This is the second update to the IA64 Project page following Marcel's revision. Ok, the following are the changes I have made: o s/Pointers Of Interest/Pointers of Interest/ o Add a section called 'Documentation and Whitepapers' o Add a section called 'Latest System Message Buffer' =09 o Add David O'Brien to the credits list as he has done=20 some purty good work!. 8) Now, there is a quirk in the dmesg(1) output stuff which I was talking about in teh thread before with Marcel. To do things cleanly, and to have less pain, I have added the following: %%% =2E..

%%% Basically, what that will do is it will read the stuff of an entity called &msgbuf, and dump its content into that section, but instead of parsing it as SGML, it will parse it as normal data. Now, for this to work, we will have to include a file called 'dmesg.ia64' in the www/en/platforms/ directory inorder for this to read it. I think it is clean way for seperating the big dmesg from the page, and it will also allow us to cleanly update the dmesg when newer one is available. If this is not a valid option for some odd reason which I cant think of, than I am willing to hold the dmesg(1) files in my webspace on http://storm.uk.FreeBSD.org/~hiten. Thanks. Looking forward for comments. P.S. Once this diff is approved and possibly committed, I will send my part 2, 3 and all the rest to keep the ia64 page updated! 8) --=20 Hiten Pandya http://storm.uk.FreeBSD.org/~hiten Finger hiten@storm.uk.FreeBSD.org for PGP public key -- 4FB9 C4A9 4925 CF97 9BF3 ADDA 861D 5DBD E4E3 03C3=20 --k+w/mQv8wyuph6w0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="ia64.sgml.diff" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Index: en/platforms/ia64.sgml =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D RCS file: /home/ncvs/www/en/platforms/ia64.sgml,v retrieving revision 1.8 diff -u -r1.8 ia64.sgml --- en/platforms/ia64.sgml 2002/06/02 08:50:41 1.8 +++ en/platforms/ia64.sgml 2002/06/02 15:39:15 @@ -4,6 +4,7 @@ %includes; + ]> =20 @@ -26,7 +27,9 @@

Sorry for getting back to you so late, but I tried it myself and I get as far as the mountroot prompt. I don't have a filesystem I can use right now, so before I try that, can you tell me if you can mount the root filesystem or if the panic happens earlier? The panic happens if filesystem exists. I tracked down the problem as below. If filesystem exists, clock(RTC or TOD) is read in mountroot- path as: vfs_mountroot() -> inittodr -> ski_fake_efi_get_time() ski_fake_efi_get_time() calles ssc() and it executes break instruction to get RTC from ski. When execute break, some address range on ski's data window become 'xxxx' and after then, the value of such address is read as ZERO. This ZERO cause unaligned access in binuptime() later. I looked into Linux kernel source and found that Linux does not use SSC_GET_RTC. It use SSC_GET_TOD instead. So, I modified ski_fake_efi_get_time() to use SSC_GET_TOD as Linux and get another panic at start_init. I think the SSC_GET_TOD function makes it rather an involved change. Also, the SSC_GET_TOD call needs a second argument (pointer to struct timezone). The Linux port of ski gratuitously allows passing a NULL-pointer for the second arg. Probably because it's not used in Linux in the first place. This you get by doing a 'make buildworld' first. The error output indicates that you're using the i386 compiler: > cc1: invalid option `fixed-range=f32-f127' > In file included from /data/dev/src/sys/sys/types.h:49, > from /data/dev/src/sys/sys/param.h:65, > from /data/dev/src/sys/ia64/ia64/genassym.c:40: > machine/endian.h: In function `__bswap32': > machine/endian.h:86: warning: right shift count >= width of type > machine/endian.h: In function `__bswap16': > machine/endian.h:93: warning: right shift count >= width of type > machine/pte.h: At top level: -- Marcel Moolenaar USPA: A-39004 marcel@xcllnt.net To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ia64" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-ia64 Fri Jun 7 10: 2:51 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.FreeBSD.org [216.136.204.21]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 75AA637B430 for ; Fri, 7 Jun 2002 10:00:33 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from fenner@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.11.6/8.11.6) id g57H0IT45175 for freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org; Fri, 7 Jun 2002 10:00:18 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from fenner) Date: Fri, 7 Jun 2002 10:00:18 -0700 (PDT) From: Message-Id: <200206071700.g57H0IT45175@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org Subject: FreeBSD ports: 1 unfetchable distfiles: emulators/ski Sender: owner-freebsd-ia64@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Dear freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org, You are listed as the FreeBSD port maintainer for 1 port whose distfiles [or main web pages] are not fetchable from their MASTER_SITES. Could you please visit http://people.freebsd.org/~fenner/portsurvey/freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org.html and correct the problems listed there? The individual port with a problem is emulators/ski. Note that the main port web page, as listed in the WWW: line of the pkg-descr, is checked just as though it was a port distfile. This is an unfortunate side effect of the architecture of the distfile survey reporting system, but if you see a distfile being reported as not fetchable that's not actually a distfile, see if it's from the pkg-descr. If you have already corrected the problems and submitted a PR, please accept my thanks and apologies for the delay in getting the fixes into the tree. This reminder is created automatically and does not (yet) have a way to know if a PR fixing the problem has been submitted. Please do *NOT* submit your response to me directly; I do not always have time to commit your fix; please instead submit a PR via 'send-pr' so it doesn't get lost. Problems are usually of two types: 1. The software package has been upgraded and the version in the port has been removed. The best solution to this problem is to upgrade the port to the most current version of the software package. If you are a FreeBSD committer, then you can just upgrade the port directly. If not, you should create the new port on your own system, test it (and maybe even run "portlint" on it), and then use "send-pr" to submit a "diff -uNr old-port new-port". If you added or deleted any files, please make an explicit note of it. 2. The mirror site being used no longer contains the software package in question, or no longer exists. Solutions include: a) If there are other mirror sites, just remove the bad site from the list. (Make sure that what appears to be a bad site isn't actually a problem of type 1, upgrade) b) If the README or other support files in the software documentation mention where to get the software package, use one of those sites. c) Use ftpsearch (http://ftpsearch.ntnu.no/ftpsearch) or other search engines to find another place to get the original DISTFILES. Make sure that you don't pick a FreeBSD distfiles mirror -- if you can't find any other places where the file exists, it can be a LOCAL_PORT or you can simply comment out the MASTER_SITES= line, with a comment explaining why. Once you have a solution, use "send-pr" to submit a "diff -u" of the Makefile. Note that this isn't an urgent issue, as people who try to build the port now will just fall back to the FreeBSD distfiles mirror. Please just put it on your list to do and get to it when you have time. These messages will continue to arrive twice a month until the fix is committed, as a reminder. Thanks, Bill "distfiles" Fenner. As far as I know, I have done the same thing using two different approaches: o xski skiload o ski skiload But the problem is, it provides me with an error saying "Unknown OS ABI (9)" or something like that, and it errors out. The following are the commands I used to build the skiload, and the whole ia64-world: make world TARGET_ARCH=ia64 TARGET=ia64 -DNOSHARE -DNOINFO -DNOGAMES \ MAKEOBJDIRPREFIX=/c2/ia64 DESTDIR=/c2/build -DCPUTYPE=itanium (the above make command made world perfectly) make kernel KERNCONF=SKI TARGET=ia64 -DNO_MODULES=yes This also made the kernel perfectly without problems; and I also checked if the resulting object files, and binaries were ia64 ELF types; and fortunately they were (file output was given in original post). After trying the above commands and gaining failure, and also trying to find some reasonable docs on SKI and failing; I tried to use 'romload' in SKI to load skiload, but that when run dumps core, although I am sure that is not the correct way of doing it (using romload). ;) Is there something wrong I have done in this. NOTE: This ia64 world was made in a fresh "GCC-3" environment; and I am guessing it could be because of that, but I am not sure that this would be the problem. Help is very appreciated. Thanks in Advance. -- Hiten __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Aarrgghh. The new GCC emits object files with OSABI set to FreeBSD (=9). Linux ski only knows about SysV (=0) and HP-UX (=1). Linux uses SysV and we used that too before the new GCC. I'll see if we can create object files with OSABI equal to SysV... I'm back again... Yes, this is the simplest solution and it works on -current as well. I don't expect we can create SysV objects at all. I haven't looked though. I'll commit a change to the makefile when I have a moment again...
