I posted pccard beep melody patch on Jan/3 in this mailing list. That patch set was included change to sys/i386/isa/clocks.c. So no-one committed that patch into FreeBSD tree, I think. I rewrite melody patch which is not included change to clocks.c, only to sys/pccard/pccard_beep.c. http://home.jp.FreeBSD.org/~sanpei/5-current/sys-pccard-pccard_beep_melody-20000507.diff I only tested this patch under 5-current enviroment. But I think it could apply to 4.0-RELEASE/4-stable tree. And add below line into /etc/rc.conf: pccard_beep="2" By the way, Iwasaki-san has yet another idea about pccard beep melody. Add new function to /usr/sbin/pccardd or device management daemon and use /dev/speaker like this -----in /etc/defaults/pccard.conf: device inserted echo 't120o3l16 bf+' > /dev/speaker device removed echo 't120o3l16 f+b' > /dev/speaker device attached echo 't120o3l32 b>c+f+16' > /dev/speaker ----- It sounds good, we could use /dev/audio if NOTE-PC has Sound Chip. -----in /etc/pccard.conf device inserted cat /home/sanpei/lib/inserted.au > /dev/audio device removed cat /home/sanpei/lib/removed.au > /dev/audio device attached cat /home/sanpei/lib/attached.au > /dev/audio ------ But that idea has problem, I think. - current GENERIC kernel does not have pseudo-device speaker (Is it easy to add pseudo-device speaker into GENERIC kernel?) - and novice user wants to use melody mode with default kernel. (especially for PAO3 users, melody is defalut beep in PAO3) I did not create diff for man page, usr.sbin/pccard/pccardc/pccardc.8. But it is easy work. Any comments? Thank you. --- MIHIRA Sanpei Yoshiro Yokohama, Japan. I have it dualbooting, with the FreeBSD boot manager, NT 4 is installed in a partition that takes up the first 500Mb of the disk and this boots fine.... I'm now trying to install FreeBSD in a partition that takes up the rest of the disk - a 1.6Gb disk. When I choose "F2 - FreeBSD" from the bootmanager, it boots the kernel fine, going through initialising the devices etc... then the last screen I can see has thing like the following: find: not found date: not found uname: not found cp /etc/motd - not found can't exec getty - /usr/libexec/getty for /dev/ttyv0 can't exec getty - /usr/libexec/getty for /dev/ttyv1 can't exec getty - /usr/libexec/getty for /dev/ttyv2 can't exec getty - /usr/libexec/getty for /dev/ttyv3 can't exec getty - /usr/libexec/getty for /dev/ttyv4 can't exec getty - /usr/libexec/getty for /dev/ttyv5 can't exec getty - /usr/libexec/getty for /dev/ttyv6 can't exec getty - /usr/libexec/getty for /dev/ttyv7 so I'm wondering what's going on! I tried to have only one FreeBSD slice within it's 'dos partition'. Perhaps I have to have a separate /usr partition? Perhaps some of these executables have to be in the first 500Mb of the disk... any help would be greatly appreciated.. once again, this is what happens straight after the install, on the first boot, and there appears no getting around it but to try and reinstall again which doesn't work either... perhaps I should boot up of a rescue floppy and try and work out what's going wrong that way? cheers jesse -- -- Jesse Reynolds - Virtual Artists Pty Ltd - http://www.va.com.au Email: jesse (at) va.com.au - http://virtual.artists To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-mobile" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-mobile Sun May 7 18:42:47 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mongkok.pacific.net.hk (mongkok.pacific.net.hk [202.14.67.46]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E899F37B832 for ; Sun, 7 May 2000 18:42:38 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from alexkwan@pacific.net.hk) Received: from kwaifong.pacific.net.hk (kwaifong.pacific.net.hk [202.14.67.7]) by mongkok.pacific.net.hk with ESMTP id JAA04182 for ; Mon, 8 May 2000 09:42:33 +0800 (HKT) Received: from alexkwan (ppp103.dyn29.pacific.net.hk [202.64.29.103]) by kwaifong.pacific.net.hk with SMTP id JAA06804 for ; Mon, 8 May 2000 09:42:31 +0800 (HKT) Message-ID: <000d01bfb88e$d63aae60$671d40ca@alexkwan> From: "Alex Kwan" To: Subject: How to install FreeBSD4.0 on a SONY PCG-N505VX Date: Mon, 8 May 2000 09:43:39 +0800 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="big5" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2615.200 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.2615.200 Sender: owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Hi! If there are Windows version of BayStack client, you can communicate by changing the value for sc->sc_mib_local.Network_Mode in sys/dev/awi/awi.c:awi_init_mibs() from 1 to 0. (there are no configuration