Fedora works and I need to move forward with work so I'm putting BSD aside for now. This item may be closed. Perhaps I will try again someday. it has been noted by GNATS. From: mikef@zerompg.com To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: i386/64572: kernel panic when running ifconfig in perl to create vlans Date: Mon, 22 Mar 2004 13:33:28 -0500 (EST) The kernel panic also happens when running a bunch of ifconfig vlan inet adds from a shell script. It happens running them all with and without a 1 second delay between commands. I've tested this on 2 seperate machines. Interfaces are Dual port eepro100's on a P4 2.4ghz box with 512MB ram and an Intel S845WD1-E motherboard with hyperthreading turned off if it helps. At this point the system locks up solidly, responding only the the reset button and the power switch. Other non-FreeBSD OSs tried installed without problems (Windows 2000 and XP, Mandrake 9.1 and 10, NetBSD 1.6.2) so I don't believe it's a hardware issue. With or without ACPI, standard or safe-mode - the result is the same. However, FreeBSD itself runs - having installed a working 5.2-CURRENT disk in the system it boots and runs just fine.
