Are you still having problems building release for sparc64? The dancing-fandango problem should be gone as of July 18th. Yes, but if I recall correctly it will not work with all Ultra1's. I think it will work with Ultra1's that have the wide-SCSI connector on the back, not the ones that have the narrow-SCSI connector. But I might not have understood correctly. I only had time to initially test the CD on my "usual" test machine which is an Ultra-5. I'll be testing it on a couple of other architectures through the next day or two including experimenting a bit with both of the Ultra-1 variants. -- Ken Smith - From there to here, from here to | kensmith@cse.buffalo.edu there, funny things are everywhere. | - Theodore Geisel | From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Aug 2 04:20:24 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3281816A4CF for ; Mon, 2 Aug 2004 04:20:24 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1C40C43D55 for ; Mon, 2 Aug 2004 04:20:24 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) i724KNGZ041847 for ; Mon, 2 Aug 2004 04:20:23 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i724KNBR041846; Mon, 2 Aug 2004 04:20:23 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Mon, 2 Aug 2004 04:20:23 GMT Message-Id: <200408020420.i724KNBR041846@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.org From: Scott Long Subject: Re: sparc64/69893: asr panics the system on sparc64 X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: Scott Long List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 02 Aug 2004 04:20:24 -0000 The following reply was made to PR sparc64/69893; it has been noted by GNATS. In addition, due to bugs of 3Com chips in some revisions, xl(4) now disabled TX checksum offload capability. fxp(4) has one nice feature that mitigates interrutp load on host cpu via loadable microcode. But I don't know that feature works on sparc64. In hme(4) we can reduce TX interrupt load with minor patch too. Unfortunatly, that yielded performance drops(serveral percentage) in netperf TX test. It's just and Ultra 1, I've just added a Qlogic 1000 SBUS adapter to it (Wide SCSI Differential) but unfortunately I don't have now a HVD disk handy. I tink this adapter it's supported (the isp device has an SBUS atachement since 2002). I'll try to install on a HVD drive so that when time comes It will be a good test machine for esp and lnc drivers. :-) Johny. From the onslaught of replies to this (aka "Zero"), I assume I am still the only person seeing this. Well, I still do not quite understand all the details of the problem. But after much time, several blind alleys, and many buildworlds later, I have narrowed it down to the following commit: obrien 2004-06-24 02:57:12 UTC FreeBSD src repository Log: Better OFW console support on Sun Ultra2 machines. Ultra2 users may want to set OFWCONS_POLL_HZ to a value of '20'. I have left default value at '4' as higher values can consume a more than is acceptable amount of CPU, and we don't have a consensus yet what is an optimal value. Submitted by: Pyun YongHyeon Revision Changes Path 1.11 +1 -0 src/sys/conf/options.sparc64 1.25 +17 -9 src/sys/dev/ofw/ofw_console.c 1.7 +2 -0 src/sys/sparc64/conf/NOTES If I take my non-working system, and backout revision 1.25 of ofw_console.c, then it goes back to working fine in single-user mode. Before doing that, I also tried adding the line: option OFWCONS_POLL_HZ=30 # 20 or more works best on Ultra2 (to increase it up from the default of '4'), but that didn't seem to do any good. I suspect my main problem is that I run my ultra-10 from a regular keyboard/console, while everyone else seems to be doing it via a serial console. Now that I think I have a way around the single-user problem, I'm going to try to bring my system up-to-date (minus the above change), and see how well that works. That'll take me another day, though... There is much about the behavior I see from this bug which does not make sense to me. Given the behavior I see, real issue might be something pretty simple. Like maybe something that needs to be reset in /sbin/init . -- Garance Alistair Drosehn = gad@gilead.netel.rpi.edu Senior Systems Programmer or gad@freebsd.org Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute or drosih@rpi.edu From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Aug 3 02:42:50 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6D30016A4CE for ; Tue, 3 Aug 2004 02:42:50 +0000 (GMT) Received: from ns.kt-is.co.kr (ns.kt-is.co.kr [211.218.149.125]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EBF2F43D66 for ; Tue, 3 Aug 2004 02:42:49 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from