRENT I don't think it has anything to do with i4b, tho the hw combination of course may trigger it. -- Bart van Leeuwen - bart@ixori.demon.nl - http://www.ixori.demon.nl/ To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Wed Oct 27 12:44: 6 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from mail.bezeqint.net (mail-a.bezeqint.net [192.115.106.23]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B856715004 for ; Wed, 27 Oct 1999 12:43:50 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from sarig@bezeqint.net) Received: from default (pri-ra-1152.isdn.net.il) by mail.bezeqint.net (Sun Internet Mail Server sims.3.5.1999.07.30.00.05.p8) with SMTP id <0FKA00KUA1G9C4@mail.bezeqint.net> for freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org; Wed, 27 Oct 1999 21:43:23 +0200 (IST) Date: Wed, 27 Oct 1999 21:43:02 +0200 From: Oren Sarig Subject: AVM Fritz PCI X-Sender: sarig@mail.bezeqint.net To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Message-id: <3.0.6.32.19991027214302.007ad7f0@mail.bezeqint.net> MIME-version: 1.0 X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Light Version 3.0.6 (32) Content-type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Hello all. I have an AVM Fritz! Card PCI and I'm running FreeBSD 3.3-RELEASE with the i4b that came on it. I need some help on how to connect to my ISP. I've compiled my kernel with ISDN support in it, and the build was successful. I've copied /etc/isdn/isdnd.rc.sample to /etc/isdn/isdnd.rc and modified it according to `man isdnd.rc'. However, when I try to run `isdnd' with whatever parameters, I get the following errors: isdnd[334]: ERR init_controller: no ISDN controller found! isdnd[334]: ERR init_controller: no ISDN controller found! isdnd[334]: DMN daemon terminating, exitval = 1 Why is this happenning? ISDN is compiled into my kernel, and the /dev entries for the i4b devices exist. I am attaching a few files that might help. My questions are: * Why can't it find my controller? * Where is the chap-secrets hiding? * Where are ppp-on and ppp-off? * What am I doing wrong? My system is an Intel Pentium II 266Mhz, 64Mb of RAM, a 370 ISA -> PCI bridge, a 440 (Natoma) PCI bridge, etc. You can see the exact configuration in the files I am attaching. That's why your box won't find a controller, the kernel would tell you this at pretty early boot time: isic0: rev 0x02 int a irq 10 on pci0.11.0 isic0: ISAC 2085 Version A1/A2 or 2086/2186 Version 1.1 (IOM-2) (when checking pci devices). so upgrading will be the only solution. have fun, Klaus -- Klaus Herrmann Powered by FreeBSD (http://www.freebsd.org) To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Wed Oct 27 13:45:46 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from peedub.muc.de (peedub.muc.de [193.149.49.109]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6218714A17 for ; Wed, 27 Oct 1999 13:45:41 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from garyj@peedub.muc.de) Received: from peedub.muc.de (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by peedub.muc.de (8.9.3/8.6.9) with ESMTP id WAA06145; Wed, 27 Oct 1999 22:40:59 +0200 (CEST) Message-Id: <199910272040.WAA06145@peedub.muc.de> X-Mailer: exmh version 2.1.0 09/18/1999 To: Oren Sarig Cc: freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: AVM Fritz PCI Reply-To: Gary Jennejohn In-reply-to: Your message of "Wed, 27 Oct 1999 21:43:02 +0200." <3.0.6.32.19991027214302.007ad7f0@mail.bezeqint.net> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Date: Wed, 27 Oct 1999 22:40:58 +0200 From: Gary Jennejohn Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Oren Sarig writes: >Why is this happenning? If the Fritz!Card really gets interrupts (while ISDN is not active) then you'll see trace output from the driver. Make certain NOT to use i4b at all before doing this !! I say that because most NTs send keep-alive packets every 10 seconds to the TE after a connection has been made. I have downloaded a new version of i4b and used `overinstall.sh` to upgrade. I updated the files.i386 and options.i386, and recompiled the kernel, and it went smoothley (well, once I've done everything right, it didn't work the first time :)). I can launch isdnd and it runs. Every once in a while I get the message: i4b-L1-timer4_expired: state = F3 Deactivated Why is that? Anyways, I tried the commands in your script. `ifconfig isp0 delete -link1` and `ifconfig isp0 down` work smoothley. `spppcontrol` gives me an error though, even when I just do `spppcontrol isp0`. The error is: spppcontrol: SIOCGIFGENERIC(SPPPIOGDEFS): Invalid argument Maybe the following errors are just because this line didn't work, but here they are anyways. I try to type this command: ifconfig isp0 0.0.0.0 192.115.104.72 -link1 mtu 500 netmask 0xffffff00 192.115.104.72 is the DNS of my ISP. You said I should put my ISP's IP here, I assume that is what you mean. If not, please clarify. Anyways, I get the error: ifconfig: ioctl (SIOCAIFADDR): File exists What's wrong here? Anyways, I type `ifconfig isp0 down` and no errors. Finally, I type: route add default -interface isp0 and I get: route: writing to routing socket: File exists add net default: gateway isp0: File exists Why do all those errors occur? My krenel configuration file didn't change from last time, nor did my isdnd.rc, and all that changed in the /var/log/messages is that now I have the isic0: * in there that shows it recognizes my controller. Thanks in advance for your help. I've tried looking at the `ifconfig` and `spppcontrol` man pages, though there was nothing that helped me there. BTW, another weird symptom is that I