It seems to be based on the Intel E8870 chipset. I was able to test a recent kernel, as of Monday, Feb 23 including this cvs commit: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/cvsweb.cgi/src/sys/ia64/ia64/machdep.c?rev=1.176&content-type=text/x-cvsweb-markup on a Intel Tiger 4 box, which is also based on the same chipset. Without the above change, you'll typically see the machine reset during bootup. -Arun From owner-freebsd-ia64@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Mar 1 15:41:25 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-ia64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EAB9116A4CE; Mon, 1 Mar 2004 15:41:25 -0800 (PST) Received: from corbulon.video-collage.com (corbulon.video-collage.com [64.35.99.179]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 754DD43D1D; Mon, 1 Mar 2004 15:41:25 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from mi+mx@aldan.algebra.com) Received: from 250-217.customer.cloud9.net (195-11.customer.cloud9.net [168.100.195.11])i21NfI8X016456 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA bits=256 verify=OK); Mon, 1 Mar 2004 18:41:24 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from mi+mx@aldan.algebra.com) Received: from localhost (mteterin@localhost [127.0.0.1]) i21NfCw3049249; Mon, 1 Mar 2004 18:41:12 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from mi+mx@aldan.algebra.com) From: Mikhail Teterin Organization: Murex N.A. I need to understand the environment in which this is happening a bit better before I can contemplate what might be wrong. Can you answer the following questions: In what order did you create the file systems? Was there already a GPT on the disk and did it had partitions? What do you mean with only "?/?" is mounted? > Using the fixit shell, /etc/fstab doesn?t even contain > an entry for ?/?. /etc/fstab doesn't contain the file systems you're creating with sysinstall. A proper fstab is created last on the to-be root file system (which is not the same as the root file system used by sysintall). I tried to erase existing partitions, but got the error above. Finally, I did low-level format on the hard drive with the same outcome (multiple times). I tried putting partitions in various orders, but the EFI partition was the one to always fail to mount... It seems like it either did not get formatted properly, or was mounted with some wrong parameter(s). > What do you mean with only "?/?" is mounted? Sorry, it is the editor who did it. It just means /, I put quotation marks around it.
