It might just be using a PCI ID that the rl driver doesn't know about. Run "pciconf -lv", find your card, and note the chip= value. The first 4 digits are the device ID, and the last 4 are the vendor ID. Add them to /sys/pci/if_rlreg.h (search for VENDORID) and to /sys/pci/if_rl.c (search for rl_devs), rebuild your kernel, and reboot. If it works, submit a pr with the info so it can be added to the next release. -- Dan Nelson dnelson@allantgroup.com From owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jul 27 02:31:09 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from green.homeunix.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0038A16A4CE; Tue, 27 Jul 2004 02:31:08 +0000 (GMT) Received: from green.homeunix.org (green@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by green.homeunix.org (8.12.11/8.12.11) with ESMTP id i6R2V84F099874; Mon, 26 Jul 2004 22:31:08 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from green@green.homeunix.org) Received: (from green@localhost) by green.homeunix.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i6R2V6nh099873; Mon, 26 Jul 2004 22:31:07 -0400 (EDT) (envelope-from green) Date: Mon, 26 Jul 2004 22:31:06 -0400 From: Brian Fundakowski Feldman To: Patrick Hurrelmann Message-ID: <20040727023106.GD96815@green.homeunix.org> References: <40921E4B.3080609@bytephobia.de> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <40921E4B.3080609@bytephobia.de> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.6i cc: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org cc: freebsd-current@freebsd.org cc: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Prism54 Chipsets Supported? Maybe ath is an alternative to wi, but i'd relly prefer > wi (802.11g or a is a must have). Please check out: Note that this may well not compile on 5.2.1-RELEASE, just -CURRENT (and certainly not -STABLE). Seat belts are not included, but I have taken great lengths to make this what I belive to be one of the most inherently stable drivers on FreeBSD. Currently working are: ad-hoc mode, infrastracture mode, and HostAP (firmware-based) mode. WEP support works fine, but radiotap and promiscuous mode are not implemented. I can't find any PCI cards for sure that have Prism GT/Prism Duette chipsets (note that the Prism Nitro ones certainly won't work yet, but I don't know how much work it is to support them). I'm using NetGear WG511 CardBus cards, but haven't tried doing suspend/resume support yet. Notably absent are HostAP management features (listing associated clients, kicking them off, associating with 802.1x) and the support for TKIP. Still, it's nice having an 802.11 card that can do over 20Mbit/s and not take all your CPU time to do it. -- Brian Fundakowski Feldman \'[ FreeBSD ]''''''''''\ <> green@FreeBSD.org \ The Power to Serve! \ Opinions expressed are my own. \,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,\ From owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jul 27 03:45:40 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B264816A4CE for ; Tue, 27 Jul 2004 03:45:40 +0000 (GMT) Received: from smtp1.adl2.internode.on.net (smtp1.adl2.internode.on.net [203.16.214.181]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0ECC143D3F for ; Tue, 27 Jul 2004 03:45:40 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from Shane@007Marketing.com) Received: from [192.168.8.50] (ppp42-122.lns1.adl1.internode.on.net [150.101.42.122])i6R3jb4Y063017 for ; Tue, 27 Jul 2004 13:15:38 +0930 (CST) User-Agent: Microsoft-Entourage/10.1.4.030702.0 Date: Tue, 27 Jul 2004 13:16:46 +0930 From: Shane Ambler To: FreeBSD Mailing Lists Message-ID: In-Reply-To: <000601c4737e$21c5ef30$0501a8c0@kojo> Mime-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Subject: Re: US BC001 X-BeenThere: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: General discussion of FreeBSD hardware List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 27 Jul 2004 03:45:40 -0000 rl is for the realtek 8129/8139 (this would be 8139A and 8139B) there is also re used for realtek 8139C+/8169/8169S/8110S. We're very happy with the Cyclades ACS series (we get them with dual power & 48 ports); the older TS series should be cheaper. They run Linux & sshd, and can log all traffic on the port automatically (ours always keep the last 10240 characters). Many thanks for your fast answer!!! I'm not really sure that "any controller" will work... Because in the manpage of the iir driver: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=iir&sektion=4&manpath=FreeBSD+5.2.1-RELEASE is written: "and all versions of the ICP Vortex controllers (including FC)." I think FC stands for Fibre Channel like your controller but the GDT6527 have no FC... Does this "including" mean: - all controllers with and without FC or - all controllers with FC??? I hope that it works otherwise I will have to try the vortex driver and the GDT6527RP... IT IS only a preliminary port as much work needs to be done, but if someone needs it for testing, it is available at: http://freebsd.rogness.net/ports/touchkit/touchkit-port.tar To install: > tar -xvpPf touchkit-port.tar > cd /usr/ports/sysutils/touchkit && make install Still need to clean it up and get the xf86drv crap working right. Once that happens, I will submit it. I'm assuming that it probably needs to be done at or before the uep code gets put