I don't have idea about how much different is Zope 2.7 from 2.6 because I'm not a Zope user yet. I'd like to vote for Zope 2.7 only support if the most Zope products are compatible with Zope 2.7. Most Plone/CMF products now recommend Zope 2.7 vs 2.6.2. > Also I'm very curious about that Zope 2.7 is ready for Python 2.3 > or 2.2 even. ;-) Zope 2.7 uses Python 2.3. This alone makes it worth the upgrade, and not having to deal with multiple versions of py-ports (and saves me making new slave ports just to have py21 support for some CMF products). We will also need a new ZOPEINSTANCE variable, to point to where our products will be installed. The discussions before, all dealt with how to handle multiple instances of ports. Right now, the ports structure can't handle it, and I think we follow www ports to be able to specify non-default ZOPEINSTANCE, but not support multiple instances just yet to get the ports going.=20 Gerhard Schmidt's (estartu@augusta.de) already posted an older zope 2.7b port. -- "You keep using that word. This is one of the best reasons for moving to zope 2.7! 2.7 is very similar to 2.6 functionally; but somewhat different in its install layout. While you can install zope 2.7 "in-place" (more similar to 2.6), it prefers to install itself more like a library, and then run from an "instance" directory. It also now has a config file (zope.conf), and a control program (zopectl). > You would need to talk with nbm, the current maintainer about it > before working on it. It actually works if you do a normal python install with setup.py install. What's the command it runs after: /usr/local/bin/python -O /tmp/tmpm3u6iL.py That line works fine (meaning the script runs and creates compiled bytecodes for the list of files it was given) I then ran setup.py install, and it installed without a hitch. I also than managed to run straw and poll for the latest news. The only difference I see is that you are installing it into /usr/X11R6/ share/gnome/straw vs The default, which is to install into /usr/local/lib/python2.3/site- packages (directory where python loads all it's modules by default). This was not a problem either, as setting STRAW_LIB=3D/usr/X11R6/share/ gnome/straw ran the port installed versions just fine. I then ran it from compiled bytecodes (.pyo) and without (.py) with no problems at all and was able to poll and read news. I have to go now, I'll have a look later at find out what is running after the bytecode compile script is run. -- "You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