yongari@kt-is.co.kr) Received: from michelle.kt-is.co.kr (ns2.kt-is.co.kr [220.76.118.193]) (authenticated bits=128) by ns.kt-is.co.kr (8.12.10/8.12.10) with ESMTP id i732fhAh044187 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA bits=256 verify=FAIL); Tue, 3 Aug 2004 11:41:44 +0900 (KST) Received: from michelle.kt-is.co.kr (localhost.kt-is.co.kr [127.0.0.1]) by michelle.kt-is.co.kr (8.12.10/8.12.10) with ESMTP id i732gciH004698 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA bits=256 verify=NO); Tue, 3 Aug 2004 11:42:38 +0900 (KST) (envelope-from yongari@kt-is.co.kr) Received: (from yongari@localhost) by michelle.kt-is.co.kr (8.12.10/8.12.10/Submit) id i732gbBK004697; Tue, 3 Aug 2004 11:42:37 +0900 (KST) (envelope-from yongari@kt-is.co.kr) Date: Tue, 3 Aug 2004 11:42:37 +0900 From: Pyun YongHyeon To: Roderick van Domburg Message-ID: <20040803024237.GA4564@kt-is.co.kr> References: <410E3C0F.20403@student.utwente.nl> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <410E3C0F.20403@student.utwente.nl> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.1i X-Filter-Version: 1.11a (ns.kt-is.co.kr) cc: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Does ip6fw work for you on sparc64? However if you can live with other solutions, I'd like to recommend pf. Though not in FreeBSD sparc64, pf was heavily tested on sparc64 and IPv6 environments in OpenBSD. The only drawback of pf against ipfw is operations in bridged environments. State tracking, one of the most powerful feature of pf, doesn't work in bridged environments. This is not pf's fault. ATM, our bridge(4) doesn't allow pf/ipf see outgoing packets in bridge environmets. (hence ipf can't create state too.) Just making stateful inspection for pf/ipf is trivial one but I want more complete patch for bridge(4) in order to have pf's IP reassemble capability work in bridged setup. If my memory serve right, the last consensus with Luigi was "fix after ipfw's pfil conversion". This should fix the two bugs of ifconfig(8) on big-endian machines. bug #1 When mediaopt full-duplex was set, global variable ifr.ifr_media is set to selected media option. Therefore the next reference to "ifr.ifr_addr.sa_family" is wrong since the value was overwritten by selected media option. bug #2 According to bug #1, "ifr.ifr_addr.sa_family" now has the value AF_APPLETALK. So checkatrange() is called and "addreq.ifra_addr" is modified. Now if ifconfig(8) has a new address to set, it incorrectly use the corrupted "addreq". This yield bind(2) error(EADDRNOTAVAIL) for assigned IP address. Thanks. Correct, it's not supported. The GEM driver in FreeBSD supports the ethernet controller that's on the SunBlade-100 systems which isn't the same ethernet controller as what SUN calls the GEM interface. >From the gem(4) manual page: The gem driver provides support for the GMac Ethernet hardware found mostly in the last Apple PowerBooks G3s and most G4-based Apple hardware, as well as many Sun UltraSPARCs. -- Ken Smith - From there to here, from here to | kensmith@cse.buffalo.edu there, funny things are everywhere. | - Theodore Geisel | From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Aug 7 00:35:05 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0C39016A4CE for ; Sat, 7 Aug 2004 00:35:05 +0000 (GMT) Received: from mproxy.gmail.com (rproxy.gmail.com [64.233.170.194]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A81FC43D58 for ; Sat, 7 Aug 2004 00:35:04 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from jogorman@gmail.com) Received: by mproxy.gmail.com with SMTP id 75so61706rnl for ; Fri, 06 Aug 2004 17:35:01 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.38.24.64 with SMTP id 64mr400675rnx; Fri, 06 Aug 2004 17:35:01 -0700 (PDT) Message-ID: Date: Fri, 6 Aug 2004 19:35:01 -0500 From: Jim O'Gorman To: Doug White In-Reply-To: <20040806170033.B47993@carver.gumbysoft.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit References: <20040806170033.B47993@carver.gumbysoft.com> cc: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Sun Gigaswift card X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 07 Aug 2004 00:35:05 -0000 Here you go: pcib1@pci0:1:1: class=0x060400 card=0x00000000 chip=0x5000108e rev=0x13 hdr=0x01 vendor = 'Sun Microsystems' device = 'SME2411 UltraSPARC-IIi Advanced PCI Bridge' class = bridge subclass = PCI-PCI pcib2@pci0:1:0: class=0x060400 card=0x00000000 chip=0x5000108e rev=0x13 hdr=0x01 vendor = 'Sun Microsystems' device = 'SME2411 UltraSPARC-IIi Advanced PCI Bridge' class = bridge subclass = PCI-PCI ebus0@pci1:1:0: class=0x068000 card=0x00000000 chip=0x1000108e rev=0x01 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Sun