This was inspired by the way I used to select the current line with my mouse pointer to make sure I didn't hit the wrong docs/XXXXX link. The
 formatted html output looks suboptimal to me and seems a bit
hard to use effectively, since I have to click, select and scroll too
much to pick the right PR to open (usually by middle-clicking on it's
number to load a new mozilla tab). So, I changed query-pr a bit and
the output of this hacked version can be seen at:

http://people.freebsd.org/~keramida/cgi/query-pr-summary.cgi?responsible=freebsd-docs

I shamelessly copied the style of CVSweb's output, but if you don't like
this we can always tweak it to our preference. What I'm aiming at is a
format that clearly separates in some visually obvious way every PR from
it's previous and next lines.

The changes I made to query-pr-summary.cgi are available at:

http://people.freebsd.org/~keramida/query-pr-html.patch

Does anyone like this better than what we have now, or do you absolutely
and mind-boggingly hate it?

Giorgos

Err, forget that URL. I copied the wrong one from my mozilla windows.
Use these instead for two working versions:

http://people.freebsd.org/~keramida/cgi/query-pr-summary.cgi?category=docs
http://people.freebsd.org/~keramida/cgi/query-pr-summary.cgi?responsible=keramida

I like it.

What I have found useful on portsmon is to provide a slight highlighting
on certain fields, such as 'unassigned PRs'. (That might be harder to
do with the -doc ones ...)

'state != open' might be another one.

(Visually, what I do is to put a very slight background in the table,
and override it to 'off' for the cells I want to highlight. This makes
the table stand out a little from the surrounding text IMHO. The level
of 'light-ness' would be even more than e.g. the yellow headers.)

Hello,

I've just started a website for the Portuguese FreeBSD users. The
website is at

http://www.freebsd-pt.org/

We welcome all portuguese speaking freebsd users that want to help in
creating more Portuguese documentation as well as HOW-TOs.

Best,

Hi

A proposal for FreeBSD news and/or suggested reading web pages:

The second edition of the french book "Cahier de l'admin BSD" has been
published.

Like the first edition, the book is about Unix system administration
with BSD. It is aimed at readers that know about computers, but not
nescessarily about UNIX. It covers UNIX basics, BSD installation,
various system administration tasks, TCP/IP networking, firewalls
setups, package systems, "classic" services such as web, DNS and
Internet mail, and disaster management.

The primary focus of the book is of course BSD, but whenever it is
possible, it tries to give the reader a broader view of how things works
on other UNIX systems (e.g. : System V and Linux, sometime MacOS X). The
idea is to give the reader a strong BSD knowledge, but also a good UNIX
culture.

Second edition includes additions about X server setup with XFree86,
printer manaagement (including content filters), VPN setups, and more
about anti-virus and anti-spam filering techniques.

The book outline:
1. UNIX and BSD
2. Where to use BSD
3. UNIX basics
4. BSD installation
5. UNIX system startup
6. User, groups and security
7. Configuring a Unix workstation
8. Basic Unix services
9. Network basics for the impatient
10. BSD as a firewall
11. Third party software and package systems
12. Classic services : web, DNS and Internet mail
13. Disaster management

ISBN: 2-212-11463-X

More information about the book, including two chapters downloads (PDF)
is available from the publisher's web site:
http://www.eyrolles.com/Informatique/Livre/9782212114638/

There is no plan yet for a translation in a language other than french.
Don't hesistate to contact me if you know a publisher interested into
making a translation of the book.

Salut,

I just updated the Handbook bibliography entry to match the 2nd edition
(it'll appear in few hours after the web build), you can see a rendered
version at
http://people.freebsd.org/~blackend/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/bibliography-adminguides.html

The update of the french Handbook will follow.

If you want your book to be mentionned on http://www.freebsd.org/publish.html
could you send me a short description, or what you'd like to see on this
page?

Marc

There was an horrible typo in the previous mail title. Mail sent to www@
is made available through a public archive, as far as I remeber. Is it
possible to s/Franch/French/ in that archive? That will cause the
message to match a google query about a french book covering FreeBSD...

After upgrading php4 to version 4-4.3.8_1 phpmyadmin doesn´t work anymore
Following error occures:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: preg_match() in /usr/local/www/phpMyAdmin/libraries/defines.lib.php on line 25

I´m not a php pro but I think it has something to do with the Version string.

// php version
if (!defined('PMA_PHP_INT_VERSION')) {
    if (!preg_match('@([0-9]{1,2}).([0-9]{1,2}).([0-9]{1,2})@', phpversion(), $match)) {
        $result = preg_match('@([0-9]{1,2}).([0-9]{1,2})@', phpversion(), $match);

It looks like that phpmyadmin is not able to get the version of php.

>How-To-Repeat:
Upgrade to php 4-4.3.8_1
It also occures with 5.2.1-RELEASE-p9.
>Fix:
I´m not a php pro but I think it has something to do with the Version string.

line 25 of phpMyAdmin/libraries/defines.lib.php

// php version

    if (!preg_match('@([0-9]{1,2}).([0-9]{1,2}).([0-9]{1,2})@', phpversion(), $match)) {
        $result = preg_match('@([0-9]{1,2}).([0-9]{1,2})@', phpversion(), $match);

   Hi,

   I would like to endorse the FreeBSD project and I'm hoping you can
   help me out. I would like to link from my own site at
   [1]www.computingworkshop.com to the [2]www.freebsd.org site and
   provide a logo to do this from. I'm looking for an icon style logo
   the size of an 'OK' or 'CANCEL' button. Do you have such a thing or
   can you suggest another alternative.

   Tom K.

It's definitely better than the old one. While Mark's suggestions may
be nice to have, I wouldn't hold up on committing this in the meantime -
maybe Mark can apply his improvements later ;-)
