It should work with most monitors, the only issue is that some frequencies are more difficult than others, aka a Creator3d does VESA 1280x768 but the 1600x1024 does funky Sun stuff. So which frequency works depends on how compatible your monitor is. But there probably is a frequency that works. The frequencies for your specific vid card should be listed on sun.com. The only way of changing them without solaris, is afaik messing in the prom. Have you ever had it hooked up to a Sun monitor? If this is a used ss20 you bought cheap or found it probably doesn't have any VSIMMs installed so the integrated SX framebuffer won't work. If you've got any cheap 8 bit framebuffers laying around, you might try one of those to make sure the adapter is ok. Here's the meat of it anyway: white on boack: echo "\033[q\c" > /dev/console black on white: echo "\033[p\c" > /dev/console No idea what does the actual interpretation of the codes, if it's Solaris driver, you're probably still stuck. I'm not sure where to start, though. Soren was working on the dc driver, I haven't heard anything about it in a while though. If you'd like to work on converting the driver to busdma I doubt you will be getting in his way. I know that at least openbsd has a dc driver that works on sparc64 and I'm fairly sure that what they started with is the wpaul driver we have, but I don't know how much they've diverged; that's a place to start. The hme and gem drivers both use busdma, so they are probably good references, but they weren't converted from non-busdma drivers so there aren't before and after diffs to look at. I'm also not sure what thats referering to but I know that doesn't seem to affect the operation of dhclient because I know this from testing it on my laptop with another dhcp server and ip's detect fine.. the only thing is, is I can't seem to obtain an ip from my ISP when a Windows machine detects it almost instantly and I'm not sure why. my sparc64 kernel is compiled with options IPDIVERT options IPFIREWALL options IPFIREWALL_VERBOSE options IPFIREWALL_FORWARD which are quite standard options. I've not seen that error, but I've had similiar woes: I had an ISP a while back with which I essentially had a static address, though I had to periodically "refresh" using DHCP. This was convenient for gateway changes (which were frequent). Anyways, MS's DHCP client always passes the hostname as part of the request. To get this to work on FreeBSD, I had to set this parameter in the dhclient.conf (I don't remember the parameter) using the hostname that was supplied by my ISP.
