The system booted find except during the install I kept getting errors about not being able to download / extract all sorts of thing. These I answered with (N)o retry and eventually got the system installed. I am not sure if the stuff is actually missing or not ! Could some kind sole please explain how this efi partition and FreeBSD are meant to fit together. I eventually installed on the first disk with what I hoped would be an efi partition p1 and freeBSD in p2. I was unable to find a device file for p1 hence could not mount it to install the loader/kernel. My solution was to edit /etc/fstab, moving everything to disk2 and swap disk1 and disk2. I then installed an empty efi using the linux enablement kit from HP; mounted it and copied /boot to where it was needed. That depends on what the 'all sort of things' actually constitute. > Could some kind sole please explain how this efi partition and > FreeBSD are meant to fit together. The keyword is MBR. Our installer has hardcoded the notion of slicing and partitioning. The quickest solution for us was to create an MBR instead of a GPT, even though we will recognize any existing GPTs. What we definitely need to do for 5.1 is to create a GPT. THis probably involves translating the 2-leveled partitioning into a single level partitioning. I haven't given it much thought other than that we really need a replacement for sysinstall. At this time things are pretty messy when there's already a GPT and EFI partition on the disk. > PS how is the SMP-VHPT stuff getting on or should I disable the 2nd Processor? SMP doesn't work yet. We seem to have a locking problem, that prevents booting either single or multi-user mode. Any VHPT problems we have now are not even an issue :-) The same code works on the BigSur, so I think we have an unfortunate mix of exceptions that probably include a page fault on the HP box we don't have on the BigSur... -- Marcel Moolenaar USPA: A-39004 marcel@xcllnt.net To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ia64" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-ia64 Tue Mar 25 15:32:37 2003 Delivered-To: freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DA3CA37B409 for ; Tue, 25 Mar 2003 15:32:20 -0800 (PST) Received: from palrel11.hp.com (palrel11.hp.com [156.153.255.246]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 091DB440FC for ; Tue, 25 Mar 2003 15:29:52 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from jim.harritt@hp.com) Received: from trinidad.cv.hp.com (trinidad.cv.hp.com [15.253.4.147]) by palrel11.hp.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id AF4F91C02237; Tue, 25 Mar 2003 15:29:51 -0800 (PST) Received: by trinidad.cv.hp.com (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 697652319F; Fri, 21 Mar 2003 14:01:43 -0800 (PST) Subject: Re: Development snapshot updated From: Jim Harritt Reply-To: jim.harritt@hp.com To: Marcel Moolenaar Cc: ia64@FreeBSD.org In-Reply-To: <20030320083457.GA25362@dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net> References: <20030320083457.GA25362@dhcp01.pn.xcllnt.net> Content-Type: text/plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Organization: HP - MSDD SDI CCS CS Message-Id: <1048284101.4694.2.camel@trinidad.cv.hp.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Ximian Evolution 1.2.2 Date: 21 Mar 2003 14:01:42 -0800 X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-32.4 required=5.0 tests=EMAIL_ATTRIBUTION,IN_REP_TO,QUOTED_EMAIL_TEXT,REFERENCES, REPLY_WITH_QUOTES,USER_AGENT_XIMIAN autolearn=ham version=2.50 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.50 (1.173-2003-02-20-exp) Sender: owner-freebsd-ia64@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Thu, 2003-03-20 at 00:34, Marcel Moolenaar wrote: > Gang, > > I updated the development snapshot on ftp2.freebsd.org and *ONLY* > on ftp2.freebsd.org.
