Moreover it is already done, as I see. The bug > in the form you describe don't exists. It is the same thing, with fr_FR.ISO8859-15 or with fr_FR.ISO8859-1. In Horde (PHP / web-based applications), the locale is set from the parameter HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE, which does not contain any variant. E.g. Kronolith (port deskutils/kronolith) is a web-based calendar, with a lot of dates and times. With a Linux server, there is no problem, and everything is well localized; with a FreeBSD server, dates are not localized. I have submitted a patch to Horde (warning! long URL) - see but it has been refused, because it's a problem specific to FreeBSD. If you apply my patch to locale.alias (or just make a `ln -s fr_FR.ISO8859-15 fr_FR` in /usr/share/locale), everything is fine. > > If we define an alias from /usr/share/locale/xx_XX to > > /usr/share/locale/xx_XX.variant, this is fixed. > > It can't be fixed in such manner since short locale names currently unused > in FreeBSD. Yes, it was the purpose of the submitted patch ;-) Is there a problem to add these short locale names? I have applied it on two machines, a server and a desktop, running a lot of localized programs, and I have not seen any problem: I have not removed neither replaced anything, these are just new aliases.
