Once I do the first reboot I get the following: Mounting root from ufs:/dev/ad0s1a swapon: adding /dev/ad0s1b as swap device Automatic boot in progress... Then I get all the slice (ad0s1a,f,g,e) messages with "FILESYSTEM CLEAN: SKIPPING CHECKS", then the problem starts: pid 17 (mount), uid 0: exited on signal 10 Bus error Mounting /etc/fstab filesystems failed, startup aborted Then it just asks me the path of a shell. Bus error leads me to believe it is hardware, but I am not sure of that, it's a brand new motherboard, and if the install completes, how all of a sudden is there a bus error?? And for low-level kernel stuff ASM is necessary. BTW this is probably not the right list for this question. freebsd-questions@freebsd.org is for general things like that. The main goal was to be able to do all the MBR manipulation from the command line, to be portable across all unix platform using libc, to work alone, to be as small and simple as possible and to be easy to maintain and extend. I did it. Program: - do anything the exiting fdisk(8) do and even more(also more to come). - compiles, run and work on any sane unix platform with standard libc. - has no need for anything else than "/bin/sh" and "/usr/lib/libc*". - is 10 times smaller. - in pure C. - has no struct. I tested it, but you know I might have forget some details or even do things better. Please review the code, the structure, the functionality and the error possibility. I accept any (good and/or bad) feedback if its constructive. Thanks for taking the time to do so and if you don't thanks anyway... Machine: Pentium MMX 233Mhz, BIOS from 1997, hanging to recognize the 120GB IDE disk. I had to close that 32GB limit jumper on disk, to continue the boot. Q: How to make FreeBSD recognize the total disk capacity? Trying FreeBSD 4.7-RELEASE. Set the BIOS to "Not Installed" or somethin' like that. Remove the 32gig jumper. If the FreeBSD has a direkt access to the controller it will recognize, but of course you can't boot it. Otherwise, you should make the slices and partitions on a machine, that fully support your disk. Hope the BSD will recognize it. I think i read that these cards works in PCI 2.1 comp. slots only, but i can't remember whether it was USB2.0 or IDE sorry. Anyhow, check it out, to be sure. Bios flash will be enough for 75 GB, or 32 GB in the worst case. In my opinion, a good workaround is if you boot from a below 8 GB disk, then use 120GB one. Rather than buy a new promise card as someone recommended, get a new mobo/cpu. Even a secondhand 440bx -PIII pair should be a good deal. Rgrds
