Find as you type isn't essential to the operation of Mozilla, but in several cases it can cause the browser to stall for several minutes when entering url's in the title bar or when composing email and is becoming quite annoying for myself and for the people that I regularly service. Reproduction of the problem: Install the www/mozilla port and the audio/grip port open mozilla and type something into the url bar mozilla will freeze for n minutes ( depending on the speed of your cpu ) mozilla will then behave as normal Problem reproducible on other machines: Yes Problem severity: Minimal ( but annoying ) Workaround If you go into Mozilla preferences, under Advanced : Keyboard Navigation and disable Find As You Type, then you'll avoid the several minutes of hang the first time you try and type into a text field or the location bar. Suggested solution: Install feature disabled until solution is fixed, then re-enable if necessary From owner-freebsd-mozilla@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Feb 9 14:01:57 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mozilla@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1DDB216A4CE for ; Mon, 9 Feb 2004 14:01:57 -0800 (PST) Received: from obsecurity.dyndns.org (adsl-64-169-106-71.dsl.lsan03.pacbell.net [64.169.106.71]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E032B43D1D for ; Mon, 9 Feb 2004 14:01:56 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from kris@obsecurity.org) Received: by obsecurity.dyndns.org (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 7776A66CC9; Mon, 9 Feb 2004 14:01:56 -0800 (PST) Date: Mon, 9 Feb 2004 14:01:56 -0800 From: Kris Kennaway To: Keith Davis Message-ID: <20040209220156.GA22193@xor.obsecurity.org> References: <4027C29B.40509@comcast.net> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="r5Pyd7+fXNt84Ff3" Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <4027C29B.40509@comcast.net> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.1i cc: freebsd-mozilla@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Mozilla Stalls when typing into text field or location bar X-BeenThere: freebsd-mozilla@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Mozilla browser issues List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 09 Feb 2004 22:01:57 -0000 --r5Pyd7+fXNt84Ff3 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On Mon, Feb 09, 2004 at 09:25:47AM -0800, Keith Davis wrote: >=20 > Any chance that we can get "Find as you Type" either disabled or fixed=20 > in subsequent releases of Mozilla. Mozilla sometimes begin to ignore all keyboard input after swiched from another task, say, gedit or terminal. It ignores keystrokes at all, say Ctrl+W and Ctrl+Q all ignored, restart mozilla works. When this happen, all mozilla apps (mail/addressbook etc) does not accept input. Mouse click is okay. This happens more frequently when you turned XIM server (Chinese input server in my case) on, but it happens as well even if you don't have XIM server running. At first I was using FreeBSD 4.8/mozilla 1.2 (I don't remember clear) on my Thinkpad R30 notebook, this problem exists. Later I have FreeBSD 4.9/mozilla 1.4 I still have the problems. In this way I thought it can be a frequent/well known problem, so I just use epiphany and hope it will be corrected next version. Now I'm using FreeBSD 5.1/mozilla 1.5 on my Thinkpad T40, I still have the problems. Sometimes I need to save/restart mozilla mail several times to finish a email. Today I think I had it enough so I write this message, trying to figure out what went wrong. I compile mozilla from the ports, with gtk2. Do anyone have the same problem? Do you think I should report this as a bug to mozilla.org? What should I try to do to workaround the problem? And, I wish I can try 1.6, only I don't know when will 1.6 port come out. This problem has annoyed me so much. If you can give me a hint or just bring me to the webpage I should visite I'll be very graceful. Thank you. _________________________________________________________________ 享用世界上最大的电子邮件系统— MSN Hotmail。 http://www.hotmail.com
