This was done as root. As a general user (with group "wheel" permissions) I start X-Windows and run vmware. Again, no problems. I have even installed Windows 2000 Pro without any dramas - FDD, CDROM, it all works. The problem is with the networking. I have installed VMWare in Bridging mode - bridging off interface xl0. When setting up to install the guest o/s, the ethernet device is set up as "Host Only" (as per Hints.FreeBSD). xl0 has IP of 172.16.0.2/24 with a default gateway of 172.16.0.1. vmnet1 interface (on host o/s) has IP address of 192.168.0.1/24. Guest OS an IP address of 192.168.0.2/24 with a default gateway of 192.168.0.1 In this configuration, I'm unable to connect to ANYTHING - not the LAN, not even the host O/S. HOWEVER, if I then change Win2k's network config so that it is now 172.16.0.4/24 with a default router of 172.16.0.1, it can see the local network, can even route to other private networks, but STILL cannot see the local host O/S' network :-( My configuration is as follows: FreeBSD v4.5-RELEASE XFree86 v4.2.0 + GNOME + IceWM VMWare v2.0.4 build 1142 Windows 2000 Professional I have even gone and done a chmod g+w to /compat/linux/dev/vmnet1 so that my own user account can write to the device. Please note, that while the install was done as root, actually running vmware (and installing/using the guest o/s, etc) is all done under my own user account. I really don't want to (and shouldn't have to?) run vmware as root. If ANYONE has any hints/suggestions/further questions, please let me know! The code failed to set the cx register to 0. The second one tries to avoid a seg-fault when a dos programs calls int 10h function 0. If doscmd wasn't invoked with -x, it will currently dump core at tty.c:2201 in the call to XAllocColor because dpy is NULL. >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: Index: src/usr.bin/doscmd/cpu.c =================================================================== RCS file: /home/ncvs/src/usr.bin/doscmd/cpu.c,v retrieving revision 1.5 diff -u -r1.5 cpu.c --- src/usr.bin/doscmd/cpu.c 2 Dec 2001 13:44:05 -0000 1.5 +++ src/usr.bin/doscmd/cpu.c 20 Feb 2002 16:44:36 -0000 @@ -276,6 +276,7 @@ R_IP = --ip; /* Move IP back to the 'rep' instruction. */ return -1; } + R_CX = 0; break; default: /* Unknown instruction, get out of here and let trap.c:sigbus() Index: src/usr.bin/doscmd/int10.c =================================================================== RCS file: /home/ncvs/src/usr.bin/doscmd/int10.c,v retrieving revision 1.6 diff -u -r1.6 int10.c --- src/usr.bin/doscmd/int10.c 12 Oct 2001 10:31:00 -0000 1.6 +++ src/usr.bin/doscmd/int10.c 20 Feb 2002 16:44:13 -0000 @@ -56,6 +56,8 @@ switch (R_AH) { case 0x00: /* Set display mode */ + if (!xmode) + goto unsupported; init_mode(R_AL); break; case 0x01: /* Define cursor */ To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-emulation" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-emulation Fri Feb 22 20:26:52 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-emulation@freebsd.org Received: from mail.rpi.edu (mail.rpi.edu [128.113.22.40]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4EE0B37B404 for ; Fri, 22 Feb 2002 20:26:49 -0800 (PST) Received: from [128.113.24.47] (gilead.acs.rpi.edu [128.113.24.47]) by mail.rpi.edu (8.12.1/8.12.1) with ESMTP id g1N4QlfH038354; Fri, 22 Feb 2002 23:26:47 -0500 Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Sender: drosih@mail.rpi.edu Message-Id: In-Reply-To: <20020218080318.A339@laptop.6bone.nl> References: <20011110222046.A54582@server.vns.oc.ca.ua> <20011112072336.A60470@laptop.6bone.nl> <20020215094528.E50440@laptop.6bone.nl> <20020218080318.A339@laptop.6bone.nl> Date: Fri, 22 Feb 2002 23:26:46 -0500 To: Mark Santcroos From: Garance A Drosihn Subject: Re: Questions on Vmware2 (or vmware3?) on current Cc: Vladimir N Silyaev , emulation@FreeBSD.ORG Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" ; format="flowed" X-Scanned-By: MIMEDefang 2.3 (www dot roaringpenguin dot com slash mimedefang) Sender: owner-freebsd-emulation@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Well, I keep banging my head against this, as time permits... This is just meant as some more info to ponder, once someone has some time to look into this. Hopefully I'm not seeming like too much of a pest. As I understand the kernel config in -current, DEVFS is now the default, and you'll get it unless you specify 'options NODEVFS'. I have not specified that, so I assume I have DEVFS. After building a pretty recent current, this is all I have for the vmware-related devices: (27) ls -l /dev/vm* crw------- 1 root wheel 200, 0 Feb 22 23:11 /dev/vmmon (28) ls -l /usr/compat/linux/dev/vm* crw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 200, 0 Feb 22 23:07 /usr/compat/linux/dev/vmmon crw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 149, 0x00010001 Feb 22 23:07 /usr/compat/linux/dev/vmnet1 No symlinks anywhere, and no /dev/vmnet at all... -- Garance Alistair Drosehn = gad@eclipse.acs.rpi.edu Senior Systems Programmer or gad@freebsd.org Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute or drosih@rpi.edu To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-emulation" in the body of the message
