The same page works in Linux, also with Mozilla (1.2.1) on my colleague's machine, it pops up a dialog to grant write permission to the signed applet. I've compared the Java version (1.3.1) and any security related files in $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/security, they are all the same. The difference is that my colleague uses Linux with the Linux browser and JDK, and I use FreeBSD with the FreeBSD browser and FreeBSD native jdk (1.3.1p7). I have also tried to explicitly import SUN's certificate from http://java.sun.com/security/signExample12/Duke.x509 using keytool. With the certificate imported, the applet DOES WORK. It is just the default behaviour that is different, with unknown certificates. The Linux version pops up the dialog asking the user, the FreeBSD version throws the exception and fails. Is there a way to configure this? Is it a difference in the Java ports? In the Mozilla ports? -- Regards, Georg. For jdk 1.3.x (that definetaly needs X) a good solution is X Virtual Frame Buffer (xvfb). You run it like : % Xvfb :1 -screen 0 800x600x24 & and then in your tomcat/jboss/jetty (your favorite app server) start up script you add export DISPLAY=unix:1.0 (i use server side awt, with no problem, xvfb actually gets graphics drawn faster than X running on a real graphics card) > > this is what i have tested. > > enviroment variables: > > both JAVA_OPTS and CATALINA_OPTS set to -Djava.awt.headless=true (tested > both individually and together) > > code: > > System.setProperty("java.awt.headless", "true"); > > none of these methods works 100%, during my tests, it works from time to > time, but i cant recreate so that it will work allways. is there anybody > else that have had the same problems, and if then, what was the solution? > > .f > > To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org > with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message > ================================================================== Achilleus Mantzios S/W Engineer IT dept Dynacom Tankers Mngmt Nikis 4, Glyfada Athens 16610 Greece tel: +30-10-8981112 fax: +30-10-8981877 email: achill@matrix.gatewaynet.com mantzios@softlab.ece.ntua.gr To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Thu Jan 16 1:53: 2 2003 Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DD80F37B401 for ; Thu, 16 Jan 2003 01:52:58 -0800 (PST) Received: from gddsn.org.cn (mail.gddsn.org.cn [210.21.6.33]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 19B7943F65 for ; Thu, 16 Jan 2003 01:52:58 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from wsk@ns.gddsn.org.cn) Received: from mail.gddsn.org.cn (unknown [192.168.168.4]) by gddsn.org.cn (Postfix) with ESMTP id 53EF038CBCE for ; Thu, 16 Jan 2003 17:52:50 +0800 (CST) Message-ID: <3E268198.2010401@mail.gddsn.org.cn> Date: Thu, 16 Jan 2003 17:55:36 +0800 From: Suken Woo User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD i386; zh-CN; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020912 X-Accept-Language: zh MIME-Version: 1.0 To: java@freebsd.org Subject: jdk1.3.1 bug? May it bring us FreeBSD-5.0-RELEASE and a final release for Sun's JDK 1.3 (hotspot flavor) ;) I will be using dom4j for the next project here at work. I was feeling like porting it to the ports collections. Then I remembered the trove4j (high performance collections) port I submited half-november 2002 is still waiting for someone to accept (or reject) it. I know there is some policy about new ports regarding 5.0-RELEASE, so my question is : should I wait 5.0 release before posting any new patch or is there a way to speed things up (by sending ports directly to someone from freebsd-java for example ) ? It will hang if the application just expects to fall off the end of whatever main() method is being used. This is almost certainly a problem in Linux emulation. Your choices are that, the HotSpot errors from Sun's JDK, fixing the Linux emulation layer or contributing to the fledgling native port of 1.4. -- Greg Lewis Email : glewis@eyesbeyond.com Eyes Beyond Web : http://www.eyesbeyond.com Information Technology FreeBSD : glewis@FreeBSD.org To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Sat Jan 18 6:29: 5 2003 Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2203E37B401 for ; Sat, 18 Jan 2003 06:28:56 -0800 (PST) Received: from post.webmailer.de (natsmtp01.webmailer.de [192.67.198.81]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7A6A943EB2 for ; Sat, 18 Jan 2003 06:28:54 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from t.ruschival@vivid-md.de) Received: from Beastie.wickednode.loc (dsl-213-023-056-137.arcor-ip.net [213.23.56.137]) by post.webmailer.de (8.9.3/8.8.7) with SMTP id PAA07580 for ; Sat, 18 Jan 2003 15:28:13 +0100 (MET) Date: Sat, 18 Jan 2003 15:29:30 +0100 From: Thomas Ruschival To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Subject: Nonreproducable error Message-Id: <20030118152930.459d664a.t.ruschival@vivid-md.de> X-Mailer: Sylpheed version 0.8.6claws (GTK+ 1.2.10; i386-portbld-freebsd4.7) Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; micalg="pgp-sha1"; boundary="=.TOgTjB8jLsatnx" Sender: owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org --=.TOgTjB8jLsatnx Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi, I have a selfwritten Java-tool for managing addresses that are stored in an oracle 9i Database. To access the Data I use JDBC with oracle specific drivers (included with the oracle Distribution) but thats not the problem where it crashes. A third of all starts of the Application everything works. When I close the application and restart it (in the same terminal with the same command) it might crash. Its definitely a FreeBSD-Java Problem, the same Bytecode works under Linux(JDK 1.3.1), Linux(JDK 1.4.0) WinXP (JDK 1.4.0) and at the Uni I tried it even under Solaris (JDK 1.3.1) it worked on all platforms. I am running FreeBSD 4.7 with JDK-1.3.1. - well I I found out the only time it works is the first time after login, when a new XServerprocess is running.
