In there you can choose to disable sendmail during the installation (among other things) and set sendmail_enable in /etc/rc.conf. Let me know if you can't find the option and I will check up on the real names used in sysinstall. --=20 Simon L. One significant new feature is the merging of the USB stack and drivers from 5.x. This should provide significantly better USB support from what previously existed in 4.x, and I ask everyone to test it out as much as possible in the BETA phase. The BETA phase will last for at least another 10 days and might include a BETA2 snapshot to address some sysinstall and boot floppy issues that we recently came across. We ask that everyone thoroughly test this out so that we can have a stable and successfull 4.10 release. I would also like to thank Ken Smith for his invaluable help in getting this released, and I would like to welcome Hiroki Sato to the release engineering team! It is a Sony Clié PEG-SJ22 running PalmOS 4.1. I'm trying to access it using the uvisor driver (1.7.2.9 2004/04/04) and coldsync (2.2.5 from ports) using a setup which works under Linux (Debian Sarge with 2.4 and 2.6 kernels) but, to be clear, never did with FreeBSD (STABLE). And I'm afraid it still doesn't with 4.10-BETA. It goes like this: first I tap Hotsync on the Clié, so that it attaches itself as a USB device, then either usbd takes over or I start coldsync manually. Here is an extract from /var/log/messages: Apr 11 21:42:51 krakatoa /kernel: ucom0: Palm, Inc. Palm Handheld, rev 1.00/1.00, addr 2 Apr 11 21:42:51 krakatoa /kernel: ucom0: Palm, Inc. And if I try to start coldsync before the HotSync, it exits right away with: krakatoa ~ % coldsync -v Error: Can't open "/dev/ucom0". open: Device not configured Error: Can't open connection. The /usr/local/etc/palms file seems correct, and my .coldsyncrc reads: listen serial { protocol: simple; device: /dev/ucom0; } pda "skrode" { snum: directory: /home/ware/.palm; username: "skrode"; userid: ; default; } This is the same file as with Linux (except "device: /dev/ttyUSB1;"), but I tried many combinations ("listen usb" instead of "listen serial", "protocol: net" instead of "protocol: simple", setting the speed...) and the end result is the same, although the error messages do change sometimes. More information on request. The pilot-xfer program has exactly the same behavior ("Please press the HotSync button now...") except that it doesn't exit when the Clié times out and detaches. This happens both with the GENERIC kernel and a customized one, either with "device ucom" and "device uvisor", or loading them as modules. This is all with last Friday's STABLE; I believe I had tried with 5.1 or 5.2 in January, without success, but I don't have a CURRENT machine at hand to check now. Should I try something else? Any idea to make it work? Thanks, Cedric Ware. Bytebench results for 4.10-BETA and 4.9-STABLE are very similar, for what that's worth. Among other things, this driver supports the Belkin USB PDA Adapter, which lets you plug old-fashioned 9-pin serial devices into USB ports via the ucom(4) driver. I'm using this locally to give a box more serial ports to hook up other machines' serial consoles with a fair amount of luck. It's probably not the cheapest adapter in the world, but it seems to work quite well with both -CURRENT and now -STABLE. If you have any problems as a result of the MFC (build, etc, for the driver), please let me know. More general USB questions are probably still best addressed to Julian Elischer . Thanks, needless to say, to Scottl Long , for writing this driver which required only trivial tweaking to get to work in 4.x. Unfortunately they still seem to be present. If I have a kernel configured with SMP options and I enable HTT then I see random errors in processes. These are not the normal "signal 11" things that I would associate with bad memory, but are odd occurrances such as the exit code from a process being wrong, or the exeutable created by a compile not running. Repeating the command will usually give the correct results. I had this issue originally with 4.9. I have not tested it with previous versions as I did not have an HTT processor when running older systems. The machine is a Dell Prescision 450 Workstation. The dmesg from a boot is below (with the CPU disabled) as is the output from mptable in case it helps anyone. I realise that other people are running with HTT quite happily though, and this doesnt bother me as I just build a ketnel with no SMP enabled. But as we were asked to test SMP in 4.10 I thought I should mention it. -pcf. Copyright (c) 1992-2003 The FreeBSD Project.