utility for awi driver yet..) If you want use two BayStack cards both with awi driver, you can use "no_bssid" mode by assigning sc->sc_no_bssid to 1 in the same function. Note that this mode is compatible for 'adhoc' mode of WaveLAN/IEEE (if_wi). There is a bad entry in the "configuration entry" tuple FreeBSD's dumpcis shows this Tuple #11, code = 0x1b (Configuration entry), length = 18 Config index = 0x3(default) Interface byte = 0x41 (I/O) +RDY/-BSY active Card decodes 4 address lines, 8 Bit I/O only I/O address # 1: block length = 0x10 IRQ modes: Level IRQs: 4 5 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 Look at the I/O address #1 entry. The symptom are that I can, on some networks, I can establish outgoing connections just fine, on other nets, I can't even ping. > Warner > > > To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org > with "unsubscribe freebsd-mobile" in the body of the message -- Brian 'you Bastard' Reichert reichert@numachi.com 37 Crystal Ave. #303 Daytime number: (603) 434-6842 Derry NH 03038-1713 USA Intel architecture: the left-hand path To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-mobile" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-mobile Mon May 8 10:30: 5 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from fleming.cs.strath.ac.uk (fleming.cs.strath.ac.uk [130.159.196.126]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 119A437B90E; Mon, 8 May 2000 10:29:51 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from roger@cs.strath.ac.uk) Received: from cs.strath.ac.uk (posh.dmem.strath.ac.uk [130.159.202.3]) by fleming.cs.strath.ac.uk (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id SAA09751 Mon, 8 May 2000 18:29:36 +0100 (BST) Message-ID: <3916F954.BD03F092@cs.strath.ac.uk> Date: Mon, 08 May 2000 18:28:52 +0100 From: Roger Hardiman Organization: University of Strathclyde X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.72 [en] (X11; I; Linux 2.2.12 i386) X-Accept-Language: en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: bsd-nomads@clave.gr.jp, roger@freebsd.org, mobile@freebsd.org Subject: Bug fix for PAO3 for Nokia Card Phone 2.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Hi, I have attached a patch to make PAO3 work with the Nokia Card Phone 2.0. Currently PAO will panic the kernel due to a bad CIS tuple. I'll explain more later but the fix is to card.c in pccardd. Look for } else if (cio) { sio->addr = cio->addr; sio->size = cio->size; for (i = sio->addr; i < sio->addr + sio->size - 1; i++) if (!bit_test(io_kern, i)) return (-3); and change the IF statement to } else if ((cio)&&(cio->addr != 0)) { There is a entry in the Configuration Entry tuple like this Card decodes 4 address lines, 8 Bit I/O only I/O address # 1: block length = 0x10 IRQ modes: Level IRQs: 4 5 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 There is a I/O address #1 entry but there is no start_address. You will need to set the configuration entry in /etc/defaults/pccard.conf to card "Xircom" "CreditCard Ethernet 10/100 + Modem 56" config 0x27 "xe0" ? or appropiate IRQ. Apply the patch, recompile the kernel and hopefully all will be well. Can someone who is familiar with NEWBUS work out how to get the reallocation of the ioport range in xe_activate work better with OLDCARD. At present the kernel will assign an io port range when the driver is probed. We then re-assign this on attach - I think that this is "wrong". However. . . Most of the time my laptop's connected to a network, be at at home, or on a client's site. But when I'm travelling to and fro it's obviously disconnected. Under 3.2-PAO I could disconnect the balun (or 'dongle', if you prefer) from the network card, but leave the network card in the machine. I could then use the machine off the network as normal -- I'd get a few messages in syslog about the network not responding, but nothing that seemed to cause any problems. Then, when I plug the balun back in, and connect the laptop back up to a network, everything works fine -- the connectivity lights come on, the network is reachable, and all is well. It didn't matter what I'd done on the machine in the mean time -- I could suspend to memory or to disk with no problems, and the card would still come back. This was quite convenient, as it meant I didn't have to go through the hassle of ejecting the card, putting a 'spacer' card in to fill the gap, remembering to bring the card, and so on. I just tried it today with 4.0-stable and it doesn't work. I get the usual syslog messages about the network not being contactable. Then, when I plug the balun back in the