in the main source. Nick Rogness - How many people here have telekenetic powers? Although the PM25 are cheap, nice and small, the cables with them are very specific, and are sort of a mess to keep undamaged. Pinning is too fine, so they bend easily. You really need to thighten then well in their sockets, which usually results in destroying the plastic top of the connector-screws when undoing them... So I would suggest getting a proper fresh set of cables with them. Other than that Portmasters were a great thing, to bad they had to be ruined by guys that wanted to dominate the market by killing competitors. --WjW From owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Jul 28 02:15:14 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 70C5216A51E; Wed, 28 Jul 2004 02:15:14 +0000 (GMT) Received: from carver.gumbysoft.com (carver.gumbysoft.com [66.220.23.50]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4FE9A43D54; Wed, 28 Jul 2004 02:15:14 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from dwhite@gumbysoft.com) Received: by carver.gumbysoft.com (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 43FFA72DF2; Tue, 27 Jul 2004 19:15:14 -0700 (PDT) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by carver.gumbysoft.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3EF8972DB5; Tue, 27 Jul 2004 19:15:14 -0700 (PDT) Date: Tue, 27 Jul 2004 19:15:14 -0700 (PDT) From: Doug White To: Alexander Motin In-Reply-To: Message-ID: <20040727190430.C45805@carver.gumbysoft.com> References: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII cc: freebsd-current@freebsd.org cc: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Subject: Re: USB mouse buttons X-BeenThere: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: General discussion of FreeBSD hardware List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 28 Jul 2004 02:15:14 -0000 On Mon, 26 Jul 2004, Alexander Motin wrote: > I have Logitech MX510 mouse with 8 buttons. You'll have to use the mapping feature to cram that down to the 10 you want, if you have a device with more than 10 buttons. Try upping that to 20-something and rebuilding things and see what you get. FC means Fibre Chanel. It have no sence for the system if the controller is FC or SATA or SCSI. For the system point of view RAID/Disc connection arhitecture is hidden. As far as I know the only physical problem with motherboards and 1U cases is onboard sound with sound ports sitting vertical. This board will also be bought from the UK so a board that can be sourced from a UK supplier is a big plus :) Regards, Will From owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Jul 28 15:28:05 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0E15416A4CE for ; Wed, 28 Jul 2004 15:28:05 +0000 (GMT) Received: from salvador.pacific.net.sg (salvador.pacific.net.sg [203.120.90.219]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id D5F4B43D6E for ; Wed, 28 Jul 2004 15:28:03 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from oceanare@pacific.net.sg) Received: (qmail 23672 invoked from network); 28 Jul 2004 15:28:02 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO maxwell6.pacific.net.sg) (203.120.90.212) by salvador with SMTP; 28 Jul 2004 15:28:01 -0000 Received: from [192.168.0.107] ([210.24.202.160]) by maxwell6.pacific.net.sg with ESMTP id <20040728152801.EOP1187.maxwell6.pacific.net.sg@[192.168.0.107]>; Wed, 28 Jul 2004 23:28:01 +0800 Message-ID: <4107C5FB.6050706@pacific.net.sg> Date: Wed, 28 Jul 2004 23:27:55 +0800 From: Erich Dollansky User-Agent: Mozilla Thunderbird 0.7.1 (X11/20040714) X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: William Wager References: In-Reply-To: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit cc: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Subject: Re: hardware recommended for 1U server X-BeenThere: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: General discussion of FreeBSD hardware List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 28 Jul 2004 15:28:05 -0000 Hi, I write this here on a Tyan Thunder K7, which I have seen in a 1U server. Kernel says: uscanner0: PRIMAX Colorado USB 19200, rev 1.00/1.01, addr 2 when connecting it. Correct. sane-find-scanner says: # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that # you have loaded a SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter. found USB scanner (vendor=0x0461, product=0x0360) at /dev/uscanner0 # Your USB scanner was detected. It may or may not be supported by # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage. # Not checking for parallel port scanners. # Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports # can't be detected by this program. and scanimage -L says No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages). Note: when running sane-find-scanner as non-root, it does not find anything. I assume I need libusb for that? I use FreeBSD current, pretty recent. I'd highly recommend the 3Ware 9000 Series. These are fully supported in FreeBSD, and work fine with SMP. Also the 3dm2 monitoring software is great. Yeah yeah, get a hardware modem, newer distro..., but this has become a challenge. Win98 reports it at COM 4. I have pkg_add'd the appropriate driver (ltmdm0-1.2.tgz) and it is loaded at boot as seen in the dmesg output below: Copyright (c) 1992-2002 The FreeBSD Project.
