I find a fair number of good deals in misc.forsale.computers.workstations. > If you can find one, SPARC ELCs go for about $350 > and IPXs for about $450 these days. For $450, that would be a full system, including a reasonable amount of RAM and disk and a 17" colour monitor. The base itself is usually $30-$60 these days. If you're a poor student, or even if your not, for the initial port you'll get a lot more bang for your buck buying a cheap, old sparc and spending any extra you have on a fast PC for cross-compiling. Once you get the platform self-hosting, then you can look at getting a fast sparc to work on. cjs -- Curt Sampson 604 801 5335 De gustibus, aut bene aut nihil. They're that available. If you can't pick up a Sparc2 with at least a few megs of RAM for $50 then you're living next door to elves or some other obscure hole in the wall. > 4) If Sun will give us some form of "support" I will develop on Ultra. > Otherwise I will reconsider the "old sparc".... When the SS2 was introduced, a new system ran in the low teens. My SLC was priced around $5k and you don't even want to know what my 4/330 was when it was 'new'. Current Sun prices are -great- compared to the old hardware. Anyhow, I need to go back downstairs and drink some more or something because I'm not normally this sensitive to the sort of rubbish you posted. Have a good one. -- | Matthew N.
