We run the ftp.nz.freebsd.org mirror. Historically we ran the clunky Perl ftp mirror script. I later changed to rsync from the Australian mirror - although this was problematic for some silly inter-carrier bandwidth reasons. I left the problem to a colleague who told me that he had organised rsync from the US mirror. This appears to be broken at present and I am not sure if it ever worked (that person has since left the company). The rsync to ftp.freebsd.org fails with "Connection timed out" - which would indicate that our SYNs are silently discared somewhere - maybe. How mutch bandwith does such a mirror use? Is this terabytes of just gigabytes? What kind of diskspace does it use? Is this just a few gig's or should we buy a new harddisk? How doe we setup a mirror, must we cvs-up each few days from the main server? We have a very high performance FreeBSD server connected to a high bandwith internet connection so this shouldn't be a problem. Our company and server(s) are located in the netherlands so this would become the second nl mirror. Hoping to hear from you soon. The ftp mirror require at least 60 GB of disk space, and probably 100 GB would be a better figure, the cvsup mirror is smaller, and probably fit a 9 GB disk. Traffic on a cvsup mirror is low, a ftp mirror can use lots of bandwidth when there's a new release. /Jesper -- Jesper Skriver, jesper(at)skriver(dot)dk - CCIE #5456 Work: Network manager @ AS3292 (Tele Danmark DataNetworks) Private: FreeBSD committer @ AS2109 (A much smaller network ;-) One Unix to rule them all, One Resolver to find them, One IP to bring them all and in the zone to bind them.