Microsystems' device = 'SPARC EBUS PCIO PCI I/O Controller' class = bridge subclass = PCI-unknown hme0@pci1:1:1: class=0x020000 card=0x00000000 chip=0x1001108e rev=0x01 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Sun Microsystems' device = 'PCIO Happy Meal Ethernet' class = network subclass = ethernet none0@pci1:2:0: class=0x030000 card=0x00000000 chip=0x47501002 rev=0x5c hdr=0x00 vendor = 'ATI Technologies' device = 'Rage 3D Pro PCI Graphics Accelerator' class = display subclass = VGA atapci0@pci1:3:0: class=0x01018f card=0x06461095 chip=0x06461095 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Silicon Image Inc (Was: CMD Technology Inc)' device = 'PCI-0646 EIDE Adapter (Single FIFO)' class = mass storage subclass = ATA sym0@pci2:1:0: class=0x010000 card=0x10001000 chip=0x000f1000 rev=0x26 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'LSI Logic (Was: Symbios Logic, NCR)' device = 'LSI53C875/E,LSI53C876/E PCI to Ultra SCSI I/O Processor' class = mass storage subclass = SCSI pcib3@pci2:3:0: class=0x060400 card=0x000000dc chip=0xb1548086 rev=0x00 hdr=0x01 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = 'S21152BA,S21154AE/BE PCI to PCI Bridge' class = bridge subclass = PCI-PCI none1@pci3:0:0: class=0x020000 card=0x00000000 chip=0xabba108e rev=0x20 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Sun Microsystems' class = network subclass = ethernet thanks Jim On Fri, 6 Aug 2004 17:00:47 -0700 (PDT), Doug White wrote: > > > On Fri, 6 Aug 2004, Jim O'Gorman wrote: > > > Just a quick question to confirm: The Sun Gigaswift card is not > > supported on FreeBSD Sparc64, correct? The GEM driver in FreeBSD supports the > ethernet controller that's on the SunBlade-100 systems which isn't > the same ethernet controller as what SUN calls the GEM interface. The ethernet interface in the Blade 100 is the ERI, which seems to just be a 100 Mbps version of the "real" gigabit GEM with identical programming interface (but we have no in-depth documentation on either). We should have inherited support for the GEM from NetBSD, but I do not recall any reports on success or failure with that hardware. The GEM hardware is apparently simply called "GigabitEthernet" by Sun, and supported by the "ge" driver on Solaris. There is a separate driver, "ce", for GigaSwift cards, so it does not seem too likely that the two are compatible enough to be supported by a single driver (but then, Sun also has a separate "eri" driver). - Thomas -- Thomas Moestl http://www.tu-bs.de/~y0015675/ http://people.FreeBSD.org/~tmm/ "I couldn't read it because my parents forgot to pay the gravity bill." -- Calvin and Hobbes --huq684BweRXVnRxX Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.5 (FreeBSD) iD8DBQFBFUB7H+ZPHUGcd2wRAluoAKCWeBlt9X76ViJOazbgZTLqJw/K+wCgyWij AVGz54DlPHVOaIB6Yw1ofEU= =gahk -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --huq684BweRXVnRxX-- From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Aug 7 21:20:02 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C4B5116A4CE for ; Sat, 7 Aug 2004 21:20:02 +0000 (GMT) Received: from electra.cse.Buffalo.EDU (electra.cse.Buffalo.EDU [128.205.32.2]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 528C443D1F for ; Sat, 7 Aug 2004 21:20:02 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from kensmith@cse.Buffalo.EDU) Received: from electra.cse.Buffalo.EDU (kensmith@localhost [127.0.0.1]) i77LK1TH015968; Sat, 7 Aug 2004 17:20:01 -0400 (EDT) Received: (from kensmith@localhost) by electra.cse.Buffalo.EDU (8.12.10/8.12.9/Submit) id i77LK1Lf015967; Sat, 7 Aug 2004 17:20:01 -0400 (EDT) Date: Sat, 7 Aug 2004 17:20:01 -0400 From: Ken Smith To: Thomas Moestl Message-ID: <20040807212001.GA15813@electra.cse.Buffalo.EDU> References: <20040807002846.GG19076@electra.cse.Buffalo.EDU> <20040807205004.GA3981@timesink.dyndns.org> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20040807205004.GA3981@timesink.dyndns.org> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.1i cc: Ken Smith cc: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Sun Gigaswift card X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 07 Aug 2004 21:20:02 -0000 On Sat, Aug 07, 2004 at 10:50:05PM +0200, Thomas Moestl wrote: > The ethernet interface in the Blade 100 is the ERI, which seems to > just be a 100 Mbps version of the "real" gigabit GEM with identical > programming interface (but we have no in-depth documentation on > either). Sorry, I guess I should have mentioned I tried a SunSwift PCI gigabit card in an E450 and it didn't work. :-) -- Ken Smith - From there to here, from here to | kensmith@cse.buffalo.edu there, funny things are everywhere. | - Theodore Geisel |
