I've got Icecast 2.0 all built up and working, with all its libraries libshout, libvorbis etc. I have found this package: http://benow.ca/index?page=project&project=libshout-java that allows me to make calls to libshout from a Java program, but I'm having a hard time getting the library links resolved correctly. When running a Java program that uses the libshout-java glue, I get: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /home/renaud/src/libshout-java-0.1-freebsd/native/libshoutjava.so.1.0: /usr/local/lib/libshout.so.3: Undefined symbol "pthread_cond_signal" OK, so it looks like libshout needs pthreads. I had to set -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true to get it to work. I subsequently saw some postings on this list which made me assume that there would be a patch in the works which solved the problem. After building -p6 I still see the problem. It is actually two-fold: 1. In the default configuration, tomcat will not even start because it gets a SocketException when it tries to create the server socket on the command port 8005. It will print a message indicating that I might want to turn IPv4 mapped addresses off. 2. After issuing "sysctl net.inet6.ip6.v6only=0" tomcat does actually start, but cannot connect to oracle. Oracle of course has no IPv6 capabilities, but I would expect tomcat to fall back to IPv4. After setting the preferIPv4 system property as above, it works again. So what's up with this problem? Is it supposed to stay this way, as a known limitation? Or could I help somehow? -- Regards, Georg. I am through all of them, blackdown-1.3, blackdown-1.4.2, checked out the previous blackdown-1.4.1, Sun-1.3.1 and Sun-1.4.2. Most of them have incompatible C++ interfaces to the current linux-mozilla, except blackdown-1.4.2, which doesn't run with "linux: syscall mmap2 is obsoleted or not implemented" and Sun-1.4.2 which abort with a segmentation fault in hotspot. Doh. Anyboody know how I can disable hotspot in the Sun JVM for a plugin I know how to do it when calling the jvm directly, but for the plugin I cannot give commandline parameters. And in the 1.4.x installs there is no hot spot directoy to move away. Setting everything to -classic in jvm.conf didn't change anything. Thanks! Note I am not debugging the JVM (with gdb), I'm debugging a Java application using another Java application (Eclipse) as the debugger. The problem is easy to reproduce. Just take your favorite hello-world java program, set a breakpoint on some line, and start the (Eclipse) debugger on it. You will get the above error if you run with libthr but all will be well if you run with libc_r. -- Regards, Georg. And the ata(4) driver is using the head/sector value acquired from HDD. However, in 32GB or more of HDD, since a cylinder value overflows, it cannot be used normally. (Some interfaces for PC-98x1 works over 8GB HDDs. But there are still manages in CHS geometry.) PC-98's slice table max values are followd(maybe)... Cylinder: 65534(=65535) Heads: 255(=256) Sectors: 255 Typical PC-98's geometry: under 4.3GB: heads=8, sectors=17 4.3GB to 32GB: heads=16, sectors=63(=HDD's geometry) 32GB to 128GB: heads=16, sectors=255(*1) 128GB to 2TB: heads=255, sectors=255(*2,*3,*4) over 2TB: cylinders=65534, heads=255, sectors=255(*2,*3) (*1) PK98-Mistress9[atacbus's add-on BIOS] and UIDE-133/98(PCI-ATA) only (*2) UIDE-133/98 only (*3) PK98-Mistress9 is cylinders=65534, heads=16, sectors=255 (*4) over 128GB or supports 48bit LBA >How-To-Repeat: FreeBSD/pc98 5.2-RELEASE installed, and use fdisk_pc98(8) for over-32GB-HDD. This is because cylinder of HDD is over 16bit. >Fix: ata(4) use BIOS geometry, or it changes not with the value acquired from HDDs but with the fixed value(heads/sectors). Well, it the same issue on Linux and FreeBSD, you have to have your binary compiled with the same compiler as you plugin (couldn't these people use a C wrapper around the plugin interface?). > > Doh. So am I only only one for whom neither Sun-jdk-1.4.x not blackdown-jdk-1.4.2 work? Sun bails out with hotspot, blackdown with mmap2. (It's a Java/Struts based blog program.) I have FreeBSD 4.9, with a fresh install of Tomcat 5.0.16. It works and serves its root page quite nicely, also the manager page, which is pretty cool. I've tried to install Roller 0.9.8.1. There's not much to it, but I can't get it to work. The manager interface registers it, but it won't start up. The log shows a bunch of lines I believe relate to the problem. They say INFO 2004-01-21 16:24:50,809 IndexManager:getFSDirectory - Problem accessing index directory java.io.IOException: Cannot create directory: /nonexistent/roller-index So roller is trying to create a directory on /nonexistent, which doesn't. (The Tomcat server is owned by www.) So what should I do? I'd like to change the root directory for Roller, so that I can let it create its index somewhere else, but I'm not sure how to do that. Someone on the roller mailing list suggested I could do that in roller-config.xml though I see now directive for that purpose, nor a relevant comment. Ideas? Thanks, John PS I'm not subscribed to freebsd-java, so please CC me.
