I did this awhile ago, and just moved it from the "want on disc1" to "required by sysinstall on disc1" part of the package split list (basically a no-op, but it's better documentation). On the one hand the log is promising. The machine appears to be the same as the prototypes we have been using. The bad thing about the log is that it tells us that the trap happens way too early. Even before we can see what the chipset is or if the box is a multi-processor machine. Then again, it does rule out a lot and the most likely cause seems to be ACPI. Normally after FPSWA we get something like: Table 'FACP' at 0xe00000007ffd8070 Table 'APIC' at 0xe00000007ffda000 Local APIC entry : It looks to me that we're expecting that certain pointers are valid and end up dereferencing NULL pointers. There are a couple of things we can try (if you like, of course :-) 1. Download 5.0-RC1. We released it this weekend and it should gradually appear on FreeBSD mirrors. It would be good to know if the problem still exists in RC1 so that we can try to fix it before we official release 5.0 (scheduled Januari 10). If I remember correctly, we have a new ACPI code drop that may fix this... 2. Boot Red Hat or Windows XP and try to get as detailed a dump of ACPI as possible. I'm not sure either Red Hat or Windows has any tools to dump the ACPI tables, but it would definitely help. In the mean time, I'll try to get my hands on the i2000 specs. If all else fails, I can install Red Hat on my machine and create an ACPI dumping tool that you can then use under Red Hat. Thank you so far. I would say that anything you cannot do on your own is not going to help the project at this time. Since you don't have an ia64 machine, there's not really that much you can contribute right now. However, if you find something valuable to do for FreeBSD, you could earn commit privileges. This would give you access to an ia64 machine and that would open many more doors (assuming you haven't found another way to gain access to an ia64 machine). Given the above, one could start a career as ports committer. By using cross-compilation you may be able to validate ports for ia64 and send patches to the maintainers. You would probably only test building. Running is a different issue. Another option is a career as docs committer. You could for example host the FreeBSD ia64 project pages; set it up and maintain it. It won't be long before people realize that your pages should be made the official FreeBSD pages (because ours are pathetic :-). If you use the FreeBSD tools to build the pages, you gain experience with that as well. The nice thing about the docs approach is that you build knowledge as well. This definitely speeds up getting your hands dirty on all the low-level stuff. Anyway: This advice doesn't apply to you alone and my suggestions are not the only options. Key in this is that you have to find a way to reduce our work. That way you'll be part of the project before you can say bummer! :-) -- Marcel Moolenaar USPA: A-39004 marcel@xcllnt.net To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ia64" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-ia64 Tue Dec 10 11: 0:24 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C09CF37B401 for ; Tue, 10 Dec 2002 11:00:23 -0800 (PST) Received: from kayak.xcllnt.net (209-128-86-226.bayarea.net [209.128.86.226]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2530F43EC2 for ; Tue, 10 Dec 2002 11:00:23 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from marcel@xcllnt.net) Received: from dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net (dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net [192.168.4.201]) by kayak.xcllnt.net (8.12.6/8.12.6) with ESMTP id gBAJ0MrT046526; Tue, 10 Dec 2002 11:00:22 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from marcel@kayak.pn.xcllnt.net) Received: from dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net (8.12.6/8.12.6) with ESMTP id gBAJ0mPg013028; Tue, 10 Dec 2002 11:00:48 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from marcel@dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net) Received: (from marcel@localhost) by dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net (8.12.6/8.12.6/Submit) id gBAJ0e8L013027; Tue, 10 Dec 2002 11:00:40 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from marcel) Date: Tue, 10 Dec 2002 11:00:40 -0800 From: Marcel Moolenaar To: yokase@lapis.plala.or.jp Cc: freebsd-ia64@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: Console log (Re: 5.0-DP2 panics on i2000) Message-ID: <20021210190040.GB12721@dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net> References: <20021211013905475.yokase@lapis.mail.plala.or.jp> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20021211013905475.yokase@lapis.mail.plala.or.jp> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.1i Sender: owner-freebsd-ia64@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Wed, Dec 11, 2002 at 01:39:03AM +0900, yokase@lapis.plala.or.jp wrote: > > i2000 is probably Intel W460GXBS2 based. Yes I've run into this myself with the i386 releases. For release candidates and such, I've taken to downloading just what I need to (packages) and then rebuilding my own release to match the one built remotely on the freebsd-current.sentex.ca machines. I then assemble the ISO image on my local network and test it, and if it is OK, I assemble the ISO image on freebsd-current.sentex.ca the same way. I would be uncomfortable doing that for the absolutely final release, but for release candidates and things where getting the release into peoples hands quickly is imperative, I think it works well. It saves 5 hours or so of transferring the output of make release from my home network to ftp-master, but I still have to download the packages if I want to test those with the release. Obviously, this model is ideal if your downstream is quicker than your upstream connection. - Murray To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ia64" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-ia64 Tue Dec 10 12:48:36 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1201437B406; Tue, 10 Dec 2002 12:48:35 -0800 (PST) Received: from angelica.unixdaemons.com (angelica.unixdaemons.com [209.148.64.135]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DC95F43EC2; Tue, 10 Dec 2002 12:48:33 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from hiten@angelica.unixdaemons.com) Received: from angelica.unixdaemons.com (hiten@localhost.unixdaemons.com [127.0.0.1]) by angelica.unixdaemons.com (8.12.6/8.12.1) with ESMTP id gBAKm8Sf087522; Tue, 10 Dec 2002 15:48:08 -0500 (EST) Received: (from hiten@localhost) by angelica.unixdaemons.com (8.12.6/8.12.1/Submit) id gBAKm8hp087521; Tue, 10 Dec 2002 15:48:08 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from hiten) Date: Tue, 10 Dec 2002 15:48:08 -0500 From: Hiten Pandya To: Bill distfiles Fenner Cc: freebsd-ia64@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: FreeBSD ports: 1 unfetchable distfiles: emulators/ski Message-ID: <20021210204808.GA84043@angelica.unixdaemons.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="pf9I7BMVVzbSWLtt" Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.4i X-Operating-System: FreeBSD i386 X-Public-Key: http://www.pittgoth.com/~hiten/pubkey.asc X-URL: http://www.unixdaemons.com/~hiten X-PGP: http://pgp.mit.edu:11371/pks/lookup?search=Hiten+Pandya&op=index Sender: owner-freebsd-ia64@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org --pf9I7BMVVzbSWLtt Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline --- Bill distfiles Fenner wrote: > You are listed as the FreeBSD port maintainer for 1 port > whose distfiles [or main web pages] are not fetchable from their > MASTER_SITES.