can't reboot my computer with CTRL+ALT+DEL becuase i4b gives me an error message and the comp hangs. I can only reboot with the `reboot` command, which takes too many keystrokes ;) Why does the computer hang? -- Oren Sarig sarig@bezeqint.net At 22:10 27/10/99 +0200, Klaus Herrmann wrote: >> Hello all. >> >> I have an AVM Fritz! Why can't I access the network? hmm, you might want to try the debug option to see whether you really get connected or not. you will see if the output looks like a good dial-in with successful pap/chap authentification. if so, try nslookup to see if your pc looks for the right dns servers. but pinging any host should definitly work. what error message(s) do you get? oh, and you could try "tcpdump isp0" to take a look if there are any packages delivered at all. adios, Klaus -- Klaus Herrmann Powered by FreeBSD (http://www.freebsd.org) To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Thu Oct 28 12:41:25 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from laurin.munich.netsurf.de (laurin.munich.netsurf.de [194.64.166.1]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3038F1556F for ; Thu, 28 Oct 1999 12:41:17 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from klaus.herrmann@gmx.net) Received: from wunderland.own (ns2087.munich.netsurf.de [195.180.232.87]) by laurin.munich.netsurf.de (8.9.3/8.9.3) with SMTP id VAA13975; Thu, 28 Oct 1999 21:41:12 +0200 (MET DST) From: Klaus Herrmann To: Oren Sarig , hm@hcs.de Subject: Re: AVM Fritz PCI Date: Thu, 28 Oct 1999 21:38:27 +0200 X-Mailer: KMail [version 1.0.28] Content-Type: text/plain Cc: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org (ISDN Mailinglist) References: <3.0.6.32.19991028162754.007bbe80@mail.bezeqint.net> <3.0.6.32.19991028203856.007c5100@mail.bezeqint.net> In-Reply-To: <3.0.6.32.19991028203856.007c5100@mail.bezeqint.net> MIME-Version: 1.0 Message-Id: <99102821424101.00495@wunderland.own> Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Am Thu, 28 Oct 1999 schrieb Oren Sarig: > At 19:57 28/10/99 +0200, Hellmuth Michaelis wrote: > >>From the keyboard of Oren Sarig: > > > >> i4b-L1-timer4_expired: state = F3 Deactivated > > > >A debug message which should not be displayed. What should I change in the sources? i think it is not necessary to fix your sources, just ignore the message. i don't think this is the problem. a lot of people have a fritz!card pci running fine, and in the next release this will be fixed (i think, but i am not involved with the coding). no need to worry about this. Maybe this warning messages comes together with automatic hangup. you know, earlyhangup in isdnd.rc. take a look if the time fro ifconfig isp0 up to the message is equal to your earlyhangup. ciao, Klaus -- Klaus Herrmann Powered by FreeBSD (http://www.freebsd.org) To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Thu Oct 28 12:55:22 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from peedub.muc.de (peedub.muc.de [193.149.49.109]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C38CA14C1F for ; Thu, 28 Oct 1999 12:55:17 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from garyj@peedub.muc.de) Received: from peedub.muc.de (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by peedub.muc.de (8.9.3/8.6.9) with ESMTP id VAA08488; Thu, 28 Oct 1999 21:52:27 +0200 (CEST) Message-Id: <199910281952.VAA08488@peedub.muc.de> X-Mailer: exmh version 2.1.0 09/18/1999 To: Wilko Bulte Cc: freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG (FreeBSD isdn mailing list) Subject: Re: unknown isdn card Reply-To: Gary Jennejohn In-reply-to: Your message of "Thu, 28 Oct 1999 00:22:43 +0200." <199910272222.AAA67921@yedi.iaf.nl> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Date: Thu, 28 Oct 1999 21:52:27 +0200 From: Gary Jennejohn Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Wilko Bulte writes: >Somebody dumped a PCI ISDN card on my desk with the remark "You want >this? Anyways, when I do a `ifconfig isp0 up`, isdnd running in full screen interactive mode shows it is getting connect, shows a connection, and disconnects because of "Normal disconnect" (which threw me off). Anyways, if I do `ifconfig isp0 debug` and examin the debug output, I see that when it tries to connect, there are numerous `/kernel: isp0: lcp parse opts: auth-proto [not configured] magic send conf-rej', which probably shows that the authentication protocol was not set to chap. What did I do wrong in the script for setting it to chap? I get an error about `Invalid Argument' when I type the command, but I also get it if I just type `spppcontrol isp0` or even `spppcontrol lo0`, and loopback does work. How do I set it to chap? I am attaching the debug output if it might help you. Is the NTBA faulty? There are another bunch of "strange" errors never occured before, also resulting in a complete block of all isdn activity: Oct 26 20:01:31 loch isdnd[63]: DBG decr_free_channels: ctrl 0, now 1 chan free Oct 26 20:01:31 loch isdnd[63]: CHD 00057 BlueWindow dialing out from 52739 to 010230191888 Oct 26 20:01:31 loch natd[274]: failed to write packet back (Can't assign requested address) Oct 26 20:01:35 loch /kernel: i4b-L3-T303_timeout: SETUP not answered, cr = 68 Or this one: Oct 29 19:10:15 loch /kernel: i4b-L3-T305_timeout: DISC not answered, cr = 103 Oct 29 19:10:19 loch /kernel: i4b-L3-T308_timeout: REL not answered, cr = 103 May it be Telekom's fault or is perhaps my isdn card broken? Does anybody from you had also these error messages and what means "MDL"? How can I find out if it is a problem between Kernel<->Card, Card<->S0 or S0<->Telekom? Do you know any pointers on the net?
