I have seen this issue brought up at no least of 4 times= ont he mailing list and trice as a PR. I know we're all running 4.10, bu= t it's supposed to be STABLE, and it's truly not. I'd be willing to run w= hatever debugging commands are nessesary to help with diagnosing this for= any willing developer who will make an honest attempt at fixing it. The internal RT8139C+ on my Compaq Presario 900 is complete unusable. Not only do I get the watchog timeouts and random panics at shutdown, but often the loopback test fails and the driver doesn't attach.Obviously, I'm not on a 64bit bus, so this test should not fail. Turning off ACPI does not seem to correct the problem, but I'm not certain that it rules it out as a source. I know many others have also reported this problem on freebsd-current. I have personally sent several messages to Bill Paul (maintainer) about the issue, but have never recieved a response. The box is a diskless X workstation, which boots via pxe/tftp from another 5.2.1 FreeBSD System. The root filessystem is provided via nfs from that box, too. That makes it very inaccessible for now, since nfs hangs at every few chunks of file access. It worked fine with 5.2.1-RELEASE. Since the upgrade to 5.3-BETA6, i expierience NFS stalls. In 5.3-BETA6, i found the problem to be NFS errors (according to tcpdump) and TCP problems (impossible window sizes and error messages on the console regarding that). I tried to switch NFS mount options from -3 -T to plain v2/udp, but it didn't help much (although the box did run a few more minutes). Also the BETA7 upgrade did not fix the problem. Also interessting is, that netpipe benchmark seems to hang, too. In tcpdump it looks like the ACK's are not send in time (e.g. hang for a few seconds), but i am not sure at that. Another BETA7 box works just fine in that case, it has an INTEL 1000pro Desktop adapter. >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Oct 7 09:54:44 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2AA3816A4CE; Thu, 7 Oct 2004 09:54:44 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0A61243D3F; Thu, 7 Oct 2004 09:54:44 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from des@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (des@localhost [127.0.0.1]) i979shgL009821; Thu, 7 Oct 2004 09:54:43 GMT (envelope-from des@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from des@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i979shZ5009817; Thu, 7 Oct 2004 09:54:43 GMT (envelope-from des) Date: Thu, 7 Oct 2004 09:54:43 GMT From: Dag-Erling Smorgrav Message-Id: <200410070954.i979shZ5009817@freefall.freebsd.org> To: des@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org, des@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: i386/72340: [PATCH] add Pentium M, P3 M, P4 M support to bsd.cpu.mk X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 07 Oct 2004 09:54:44 -0000 Synopsis: [PATCH] add Pentium M, P3 M, P4 M support to bsd.cpu.mk Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-i386->des Responsible-Changed-By: des Responsible-Changed-When: Thu Oct 7 09:54:43 GMT 2004 Responsible-Changed-Why: Me fix. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=72340 From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Oct 7 10:10:37 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8C27916A4CE for ; Thu, 7 Oct 2004 10:10:37 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6D28743D39 for ; Thu, 7 Oct 2004 10:10:37 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11) with ESMTP id i97AAbD5015028 for ; Thu, 7 Oct 2004 10:10:37 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i97AAbMf015027; Thu, 7 Oct 2004 10:10:37 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Thu, 7 Oct 2004 10:10:37 GMT Message-Id: <200410071010.i97AAbMf015027@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org From: Steven Enderle Subject: Re: i386/72378: NFS hangs in 5.3-BETA7 X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: Steven Enderle List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 07 Oct 2004 10:10:37 -0000 The following reply was made to PR i386/72378; it has been noted by GNATS. Compiled into the kernel, loaded from /boot/loader.conf/ or loaded from /etc/rc.conf does not work. Drivers load and attach, but no sound. Graphical analyzers reveal that sound is being generated, but it is not coming from speakers. You can see the entire details of what the problem is and how I attempted to fix it here: http://www.freebsdforums.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25524&perpage=15&pagenumber=1 I had installed from Beta-2 and tracked to Beta 7, trying to fix the problem, or wait for the bug to be fixed if it was one. When it was not, and I ran out of options, I decided to report it. >How-To-Repeat: My machine is using an Albatron KX-400+ Pro mobo with a Via-8233 AC'97 sound chip and an Athlon XP 1800+ CPU with 512 megs of ram. I presume the problem is specific to that chiopset, since nobody else on FreeBSD Forums seems to have this problem. Simply set up Beta 7 and try to load option sound and option "via_8233" in kernel, or place the appropriate statements in /etc/rc.conf or /boot/loader. It does not work. Using a generic kernel, or even my custom kernel with option sound and option "via_8233" commented out, these options, plus the sysctl options to increase virtual channels, works fine from the console. >Fix: No known fix. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Oct 8 05:25:55 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E144F16A4CE; Fri, 8 Oct 2004 05:25:55 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C2AFC43D1F; Fri, 8 Oct 2004 05:25:55 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from linimon@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (linimon@localhost [127.0.0.1]) i985PtTW053964; Fri, 8 Oct 2004 05:25:55 GMT (envelope-from linimon@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from linimon@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i985PtxG053960; Fri, 8 Oct 2004 05:25:55 GMT (envelope-from linimon) Date: Fri, 8 Oct 2004 05:25:55 GMT From: Mark Linimon Message-Id: <200410080525.i985PtxG053960@freefall.freebsd.org> To: linimon@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org, sound@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: i386/72112: sound problems X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 08 Oct 2004 05:25:56 -0000 Synopsis: sound problems Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-i386->sound Responsible-Changed-By: linimon Responsible-Changed-When: Fri Oct 8 05:25:27 GMT 2004 Responsible-Changed-Why: Over to mailing list alias. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=72112 From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Oct 8 05:28:19 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 63DAF16A4D1; Fri, 8 Oct 2004 05:28:19 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 449A143D3F; Fri, 8 Oct 2004 05:28:19 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from linimon@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (linimon@localhost [127.0.0.1]) i985SJ2u054115; Fri, 8 Oct 2004 05:28:19 GMT (envelope-from linimon@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from linimon@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i985SJh9054111; Fri, 8 Oct 2004 05:28:19 GMT (envelope-from linimon) Date: Fri, 8 Oct 2004 05:28:19 GMT From: Mark Linimon Message-Id: <200410080528.i985SJh9054111@freefall.freebsd.org> To: linimon@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-qa@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: bin/72269: [sysinstall] sysinstall configures incorrectly latinamerican keyboard X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 08 Oct 2004 05:28:19 -0000 Synopsis: [sysinstall] sysinstall configures incorrectly latinamerican keyboard Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-i386->freebsd-qa Responsible-Changed-By: linimon Responsible-Changed-When: Fri Oct 8 05:28:06 GMT 2004 Responsible-Changed-Why: Over to maintainer(s). http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=72269 From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Oct 8 05:31:58 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5B3D416A4CE; Fri, 8 Oct 2004 05:31:58 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3CB4343D41; Fri, 8 Oct 2004 05:31:58 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from linimon@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (linimon@localhost [127.0.0.1]) i985Vwtn055423; Fri, 8 Oct 2004 05:31:58 GMT (envelope-from linimon@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from linimon@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i985VwbB055419; Fri, 8 Oct 2004 05:31:58 GMT (envelope-from linimon) Date: Fri, 8 Oct 2004 05:31:58 GMT From: Mark Linimon Message-Id: <200410080531.i985VwbB055419@freefall.freebsd.org> To: linimon@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org, sound@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: i386/72439: [sound] Sound not functioning for VIA_8233 chipset from kernel or loaded from file.