link lights don't come on. "ifconfig -a" shows the ed1 interface as being "UP", and with an IP address. I tried removing and reinserting the card to see if I could force pccardd to redetect it, but no joy. I tried killing and restarting pccard, and then removing and reinserting the card -- again, no joy. In the end I rebooted, and the card came back to life. It's certainly not a serious problem. I just I'd mention it on the off chance there's an easy fix. N -- Internet connection, $19.95 a month. Computer, $799.95. Modem, $149.95. Telephone line, $24.95 a month. Software, free. Sender: owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Hi all, The latest version of the Raylink driver is available at http://www.ragnet.demon.co.uk/raylink-1.2.tar.gz or http://www.ragnet.demon.co.uk/raylink.tar.gz The driver now has versions that support 3.x and -current. RELENG_4 will be Real Soon Now! Version 1.2: 10/5/00 Updates since 1.1 Port to -current under OLDCARD. We can run on FreeBSD 3.1...3.5, and current at 4 May 2000. Different files needed. Some shuffling around of code into different files and move to /sys/dev/ray. Most code changes are cleaning up probe, attach, detach and attribute memory hacks whilst porting to -current, none are functional. Good luck and happy hacking, Duncan P.S. I still need to do more work on the driver. Mainly "grunt" stuff in getting multicast working right and properly shutting the driver down in the detach and stop functions (this will also remove all the panics currently in the code). However, these things shouldn't stop people from using it and it would be good to see it in the tree. > Warner Duncan --- ________________________________________________________________________ Duncan Barclay | God smiles upon the little children, dmlb@ragnet.demon.co.uk | the alcoholics, and the permanently stoned. ________________________________________________________________________ To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-mobile" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-mobile Wed May 10 15:47:28 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mass.cdrom.com (mass.cdrom.com [204.216.28.234]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A3D5A37B581; Wed, 10 May 2000 15:47:24 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from msmith@mass.cdrom.com) Received: from mass.cdrom.com (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by mass.cdrom.com (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id PAA47612; Wed, 10 May 2000 15:45:38 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from msmith@mass.cdrom.com) Message-Id: <200005102245.PAA47612@mass.cdrom.com> X-Mailer: exmh version 2.1.1 10/15/1999 To: Warner Losh Cc: Duncan Barclay , Thomason Fan , Ted Buswell , Preston Garrison , Nigel Roles , Mike Smith , Michele Lucini , "Jacob S. I've just remember that I haven't finished redoing some of the code for Infra-structure mode. None of the earlier testers said that they have firmware version 5, so the driver is "untested". What has Bill got running? The raylink driver? If so, it would be nice for him to get in contact to exchange code. This driver shouldn't get forked, there is a fair amount of work left to make it production quality code that is all in my head. The same setup which worked perfectly under FreeBSD-3.3+PAO does not see any insertion or removal events ( It was IRQ 11, port 0x3e0 ) . If i boot with the card, it is recognized, but the removal event does not appear. I have tried various other combinations of IRQ and port without success. However in polling mode, everything works OK. Note that, after having recompiled kernel to polling mode i have seen for the first time silo overflows on my machine. Don't know if it is perfectly correlated, because it appeared just on one connection. By the way i have just tested wether parallel port Zip works under FreeBSD 4.0-Release on laptop. The answer is yes (and i have propagated false information from other messages) here is my dmesg: ppc0: at port 0x378-0x37f irq 7 on isa0 ppc0: Generic chipset (EPP/NIBBLE) in COMPATIBLE mode vpo0: on ppbus0 vpo0: EPP 1.9 mode ppi0: on ppbus0 lpt0: on ppbus0 lpt0: Interrupt-driven port da0 at vpo0 bus 0 target 6 lun 0 da0: Removable Direct Access SCSI-2 device da0: 96MB (196608 512 byte sectors: 64H 32S/T 96C) Note that (and it was the same in 3.3) i had to put the port in EPP mode for this to work. Fortunately the bios has this option here. Yeah, I realized that after sending out my message. The original poster didn't give enough information to determine which WaveLan he's got. I am running FreeBSD 