The problem is not ia64 specific, as I first assumed. /usr/libexec/elf/ld: /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/alpha-portbld-freebsd4.8/3.2.2/libobjc.a(class.o): gp-relative relocation against dynamic symbol _objc_lookup_class I need the libobjc.so which I get from the gcc32 ports instead. I came up with the following list of items (from the top of my head -- roughly in order of priority): 1. Fix the installer to create a GPT instead of an MBR. This solves most of the post-install problems people are having and makes FreeBSD play nice if other OSes already exist. 2. Fix the loader to not hardcode fs0, so that we can install from CD when an AFI partition already exists. Arun has some patches for this already. 3. Finish the EPC syscall implementation and related overhaul. This is a biggy and may not be finished in time, but we really need it if we want to have threading (our current setjmp/longjmp based context switching does not work for the 1:1 and M:N threading implementations. Also, it's a big ABI breaker, so I'd rather have it behind us... 4. Validate the new XFree86-4.3.0 port. Porting the X server would be nice (I already started this, but higher priority work preempted the effort). 5. Fix SMP on the HP boxes. Other random bits and pieces that are a PITA: o Fix the bloody USB on the freakin' BigSur o Port gdb(1) Feedback is appreciated. Anybody willing to attack the first 2 items, should not hesitate giving it a shot (just let everybody know so that we don't have people doing the same thing). -- Marcel Moolenaar USPA: A-39004 marcel@xcllnt.net From owner-freebsd-ia64@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Apr 16 20:26:35 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 21DAD37B401 for ; Wed, 16 Apr 2003 20:26:35 -0700 (PDT) Received: from rwcrmhc51.attbi.com (rwcrmhc51.attbi.com [204.127.198.38]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7326543F85 for ; Wed, 16 Apr 2003 20:26:34 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from bmah@employees.org) Received: from bmah.dyndns.org (12-240-204-110.client.attbi.com[12.240.204.110]) by rwcrmhc51.attbi.com (rwcrmhc51) with ESMTP id <2003041703263305100hstjce>; Thu, 17 Apr 2003 03:26:33 +0000 Received: from intruder.bmah.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by bmah.dyndns.org (8.12.9/8.12.9) with ESMTP id h3H3QQxV045932; Wed, 16 Apr 2003 20:26:27 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from bmah@intruder.bmah.org) Message-Id: <200304170326.h3H3QQxV045932@bmah.dyndns.org> X-Mailer: exmh version 2.6.3 04/04/2003 with nmh-1.0.4 To: Marcel Moolenaar In-Reply-To: <20030416225814.GB985@athlon.pn.xcllnt.net> References: <20030416225814.GB985@athlon.pn.xcllnt.net> Comments: In-reply-to Marcel Moolenaar message dated "Wed, 16 Apr 2003 15:58:14 -0700." The two major work items here would be: o Write the processor-specific section. This is the part that currently reads "Need to write this part." :-p o Go over the list of supported devices (maybe with the i386 version for comparison) and make it conform to reality. I lack ia64 fu (haven't even seen one of these things) but as the chief instigator of RELNOTESng, I can advise. Thanks for any help!
