I have never really been happy with my SBLive! and am i nthe market for a new card. I have read a couple of places that the Muse XL is a decent card which is not incredibly expensive (I only need analog output). So is the Muse XL supported well in -current by the pcm driver? Does it mix well with SMP systems? Also in -current does the pcm driver support multi-open of /dev/dsp for the Muse XL as it does for the SBLive!? Thanks for any information. To use pcm1, make sure your /dev/dsp symlink points in the right direction (to /dev/dsp1 as opposed to /dev/dsp0). # cd /dev # ./MAKEDEV snd1 should set all the symlinks correctly. Got an old laptop, Highscreen 486, 8 MB (or 7 plus 640 etc), where 2.1.7 from ftp.ru.freebsd.org (thanks to Russia) is running now. There is sound on board. Saw the many options. Do I have to go try and error or is there a better strategy ? Could those old drivers record ? H.
