But at the momenta I will use it for enterprise solutions and in this case we make alone the hole instalation. The main question for me is: Exists any stable and fast freebsd solution for java. We are using on sever side jboss + postgreSQL. As I know postgreSQL is best performing on freebsd (I hope and we make tests for it) and I need to look for java performance. General we have PC dual processor system with 4/8/12 GB RAM and have 200-500 concurent users. The solution that we are using at the moment is own compilation based on linux RedHat AS 3.0 (from sources). Also on linux we tested IBM java and found problems with memory management and performance. regards, ivan. > Cheers, > > Matthew > > -- > Dr Matthew J Seaman MA, D.Phil. 26 The Paddocks > Savill Way > PGP: http://www.infracaninophile.co.uk/pgpkey Marlow > Tel: +44 1628 476614 Bucks., SL7 1TH UK > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > Part 1.2 Type: application/pgp-signature From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Jan 18 05:18:03 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8266D16A4CE for ; Sun, 18 Jan 2004 05:18:03 -0800 (PST) Received: from vorpal.math.drexel.edu (vorpal.math.drexel.edu [129.25.6.250]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B7B0543D45 for ; Sun, 18 Jan 2004 05:18:01 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from jsmith@drexel.edu) Received: from drexel.edu (vorpal.mcs.drexel.edu [129.25.6.250]) i0IDI0sM025781 for ; Sun, 18 Jan 2004 08:18:00 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from jsmith@drexel.edu) Message-ID: <400A8788.8080506@drexel.edu> Date: Sun, 18 Jan 2004 08:18:00 -0500 From: Justin Smith User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD i386; en-US; rv:1.6b) Gecko/20031208 Thunderbird/0.4 X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: Mozilla applets fail with jdk 1.4.2p6 X-BeenThere: freebsd-java@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting Java to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 18 Jan 2004 13:18:03 -0000 FreeBSD jsmith.org 5.2-RELEASE FreeBSD 5.2-RELEASE #0: Mon Jan 12 09:12:20 EST 2004 jsmith@jsmith.org:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/MYKERNEL i386 I get the message: Unexpected Signal : 11 occurred at PC=0x348315D7 Function=processTree+0x29B Library=/usr/local/jdk1.4.2/jre/lib/i386/libawt.so Current Java thread: at sun.awt.motif.MToolkit.run(Native Method) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:534) Dynamic libraries: 0x8048000 java_vm 0x2807e000 /usr/lib/libkse.so.1 0x280a2000 /lib/libc.so.5 0x2817d000 /usr/local/jdk1.4.2/jre/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so 0x285c3000 /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.4 0x2867f000 /lib/libm.so.2 0x28698000 /usr/local/jdk1.4.2/jre/lib/i386/native_threads/libhpi.so 0x286a6000 /usr/local/jdk1.4.2/jre/lib/i386/libverify.so 0x286bc000 /usr/local/jdk1.4.2/jre/lib/i386/libjava.so 0x286db000 /usr/local/jdk1.4.2/jre/lib/i386/libzip.so 0x34761000 /usr/local/jdk1.4.2/jre/lib/i386/libawt.so 0x349d7000 /usr/local/jdk1.4.2/jre/lib/i386/libmlib_image.so 0x34a22000 /usr/X11R6/lib/libXp.so.6 0x34a2a000 /usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.so.6 0x34a7b000 /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6 0x34a8a000 /usr/X11R6/lib/libXtst.so.6 0x34a90000 /usr/X11R6/lib/libXmu.so.6 0x34aa6000 /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.6 0x34b6e000 /usr/X11R6/lib/libSM.so.6 0x34b77000 /usr/X11R6/lib/libICE.so.6 0x34b8e000 /usr/local/jdk1.4.2/jre/lib/i386/libjavaplugin_jni.so 0x34bb5000 /usr/local/jdk1.4.2/jre/lib/i386/libfontmanager.so 0x2c64d000 /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale/lib/common/xlcDef.so.2 0x34c8a000 /usr/X11R6/lib/libXcursor.so.1 0x34c93000 /usr/X11R6/lib/libXrender.so.1 0x34c9b000 /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/locale/lib/common/ximcp.so.2 0x34cb9000 /usr/local/jdk1.4.2/jre/lib/i386/libnet.so 0x34ccc000 /usr/local/jdk1.4.2/jre/lib/i386/libdcpr.so 0x2804b000 /libexec/ld-elf.so.1 Heap at VM Abort: Heap def new generation total 576K, used 424K [0x2c650000, 0x2c6f0000, 0x2cb30000) eden space 512K, 79% used [0x2c650000, 0x2c6b5950, 0x2c6d0000) from space 64K, 28% used [0x2c6d0000, 0x2c6d49c8, 0x2c6e0000) to space 64K, 0% used [0x2c6e0000, 0x2c6e0000, 0x2c6f0000) tenured generation total 1408K, used 567K [0x2cb30000, 0x2cc90000, 0x30650000) the space 1408K, 40% used [0x2cb30000, 0x2cbbdc78, 0x2cbbde00, 