I believe I am most of the way there: - I have setup both inside and outside NICs correctly - I have enabled natd and firewall in the rc.conf file - I have added the "NATD 8668/divert" entry to the services file - I have built the following test rc.firewall file: /sbin/ipfw -f flush /sbin/ipfw add divert natd all from any to any via ep0 /sbin/ipfw add pass all from any to any When the rc.firewall script loads or I try to manually enter the commands I get: 00000 divert 8668 ip from any to any via ep0 /sbin/ipfw: setsockopt(IP_FW_ADD): Invalid Argument After this error, that's it, no NAT. I don't understand error. Most of my configuration came from the man pages on NATD and IPFW from the FreeBSD website. I am using the kernel that came with 0.41-Network file. The man page for NATD suggests adding two lines to the kernel config file: options IPFIREWALL options IPDIVERT I haven't tried this yet as rebuilding the kernel for PicoBSD seems a little daunting. As well, looking through the kernel config file for FreeBSD 3.2, there is no listing of this kind at all. Are these entries no longer required when building a new kernel? Anyway, I am new at this, but learning all the time. If someone can shed some light on my problem, I would appreciate it. I grabbed the latest picobsd.tgz, unpacked it, checked the PICOBSD file in net/conf/ for the entries: options IPFIREWALL options IPDIVERT These entries are already in the PICOBSD script, so I run the ./build script, choose net and tell it to go. A few minutes in, I get an error and the build stops. Unfortunately, my lack of experience with compiling software forces me to ask what the problem might be here. I have tried the build on two FreeBSD 3.1 machines and got the same errors. As well, I would like to know if it is possible to rebuild the kernel on the floppy. I checked out the kernel.config file on a "network" floppy, but it appears to be blank and has 0 bytes. Lastly, would the "router" version of PicoBSD contain the necessary options already built into the kernel? Thanks for you help and patients. A nice interface prompts me to make my selections, and I choose NET, then I edit the PICOBSD file for net and comment out unnecessary ethernet entries. I exit and then choose "build it" Here are the errors I get: PicoBSD build -- Current parameters: 1. Type: net 2. MFS size: 2400 kB 3. Language: en 4. I believe these errors are stating that I have problems with the PICOBSD file (for the sake of completeness, I'll include it below); however, I have checked the file over and over and cannot see any errors. Once again, the system I am building is FreeBSD 3.1 if that matters. If anyone can lend any advice at all to help me out I would greatly appreciate it as I cannot make heads or tails of these problems. I suspect similar breakage below. The problem is that you are trying to build picoBSD with sources that are newer than the system you are building it on. The picoBSD sources and your system have to be of the same vintage. Either update your machine (see `Making the World Your Own' in the _Tutorials_ at www.FreeBSD.org), or use 3.1 sources. You can get 3.1 sources via cvsup by using 'tag=RELENG_3_1_0_RELEASE' instead of 'tag=RELENG_3'. --- John Baldwin -- http://www.cslab.vt.edu/~jobaldwi/ PGP Key: http://www.cslab.vt.edu/~jobaldwi/pgpkey.asc "Power Users Use the Power to Serve!" - http://www.FreeBSD.org/ To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-small" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-small Fri Oct 22 10:43:21 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-small@freebsd.org Received: from biff.nerdpower.net (c13574-001.nerdpower.net [24.108.37.222]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 0E64814D76 for ; Fri, 22 Oct 1999 10:43:16 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from jeff@nerdpower.com) Received: (qmail 27198 invoked by alias); 22 Oct 1999 17:45:12 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO flanders) (24.108.37.21) by biff.nerdpower.net with SMTP; 22 Oct 1999 17:45:12 -0000 From: "Jeff Lush" To: Subject: RE: PicoBSD v0.445 Compilation Problems Date: Fri, 22 Oct 1999 11:46:45 -0600 Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook IMO, Build 9.0.2416 (9.0.2910.0) Importance: Normal X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.2314.1300 Sender: owner-freebsd-small@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG Well, mostly success. I grabbed the correct sources for 3.1 via cvsup and ran the build script and no compile errors! Wow. But, the script gets to stage 1 and then stops with no errors. Here's the output: ====================== stage1 started ===================== -> Preparing kernel... -> Preparing MFS filesystem... homer# That's it. I have a fs.PICOBSD and a kernel file in the build directory. I have attempted running stage1 alone, but no luck. I have also checked for vn0 in /dev, it's there and I checked my kernel for a built-in vnode driver and it's there. Any ideas?
