FreeBSD can, but I don't think there are any motherboards out there that do that. I've run the 4-way testbox I have here with 3 CPUs by using a hint in -current to disable one of the cpus (hint.lapic.2.disabled=1 or the like). -- John Baldwin <>< http://www.FreeBSD.org/~jhb/ "Power Users Use the Power to Serve" = http://www.FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-smp@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Dec 23 21:52:30 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-smp@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9701716A4CE; Thu, 23 Dec 2004 21:52:30 +0000 (GMT) Received: from obsecurity.dyndns.org (CPE0050040655c8-CM00111ae02aac.cpe.net.cable.rogers.com [69.194.102.143]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6588943D1F; Thu, 23 Dec 2004 21:52:30 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from kris@obsecurity.org) Received: by obsecurity.dyndns.org (Postfix, from userid 1000) id A3E3951288; Thu, 23 Dec 2004 13:52:29 -0800 (PST) Date: Thu, 23 Dec 2004 13:52:29 -0800 From: Kris Kennaway To: John Baldwin Message-ID: <20041223215229.GA61941@xor.obsecurity.org> References: <200412231451.56908.jhb@FreeBSD.org> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="FL5UXtIhxfXey3p5" Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <200412231451.56908.jhb@FreeBSD.org> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.1i cc: freebsd-smp@FreeBSD.org Subject: Access to quad-CPU machines (Re: FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE on a two procesor system) X-BeenThere: freebsd-smp@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD SMP implementation group List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 23 Dec 2004 21:52:30 -0000 --FL5UXtIhxfXey3p5 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On Thu, Dec 23, 2004 at 02:51:56PM -0500, John Baldwin wrote: > On Tuesday 21 December 2004 07:37 am, KC Somaratne wrote: > > hi, > > > > can it be an odd number of cpu's? like 3 or 5 cpu? >=20 > FreeBSD can, but I don't think there are any motherboards out there that = do=20 > that. BTW, I've recently gained access to a quad-cpu E450 (thanks, hrs!) and have been coming across some new and interesting panics on RELENG_5 (which rwatson is investigating). I'd like to have access to more quad machines so I can see what else I can shake out. Does anyone else have a spare quad-CPU machine with reasonable net connection, and would like to to donate remote root access to me for package building (i.e. FreeBSD QA)?