0x2cc90000) compacting perm gen total 5120K, used 5111K [0x30650000, 0x30b50000, 0x34650000) the space 5120K, 99% used [0x30650000, 0x30b4df00, 0x30b4e000, 0x30b50000) Local Time = Sun Jan 18 07:41:53 2004 Elapsed Time = 6 # # The exception above was detected in native code outside the VM # # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (1.4.2-p6-jsmith_17_jan_2004_10_40 mixed mode) # # An error report file has been saved as /tmp/hs_err_pid884.log. # Please refer to the file for further information. # INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Pipe closed during read? Everything goes fine until the Eclipse Welcome Screen appears. Then java goes to sleep and Eclipse doesn't react on keyboard or mouse actions. Using java 1.3 via -vm commandline option Eclipse startup is ok and everything seems to work fine. But when I try to install cdt via the upodate manager it crashes and java coredumps. I know that I can use Eclipse 2.1.2 with java 1.4.2p5 on a different machine. Is p6 broken or am I doing wrong something else? cu Gerrit -- From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Jan 18 12:04:26 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 429A516A4CE for ; Sun, 18 Jan 2004 12:04:26 -0800 (PST) Received: from chen.org.nz (chen.org.nz [210.54.19.51]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 29E8E43D58 for ; Sun, 18 Jan 2004 12:04:25 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from jonc@chen.org.nz) Received: by chen.org.nz (Postfix, from userid 1000) id CD6B713623; Mon, 19 Jan 2004 09:04:19 +1300 (NZDT) Date: Mon, 19 Jan 2004 09:04:19 +1300 From: Jonathan Chen To: "freeb t1 unisoftbg com" Message-ID: <20040118200419.GA308@grimoire.chen.org.nz> References: <40092BE2.A78AA31A@t1.unisoftbg.com> <20040117235015.GA98303@grimoire.chen.org.nz> <400A263C.2CCE9DAD@t1.unisoftbg.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <400A263C.2CCE9DAD@t1.unisoftbg.com> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.1i cc: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Subject: Re: sun jdk 1.4.2_02 and freebsd 5.2 X-BeenThere: freebsd-java@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting Java to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 18 Jan 2004 20:04:26 -0000 On Sun, Jan 18, 2004 at 07:22:52AM +0100, freeb t1 unisoftbg com wrote: > > > Jonathan Chen wrote: [...] > > If I were going to use it on a production server, FreeBSD 4-STABLE and > > the native JDK1.4.2 would be my choice. > > Where to ge this 1.4.2 native ?Can you give me any link where to read about it? The port can be built with /usr/ports/java/jdk14. The bad thing about this is that it requires Linux JDK to bootstrap the build. I also had the same issue with the version of mozilla-gtk2-1.5 from the 5.2-RELEASE install cd. Trying to run this applet (mindterm) crashes the browser: http://sean.storm2k.com/ssh.html Trying to run it directly with appletviewer results in the applet starting with a message stating that it is trying to initialize the random generator -- then it starts spooling up the cpu. The menus at the top of the mindterm do work, but it never gets any further. (Yes, I know the signing on the applet is not too reassuring -- it is just for my use and I'm not very expert at "signing") I do not have this issue with 4.9-RELEASE running jdk-1.4.1p4_1 and mozilla-gtk2-1.6.a with the same tests. I am reasonably confident the issue is only with the java port but I am surprised that the browser quits on me... Anyone else get this same behavior? I got the following error while trying to compile openoffice-1.1 from the ports collection. Not sure if this is the information I need to send, and would be happy to send whatever I can to help resolve the problem. This is the end of the output from a "make install clean". It never finishes (let it run about 10 hours) and I do a control-c to kill it. Thanks! Remember also that you can't use any Nvidia provided drivers and/or libraries (OpenGL) with libkse or libthr. If folks are having problems make sure this is not the cause. The other potential problem with the jdk using libkse (or even libthr) is that other libraries installed in the system may be pulling in libc_r. For instance /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so. I'm not sure how the jvm works, but if this ends up in different thread libraries being pulled in, you can have problems. I suggest everyone having problems to use a libmap.conf with libc_r mapped to libkse. Anyone