3.3 with a KAME snapshot and local changes, but none near the serial drivers. I've tried kernels with and without pnp0. I've tried with the explicit irq4, and with ? Here's the bit of my kernel config: # Serial (COM) ports device sio0 at isa? port "IO_COM1" flags 0x10 tty irq ? device sio1 at isa? port "IO_COM2" tty irq ? # for notebooks/pcmcia modem device sio2 at isa? port "IO_COM3" tty irq 5 vector siointr Things with this notebook are otherwise basically ok; I have X working and pcmcia cards. I haven't tried the USB. The basic result is a boot like this: sio0 at 0x3f8-0x3ff flags 0x10 on isa sio0: type 8250 sio1 not found at 0x2f8 sio2: configured irq 5 not in bitmap of probed irqs 0 sio2 not found at 0x3e8 Before putting ? for the irq, I got '4 is not in bitmask of probed irqs'. Trying to use sio0 results in a hang. So I believe that the hardware is just not responding. I've tried to do 'pnp 1 0 bios enable' and 'pnp 1 0 os enable'. I've tried setting "quick boot" on and off. pnpinfo reports no pnp devices. In windows (which I kept just to run the control programs), I've turned IR off and the serial port on. On a TP 760ED, I previously ran ps2.exe to turn off ir and on 'sera'. However, in that case, sio0 was there the whole time - just hooked up to the wrong place. Any clues would be greatly appreciated; a search of -questions and -mobile didn't turn up any clues about the 600 series notebooks. Sender: owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Hi all As some of you might know I've been writing a driver for the Webgear Aviators. Unfortunately I've broken my development card (I bent it) and I can't get to Fry's/CompUSA too easily from Cambridge in England. This means that the driver development will slow down lots and maybe even stop. Can anyone in the US help me out and get a "two pack" from CompUSA and ship it to me asap? The best way for me to pay is probably via money order of some sort. NB. I've seen on Webgear's site that they are replacing the Aviators with Aviator Pros. These are the same hardware but require a flash upgrade. I need the orginal Aviators with version 4 firmware. I saw some ess updates go past on a cvsup of a new -stable machine at work, so cvsuped my laptop too in the hope that some of this was fixed. Vain hope, in fact it's gotten even more broken. I can't get clean sound out of my laptop at all now :/ it's distorted and crackled playing with xmms (which used to work) and the mixer levels change briefly during a resume to un-mute the microphone to give me nasty feedback noise :/ *sigh* P. -- pir pir@pir.net pir@net.tufts.edu To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-mobile" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-mobile Sat May 13 16:58:40 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from sasami.jurai.net (sasami.jurai.net [63.67.141.99]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C1DB037B63E for ; Sat, 13 May 2000 16:58:34 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from scanner@jurai.net) Received: from localhost (scanner@localhost) by sasami.jurai.net (8.9.3/8.8.7) with ESMTP id TAA53130 for ; Sat, 13 May 2000 19:58:32 -0400 (EDT) Date: Sat, 13 May 2000 19:58:32 -0400 (EDT) From: To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Subject: FreeBSD driver for Teletronics cards (fwd) Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Reposted with authors permission. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Fri, 12 May 2000 23:46:43 -0700 From: Lonnie Nunweiler To: "isp-wireless@isp-wireless.com" Subject: FreeBSD driver for Teletronics cards I'm trying to judge interest in a driver for FreeBSD and the Teletronics PCMCIA cards. Beta should be available next week. Early results show almost astounding performance. We are learning, for sure. From a Linux FTP server we have measured 192K bytes download through a single Teletronics Access Point. From an NT 4 FTP Server the rate is 155K bytes. The Linux driver gave us 160K bytes with the same configuration from the Linux or NT servers. Windows 98 driver gives 150K bytes from same spot, either server. We pretty much gave up on the Linux driver for dual cpu but the FreeBSD driver already is stable. One neat thing is that we have had only ONE system killing crash. That occurred when we tried 2 PCMCIA adapters and plugged in a card to each. The first card was just fine, but boom when the second was inserted. Needs work. Any BSD heads who know how to run 2 PCMCIA adapters? Anyway, the driver will be released late next week, for 3.4 kernel. Hope it helps a few people. Lonnie Nunweiler Webworld Warehouse Ltd.