that has to use NVidia supplied drivers/OpenGL, use a reverse mapping. > If I get a few positive reports for this I think we should shift the port > back to using libc_r by default and libkse as an option. libkse (libpthread) is going to be the default library very soon now, so you should probably leave it unchanged and let us (-java, -threads) figure out where the problems are and fix them. Sorry, I haven't been following any of these threads lately. -- Dan Eischen From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Jan 21 08:52:42 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 279F716A4CE for ; Wed, 21 Jan 2004 08:52:42 -0800 (PST) Received: from axl.seasidesoftware.co.za (axl.seasidesoftware.co.za [196.31.7.201]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BACAB43D31 for ; Wed, 21 Jan 2004 08:52:38 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from sheldonh@starjuice.net) Received: from sheldonh by axl.seasidesoftware.co.za with local (Exim 4.30; FreeBSD) id 1AjLal-000MdH-Sw; Wed, 21 Jan 2004 18:52:35 +0200 Date: Wed, 21 Jan 2004 18:52:35 +0200 From: Sheldon Hearn To: Greg Lewis Message-ID: <20040121165235.GR47456@starjuice.net> Mail-Followup-To: Greg Lewis , freebsd-java@freebsd.org References: <20040121161443.GA72652@misty.eyesbeyond.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20040121161443.GA72652@misty.eyesbeyond.com> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.4i cc: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Subject: Re: 1.4.2p6 problems on 5.x X-BeenThere: freebsd-java@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting Java to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 21 Jan 2004 16:52:42 -0000 On (2004/01/21 09:14), Greg Lewis wrote: > Can everybody who is having trouble with 1.4.2p6 on 5.x please try using > libmap.conf(5) to map libkse to libc_r and see if the problems persist. > Also, please report if this makes a difference. Ok. In that case I suggest people try Dan's suggestion, i.e. map everything to libkse. If the problems persist, try mapping everything to libc_r. If that solves things then at least we've got an idea that the problems are either in libkse or the way its being used by the VM. Reports on what happens when you try these options are obviously helpful. -- Greg Lewis Email : glewis@eyesbeyond.com Eyes Beyond Web : http://www.eyesbeyond.com Information Technology FreeBSD : glewis@FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Jan 21 09:11:45 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-java@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 589D916A4CE; Wed, 21 Jan 2004 09:11:45 -0800 (PST) Received: from kurush.osdn.org.ua (external.osdn.org.ua [212.40.34.156]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A8E5143D1D; Wed, 21 Jan 2004 09:11:39 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from never@kurush.osdn.org.ua) Received: from kurush.osdn.org.ua (never@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by kurush.osdn.org.ua (8.12.6p3/8.12.6) with ESMTP id i0LHBNq3096156; Wed, 21 Jan 2004 19:11:23 +0200 (EET) (envelope-from never@kurush.osdn.org.ua) Received: (from never@localhost) by kurush.osdn.org.ua (8.12.6p3/8.12.6/Submit) id i0LHBNTq096153; Wed, 21 Jan 2004 19:11:23 +0200 (EET) (envelope-from never) Date: Wed, 21 Jan 2004 19:11:23 +0200 From: Alexandr Kovalenko To: Greg Lewis Message-ID: <20040121171123.GA93026@nevermind.kiev.ua> References: <20040118023643.GA48825@narcisse.gelf.com> <20040121121101.GA75032@nevermind.kiev.ua> <20040121161545.GB72652@misty.eyesbeyond.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=koi8-r Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20040121161545.GB72652@misty.eyesbeyond.com> User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.4i cc: Alexander Gelf cc: freebsd-java@freebsd.org cc: openoffice@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Error Report: Compiling OpenOffice 1.1.0-1 port on 5.2-RELEASE / JDK 1.4.2-6 port X-BeenThere: freebsd-java@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting Java to FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 21 Jan 2004 17:11:45 -0000 Hello, Greg Lewis! I had problems with Eclipse and the p6 JDK. I'm using the nVidia-supplied X drivers and I wasn't aware of the libkse problems with it. First I encountered a bug in javadoc (not reproducible on Linux/1.4.2_03), but now I get 4 (!) different errors while executing the same 'ant java' command 4 times in a row!
